Bob and Barbara’s Becomes Maxim-Worthy
Tit-happy fraternimag Maxim has just christened the legendary Bob and Barbara’s one of the “Best Dive Bars in America.” Owner Jack Prince found out about the somewhat significant achievement yesterday, but says he doesn’t want to make too big a deal out of it. If the mention — which will appear in the mag’s November issue — gets more people to stop by for $3 PBRs and three-piece jazz, great.
But Prince is quick to point out that even though Maxim calls B&B’s divey, he doesn’t: “It’s an energetic neighborhood bar,” he says.
This isn’t the first national magazine “award” B&B has received — they also garnered “best bar in Pennsylvania” status from not-so-manly men’s magazine Details four years ago. “But [Maxim] does hit our target audience more,” Prince says.
Of course, the question must be asked: Is there any worry about what Maxim’s hyper-hetero readership will think of the bar’s famous weekly drag shows?
“The drag shows have been part of the bar for 13 years — everyone that comes has a good time,” he says. “You don’t have to be a part of any specific demographic to enjoy the show. It’s a good time for all.”
