So Far, No News Is Good News for Alycia’s Future
The 2008 Alycia Lane overload kicks off with a Daily News report on her post-NYPD-scuffle status at CBS 3. Sadly, the news is not extraordinary. The official word snatched by the Mighty Dan Gross is a hazy “nothing new to report” line from station reps.
In other Lane news, DN columnist Ronnie Polaneczky attempted to see whether using Alycia’s detestable “I’m a journalist!” logic could work to help her cut to the front of a grocery line. Also, PhillyBurbs’s Lou Sessinger popped out of his casket to weigh in on the Lane issue, going so far as to describe her as “foxy.”
Lane, who’s scheduled to return from her three-week “vacation” very soon, has what appears to be an uncertain future at the station. Now, the question is whether CBS 3 tries to salvage a shred of its already shaky credibility by booting her from her 11 p.m. co-anchor chair, or keeps her there as a ratings booster, capitalizing on an audience waiting for her to mention her ordeal or perhaps completely unravel on air. It’s a tough call.

So no news IS news? Lame…

I think it will be a slap in the face if Alycia is allowed to return back to her job. A slap in the face to all of us law abiding citzens, just proving that celebs, local celebs whatever they are or think they are, are above the law. Not to mention the station will be condoning such politically incorrect actions as the use of such derogatory and degrading language. I think she made her bed and should now have to lie in it as we all would if in her situation. Why should she get any special treatment………

Please Melanie
All you judgmental people it’s a little overkill at this point. She has NOT been convicted of anything. So if it was you - you shouldn’t be able to go back to your job even though you didn’t have your day in court?? Cut me a break. This overkill reporting of Alycia is beyond my understanding. Let it go people. Worry about important things…

We have only heard one side of the story so far. I would like to hear her version of events before I decide who to believe. Police are people too. The majority are honest, but this would not be the first time that a police officer arrested someone for just taking pictures of what might be considered police misconduct, or lied under oath.

Reality check — job description of a reporter is to be credible, reputable, ethical, and respectful along with all the attributes someone in ultimate customer service, if you will, should possess. This is the total package, not facade based. It should naturally be who these professionals are and not contrived. I personally was offended and harmed by Ms. Lane’s immoral antics. I used to watch the newscast and believed she was a trusted source with a vested interest in the community and residents. She has a fiduciary responsibility to viewers and that was obviously violated.
But let’s now just get back to the facts for those still in denial. She made bad and stupid decisions and became embroiled in something out of the ordinary. I believe in most police being honest and no reason has been given in this instance to think otherwise. She chose to involve herself into whatever was happening, misusing her professional credentials and uttering an epithet. How many of us common folks have found ourselves in that situation? When was the last time you called Gov. Rendell to explain your side of a innate personal scandal? How low are you willing to let your pubic and secular representatives sink?

I would rather reserve judgment until the photos she took and the testimony of the cab diver become public. If they corroborate the police version of events then Alycia should loose her job. If they corroborate Alycia’s then she should keep her job.

Just curious, Scott, is it really okay with you that she called Gov. Rendell? You haven’t lost respect for her poor judgment on that aspect alone?
I bet anything that is a deal breaker in her contract hidden in an ethical clause.

No I don’t think it’s OK, but I also don’t think it’s a firing offence maybe suspend her for that. You seem to expect more out of TV news people than I do. If their news stories are interesting, informative, and accurate I’m happy with their performance. If they get in trouble out side of work they should be treated like any other employee.
I haven’t followed her personal life closely until recently, but it seems to me that she wasn’t known for bad behavior until her marriage broke up. Now everyone seems to see her as the quintessential diva and wants her out the door, but I kind feel sorry for her.
If I were running the station I would not let her back without pre-condition. The first would be that she is not convicted of a felony. This would let her plea bargin to a lesser offence without the fear of losing her job. Second that she engage in out reach to the gay and lesbian community. Third and most importantly that she seek professional counseling. If she is unwilling to agree with those stipulations I would let her go.

If I recall correctly, Alycia has already sought the sage advise of Dr.Phil regarding her personal life. I guess it did not do her much good.

Thanks, Scott, I appreciate the info because I really do want to understand what the majority of the public’s expectation is.
The only other thing I would wonder about is if she is really worth a company putting their reputation and livelihood on the line. Those three requirements are very valid but even just individually they reflect the seriousness and gravity of what she in some extent or another way engaged in — illegal, immoral and unprofessional activity.

When Jimmy Johnson was head coach of the Cowboys he gathered his team together and told them the he would be completely constant. He would treat everyone of them differently. If Emmitt Smith dropped the ball in practice he would politely tell him to keep two hands on the ball. If a third string player dropped the ball in practice Jimmy would cut him from the team. Emmitt had earned that deference because of his past contributions to the team and because Jimmy knew what he was capable of doing.
No matter whose version of events you accept Alycia Lane has dropped the ball in a major way. If the police versions of events are substantially correct she should be fired. However if I read the facts that I have seen in the most favorable way for Alycia (which is the right thing to do in a country that believes in innocent until proven guilty) I come up with a scenario where she thought the police were being too rough with a friend of her’s. She got out of the car to take pictures. The police panicked and tried take her cell phone away simply because they were afraid of how the pictures would make them look, and Alycia accidentally hit (not punched) the officer. If that turns out to be closer to the truth when additional evidence is made public, such as the photos she toook (should give us an idea of how close she was to the first officer) and additional witness (like the cab driver), then the case for firing her is not so cut and dry.
If Alycia had just come to this city at the beginning of 2007 and created all this drama, I would say fire her the day after the accusations hit the paper. She’s not worth the trouble. However she is not a third string running back. Alycia came to Channel 3 news years ago when it was a third place news cast and was part of a team that help build it into a news cast that can constantly challenge for the number one spot in the city. Is she the only reason for their success? Certainly not. Is she the major reason for their success? Probably not. But, she was a vital part of the team and deserves some consideration for what she did in the past for this station and what she is capable of doing in the future if she can get her personal life straightened out.

Good riddance to Aleashya (Skank ! ) Lane
It’s about time this station FINALLY got rid of Skank.
She has been carrying on like trash for a long time
and it seems like she needs another visit with Dr
Dork (aka “Dr” Phil McGraw) as soon as he is finished
harassing Britney Spears.
In the 4 years Skank has been here, she been involved
in approx 4 negative news stories and she has broken
ZERO news stories.
I don’t know how someone working in such an influential
position, could do so little in a community. But I guess
when you get into this business for all the wrong reasons,
sometimes it ends like this.
I guess the Governor of PA can expect another frantic
phone call tonight.

CBS 3 announced moments ago that Alycia Lane has been
released from her contract effective immediately.
CBS 3 President and General Manager Michael Colleran
said in a statement, “After assessing the overall impact
of a series of incidents resulting from judgments she
has made, we have concluded that it would be impossible
for Alycia to continue to report the news as she,
herself, has become the focus of so many news stories.

The people that keep referring to the Dr Phil. Hello the station HAD her do that. How short the memories when we want them to be.
She didn’t do it and the gossip rags got a hold of it. So that was a NEWS piece that they wanted.
So this immoral behavior??? WHAT?
The scary thing is gossip can really hurt and ruin somebody.
NOBODY but Eisen’s wife and him saw the pics, so who knows, it was an angry wife that made the remarks…I don’t think that she should be judged as immoral for anything.
Some perhaps bad choices, maybe, but she will sue and find another good job.

ALYCIA LANE IS A WACKO. WACKO LANE In Miami just wanted rich men with large pockets cuz she was making no money at the time.
She still wants that but now men with power. She’s dated LArry mendte, Senator vince fumo and GOVERNATOR RENDELL and Prince albert of monaco. HEr photographers at channel 3 complained to station management that LANE had sexual relations with prince albert when LAne was on the job!

Funny how ALycia Lane used the dyke epithet since she was shcacking up with her news director susan schiller who is a bisexual. the two were having sleepovers at lane’s washington squaer apartment while Schiller went thru marital problems. Was Lane trying to cover up the fact that she has homosexual feelings?

KYW is a fu–ckng mess. As anyone who knows knows–Susan Schiller, Peter Dunn, Michael Colelran, Mike Archer, Cesar Aldama, Leslie Moonves needs to CLEAN HOUSE AND FIRE their fuckg asses. For god-s sakes, they’re all idiots, Alycia LAne, LArry, and the mumbo jumbo management that misses stories elft and right and tape recordds Channel 6 shows every single day at the behest of News Director Susan Schiller since she don’t know how to run a damn news room. The woman was late sending camera crews to the McGReevey scandal when it broke because–get this–she didn’t know it even happened until channel 2 in NYC called her and tipped her off and til Schiller saw the report on Channel 6. FU–ng Fools. God Bless CBS Idiots
