McCrone quotes a source that said that Ramsey also plant to axe some special units, including the fictional-sounding S.I.T.E. [Metro]

BREAKING: Johnny Doc Considering Run for Fumo’s Seat

Johnny DocAccording to a political insider, business manager of IBEW Union Local 98 John Dougherty is in the process of petition-filing for a possible state Senate bid against serial ally/rival Vince Fumo.

The source says that Dougherty, a lifelong District 1 resident, has warmed to the idea after some careful thought and the urging of Democratic insiders. The way the race is shaping up, Dougherty will consider a calculated roundhouse swipe at a wobbly Fumo and his 30-year senatorial stronghold — possibly keeping Fumo from running just to win the primary, then backing out and handpicking his successor. End Quote: Anal Roving

Today’s Daily Examiner quip comes courtesy of the Daily Pennsylvanian, which announced that former Bush deputy chief of staff and “architect” of the White House Karl Rove would speak on campus on February 20th. Rove, not the most popular guy in America for, oh, numerous reasons, should be in for a spirited crowd that night:

Like Henry Kissinger last year ($70,000 honorarium), Penn honors someone whose misdeeds warrant a prison cell more than a high profile (and likely highly compensated) speaking gig.

Johnny Weir: The Drama Skates On

Johnny WeirCoatesville native and should-have-been January cover boy Johnny Weir was ROBBED of a national title last night at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Paul.

Weir beat rival Evan Lysacek in the short program, but Lysacek edged Weir out in the free skate (the one that matters), so although their overall scores were identical — by a hundredth of a point — Lysacek was awarded the title. This is the first tie at nationals under the new scoring system, and fuels the already-amped Weir/Lysacek rivalry. Do these curiously buzzworthy judging results smell not unlike the judging scandal of the Winter 2002 Olympics? I’m not speculating, I’m just putting it out there. I’m not saying, but I’m saying. Today Page Six reports a slimmer version of that account, simply stating that Booker and Alycia are planning to move back to Manhattan to search for new jobs. (more…)
