Vince Fumo Begs Philly Denizens to Come See His Huge Stacks of Paper

Fumo_letter.jpgRecent bizarre reach-outs to constituents from state Sen. Vince Fumo are making some in the city wonder if he’s trying to deflect attention away from his federal indictment scandal. Many in the area have received mail and multiple phone calls to let them know about “some of the services available” at both of his offices. And what are they, you ask?

The communiqué — on fancy senatorial equestrian letterhead — states that “Our offices are stocked with various state forms such as birth and death certificate applications, state income tax forms, PACE/PACENET forms, rent and property tax rebate applications …”

You get the idea — Fumo’s office is apparently a bureaucratic Staples. (Click on the image to read the whole letter.)

One political insider says that this is, in effect, one of the old tricks politicians use to keep in touch with their constituency — especially if their seat is up for the taking. Fumo’s staff is being especially aggressive on the phone, calling both house and cell phones of downtown residents in his district multiple times in the last month. If anything, at least it shows he’s spending taxpayer dollars on a crack telemarketing team.
