Penn Basketball Fans No Longer Allowed to Be Spirited, Fun-Loving

You Suck! The University of Pennsylvania’s athletic department is apparently trying desperately to further sanitize the Quakers’ already lily-white basketball fans: Administrators have requested that the team’s pep band stop playing the ubiquitous sporting event song “Rock and Roll (Part 2)” — you know: Duhhh-nuh-nuh-nuh … HEY! — to keep the not-so-raucous crowds from adding “You suck!” to the Gary Glitter ditty.

“The song the way it is sung doesn’t cast Penn in a good light,” associate director of athletics Mary DiStanislao told the Daily Pennsylvanian. “We have fans of all ages — some who have been coming to the Palestra for years, some who are young and impressionable.”

And by no means should those young and impressionable fans be subjected to such disrespectful raunchiness. “You suck” is, of course, a gateway taunt to this.

Same thing happened at Georgetown. They brought it back for a few games this year, “you suck” came back with it, and it was again officially retired.
