Mayor Nutter Ain’t Touchin’ the Rendell Comments

Mayor Michael NutterSometimes it’s best to just keep your mouth shut. Right now, it seems Mayor Nutter wants to hold off on a formal response to Gov. Ed Rendell’s somewhat inappropriate comments to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about Barack Obama’s chances of winning the Pennsylvania primary.

When we called the Mayor’s press office today seeking comment, the woman answering the phone audibly groaned in an “uh-oh” sort of way. But Nutter communications director Doug Oliver gamely responded: “We didn’t hear it, we don’t know what context it was said … all I know is that the Mayor didn’t say it.”

He added that he didn’t think the Governor’s comments would taint the Mayor’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton in any way, given that both Nutter and the Governor stumped for her publicly: “We believe the voters will continue to evaluate the candidates and vote for the individual based on the value of their positions and nothing else.”

Oliver finished by saying that the mayor has no plans to further discuss the situation. As April 22nd gets closer, we’ll see if he changes his mind.

Mr. Rendell opened the door for Barack Obama to not only win the PA Primary, but to slam it shut once and for all on the Clintons.

Ed Rendell and Mayor Nutter are backing a losing candidate — so be it. Their voices DO NOT reflect the voters in this state, and quite frankly, I’m embarrassed for Mr. Nutter that he let Rendell’s comments slide.

Both of these men should be ashamed of themselves. Skin color and/or gender will not be the defining factor in this campaign, and its high time we all started looking at more important things, like the issues facing this state and this country.

I did not vote for Nutter. There is just something about him that just doesn’t sit well with me. And one of the things is that he let the schools open on 2/22, the worst day of the year so far. What was he thinking? Even Street would have closed the schools.

And… This is for Stephanie. I have lived in Pennsylvania for a short time. No, not Philadelphia. I mean Kutztown. I can guarantee you of one thing of which I have no doubt. He will not win Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is the most racist state in the USA. I speak from first hand knowledge. I am a person who has lived in the South. Pennsylvania is worse. They take their racism seriously. I hope Obama gets the other states. Because he does not have a chance in —- of winning Pennsylvania.
