Kids Today: Saad Saadi Is Missed

1193942112Penn’s Lackluster Halloween: If Amy Gutmann isn’t posing next to a kid dressed like a terrorist, the party’s apparently a bust. The students said there was neither a consistent theme nor a lot of pep, and Gutmann, who hosted the party again, chose not to be in costume this year. The big hit? The chocolate fondue fountain. Hopefully no Temple students used its remnants to apply black-face costumes. [Daily Pennsylvanian]

Were there flappers invited?: Underage Temple University students were raided by the LCB and campus police for a party at an apartment at 18th and Diamond. The police are calling it a “speak-easy bust,” which means the raid was probably executed by time-traveling officers from the Prohibition Era. Regardless, some 50 students will have to head to court and possibly face a $500 fine or 24 hours of community service. [Temple News]

Business prof takes weekends to chase silly rockstar dreams: A typically fluffy feature story about guitar playing Wildcat prof Michael Fiorenza takes an odd turn at the end of the first page: “At a performance a few years ago, a doctor in the crowd took notice of a lump on Fiorenza’s throat while he performed. Without delay, the doctor stopped the performance and took him to the hospital. The lump was discovered to be a tumor. That performance saved his life.” Wha? He’s fine, but, honestly, how close was this doctor sitting? Or how big was this lump? [Villanovan]

Obama gets Dragon vote: Barack Obama is the candidate of choice for students post-Drexel Debate. Hillary came in second, with Edwards and Biden tying for third. The rest of the candidates maintained their positions as the ones with absolutely no shot in hell at winning. [The Triangle]
