Smerconish: Alycia Lane F-bomb, Lesbian Slur Allegations Are Probably True
Bald-headed microphone fiend Michael Smerconish emerged from his Murdered by Mumia plug-fest to finally address the Alycia Lane controversy in his Daily News column this morning. Smerconish writes that his personal website received quite an uptick in traffic over the weekend thanks to a harmless photo showing him and Lane together. Interesting. But Smerconish also goes on to write that he’s convinced some of the allegations from that fateful Manhattan morning are most likely true:
But the more I think about what’s been reported, the worse it looks for the anchorwoman.
FIRST, I SUSPECT she knew she was dealing with police. It comes down to the iPhone. If Lane believed she was dealing with average New Yorkers, would she have pulled out the phone to record the incident? I doubt it.
I suspect her “reporter instinct” kicked in when someone in her party became involved with the police. The iPhone was her way of keeping the incident honest.
Second, I don’t know whether she struck the cop, but my gut tells me she did say what the police allege. Remember, the incident happened early Sunday morning. By Monday morning, it was front-page news, which to me suggests someone in New York knew she was a Philadelphia celebrity and called the press.
How would they know that?
Well, in the police version of the story, Alycia Lane told them.
Smerconish says Alycia’s a “nice” person, but also says that (surprise) hitting a cop is off limits, and that she’s in dire need of a celebrity rehab visit to help Philadelphia forget this. It should probably be something a bit stronger than Dr. Phil this time around.

I think Michael has it right. but, I gotta be honest here. I like her a lot better now. I LOVE feisty women. Granted, given her career and visibility, it was a monumentally stupid thing to do, but I still love it.
