Ed Rendell’s “Gutless” Comment Irks Casino-Free Army
Yesterday, Gov. Ed Rendell lambasted Philadelphia’s City Council over its refusal to let two casinos start building. According to the Metro, Rendell called them a “City Council with no guts that can be extorted by community groups.”
Of course, the groups in question could be any “community” groups — you know, like Hugs for Puppies. But the implication is that Rendell was referring to the browbeating superheroes of Casino-Free Philadelphia. They, in turn, issued this statement via e-mail about the Guv:
He is resorting to name-calling and fluffing numbers to defend a policy that only benefits his rich donors. He claims thousands of jobs — but the only jobs assured are those for his friends. The longshoremen’s union, small businesses, and citizens have said more jobs will be lost and threatened. At stake is quality long-term planning which is antithetical to casinos versus plastering big boxes with a dose of wishful thinking.
We have previously asked Rendell for his research. As best as we can tell, all his numbers come directly from the casino lobbyists and their “research”.
Rendell: it’s time for you to show your cards. Instead of name-calling, let’s have an open, transparent debate.
The only chances of Rendell showing up to that kind of debate would be if he knew there were crab fries, a gaggle of ditzy broads, and Ray Didinger in attendance.
