John Timoney’s Miami Blues

timoneyjpg.jpgFormer Philadelphia police commissioner John Timoney is not feeling as worshipped in Miami as he did here. His no-nonsense top-copping has, to put it mildly, rubbed pretty much every Miami police officer the wrong way.

More than 900 officers who make up the union will decide on September 4th whether they will cast a “no confidence” vote against Timoney and his deputy chief, Frank Fernandez. The allegations against Timoney include driving a Lexus hybrid sport-utility vehicle he didn’t pay for (it was given to him by a local auto dealership) and, according to the Miami Herald, a bizarre policy that prevents both uniformed and civilian employees from “associating with undesirable persons.”

One commenter named “city cop” spelled it out (though didn’t quite punctuate it) a little clearer in the comments section of the Herald website:

mr Timoney is the most abusive and corrupt chief in the history of miami and his deputy chief is just as bad as a storm trooper!!The stats are manipulated at compstat, just as in Broward and the good cops are sick of it! get them both out, now!!

Wonder if he misses Philly?
