Coffee-Mug-Wielding Blogger Attacks Radio Station for Lack of Springsteen

Will BunchThe strangely bearded Will Bunch, proprietor of the Attytood blog at the Daily News, is calling out radio station 104.5 for its refusal to play Bruce Springsteen’s Magic album. Bunch suggests that since 104.5 is a Clear Channel Radio Station (which is pro-war, apparently), they’re holding The Boss’s liberal hippie music against him.

Says Bunch: It takes a lot to get the blood boiling after seven years of the Cheney/Bush administration, but Clear Channel — that war-and-Bush lovin’ media monopoly that dominates many markets around the nation and six here in Philly — has got me more worked up than anything in recent weeks. If you care about what’s been going in on this country — and happen to love Bruce Springsteen, as I do — then this should ensure that you never listen to Clear Channel ever again.

Feisty! Bunch credits the GOP-bashing Down With Tyranny blog for the revelation. He suggested that Springsteen fans boycott listening to all local Clear Channel Stations, and said he’s “about to take 104.5 off my presets” because he believes in “free expression.” Oh, Dad …

Let me offer two words of advice: satellite radio.

The Clear Channel stations are in the business of making money via ads. Clear Channel takes a cut of that money. As it applies its filters on what it will let you hear. Satellite radio is also in the business of making money. They make it by selling subscriptions. But they don’t filter what you hear, they just play it.

So, how do you want to spend you money?

Send Clear Channel a message they will understand. Switch to a satellite radio station, listen to “Magic”, and spend your money on “free airwaves” instead on buying something from an ad you heard on controlled radio.

I am as big a Bruce fan as any, and as disgusted with the Bush administration as a person can be… I hate to break it to you- check out the company that distributes Springsteen concert tickets. Yes, it’s CLEAR CHANNEL. He is in bed with the same company that won’t play his music!
