Tales of a McNabb Snatching Are Dismissed
Shooting down an earlier report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that the Baltimore Ravens were thinking about putting together a substantial package to acquire Donovan McNabb’s quarterbacking services, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said the notion is preposterous.
Newsome said the team hasn’t had any talks about personnel yet this season and is still in the process of putting together a coaching staff. Essentially, he said, nothing is definitive, but a McNabb blockbuster seems more and more unlikely based on the way things finished for the Eagles last season.
Most of the speculation stemmed from the Ravens having hired former Eagles assistant coach John Harbaugh, but apart from the fact that Harbaugh and McNabb shared the same employer for a few years, that wouldn’t appear to be a factor at all. Nevertheless, just because Newsome says the story’s false doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen or hasn’t been discussed informally.
Whatever rocky patch the Eagles and McNabb suffered through early last year seems to be long gone, and the odds are that McNabb will return to the Eagles for 2008.
