Main Line’s Musser Backing Seizure-Inducing Sports Site
Pete Musser’s Musser Group is backing the newly launched CollegeFanz.com, a web portal for all things college-athletics-related started by retired ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen. The Musser Group, LLC is listed along with The Phoenix Group and PA-Sports Ticker as “major partners included in creating the College Fanz experience.”
Musser had a notorious internet flameout in 2001 when he lost his Safeguard fortune, but has recently been on the rebound in his personal life and private equity life. Still, this type of acquisition has that 2001-era feel to it, as the site seems a bit thrown together, cartoonish and mishmashed. Actually, it looks like a site that was the brainchild of a bunch of old guys. But both Rasmussen and Musser have had past success, so maybe they know something everybody else doesn’t.
