AI Contestant Stands Up for Herself, Hurls Invective
Yesterday’s post about Warminster-based American Idol contestant Lindsay Pagano was, apparently, a bit misguided. Although the 21-year-old Pagano appears to have had a substantial enough career — consisting of, deep breath, a former record deal with Universal, music videos, a VH1 artist page, an appearance in “What’s New Scooby Doo?” (playing herself, naturally), and a few other things found in a simple Google search — to cause most people to question her “amateur” status for AI’s competition, she (and her angry father, and her friends) claim she’s 100 percent legit. Her unedited e-mail response, after the jump.
So sayeth Lindsay:
Dear A.J. Daulerio,
I’m not sure if I should address you as a reporter, since ”reporters” apparently gather the whole truth before writing and posting a story. Maybe I should give you the truth before you further ”expose” me to the public. I had a record contract when I was 13 years old. My record went nowhere and I was let go from my label 2 years later. Since then, I have returned to my normal lifestyle in PA. and have had nothing to do with the music business. I’m suprised you could even find my name anywhere to write your story. I have tried to make my way into the music business numerous times and have not found success anywhere. My confidence in my voice decreased dramatically after being shot down time after time. I started going to college and worked at a local retail store in Huntingdon Valley, PA. and after a couple years, decided that I really missed singing and wanted to do this again. Therefore, when I heard American Idol was coming to Philly, I figured I might give it a shot. I have not had any professional vocal training at all. I entered the Fox Philly Idol competiton just like everyone else and was selected based on my vocal talent alone. Regardless of what I’ve done in the past, my voice won that competition, which reassured me that maybe I do have a shot on American Idol. Who are you to tell me that I don’t? Your article ruined the only sense of hope for a shot in this business that has come my way in a long time. I expect an apology and a retraction after you check your sources again and realize that you printed an untrue story about little Lindsay Pagano. Little Lindsay Pagano went on that stage and sang, period. I won because of my talent, not my ‘’status”. I would like to thank you for the headache you’ve caused though. It only gives me fuel for my audition on Monday.
— Lindsay
SO THERE, apparently.
Also, Pagano wasn’t the only one given a “fast pass” — even the four people she destroyed in the Wildwood Fox pre-Idol smackdown or whatever will get to face Idol judges come Monday. However, it would appear, based on her talent AND experience, that Ms. Pagano has a good shot to go deep in this competition. Bonus points also go to Lindsay for her lack of self-absorption. (Who hasn’t Googled themselves? In FIVE years, no less.)
Plus, with all that Italian sass, it appears Simon Cowell will also have his hands full.

Sean Salisbury and Brian Baldinger’s pinky also question The Balls’ status as a “reporter.”

Mr. Daulerio
Thank You for clearing that up.

Well, I guess that is what passes for a retraction in this town.
Philly is famous in the rest of the country not for cheese steaks or the Philly “Sound”, but for being a city full of “Player Haters”, and clerly you are one. Why is that? You would think that with the murder rate and all the other things wrong in this city that “reporters” could try to find something more positive to write about. The good news is that someone from Philly has a real chance to win.

First off, I have to say bravo for Lindsay for standing up for herself. A true South Phila. Italian. People should really research their material before they print. Lindsay has no contract, agent or manager. Check the rules for American Idol and it clearly states that in black and white. Also, maybe you should google Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood and you’ll also find that they both had recorded CD’s before their American Idol stint. Way to go Lindsay. We are so proud of you!!!!! Your voice will speak for itself.

I saw this girl sing and she WILL be the next American Idol. The other contestants didn’t hold a candle to her when they performed live. She is beautiful, talented beyond belief and handled herself with grace & poise. Shame on you for printing this story!!! Go, Lindsay!!! Philly is one hundred percent behind you!!

I guess you stuck your foot in your mouth. you should never speak before you have the facts…. putting aside american idol and contracts, she has a beautiful voice and you cant take that away from her and as she said she won that contest fairly, she sent her video in (as you can see the video its home made) like every1 else and won. Our family has all the faith in the world in her and she deserves this. we are proud of her and back her 100% whatever she chooses to do in her life.. next time you can go to www.american idol.com and read the rules….and by the way simon will love her if you knew her by the way you dont, she is a very kind and thoughtful person and sometimes thinks of others before herself, and would have never done anything as crazy as what you call cheating .. she read the rules and qualified and took her shot , im sure if you could sing you would have done the same thing………p.s….get a life

I think that Lindsay needs to realize she was “famous”. AOL Commericals, Maybe It’s Me theme songs, Aaron Carter tour, Scooby Doo, Being on Nickolodeon, Magazines ( REEBOK)… She even recorded a duet with Paul McCartney. This is great stuff but i mean it’s time to give someone else a shot at the fame.

Lindsay Pagano is absolutely phenomonal!!!! Everyone needs to realize that Lindsay has an unbelievable voice. This is something that came natural to her and can not be taught. She has done small gigs in the past and now she is ready for the real thing. People need to stop reading into things just to bring her down. I now realize that this world will do anything to destroy someone that is great in something because they are jealous. She is extremely talented and beautiful and will get very far and most likely be the next American Idol. So, I ask every “hater” to go back and listen to her sing and realize that she is an amazing singer and will blow the judges away. Need I say more???? Love you Lindsay!!!!

I THINK IT IS DISGRACEFUL THE WAY YOU POUNCED ON THIS GIRL.SHE OBVIOUSLY HAS ENOUGH TALENT TO GET HER AS FAR AS SHE GOT. I GUESS YOU ARE NOT AS TALENTED AT YOUR JOB AS YOUR EDITORS HAD HOPED OR YOU WOULD HAVE PRINTED THE TRUE STORY. I DO BELIEVE THE NAME OF THE MAGAZINE IS “PHILLY MAG” AND WOULD THEREFORE ASSUME THAT AS A “SO CALLED REPORTER” YOU WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED THE VERY TALENTED YOUNG LADY. GEE I GUESS I WAS WRONG, AND LADY SHE IS. YOU HANDLED YOURSELF WITH STYLE AND GRACE LINDSAY, BRAVO!!!. I GUESS PHILLY WILL HAVE ONE MORE DAUGHTER TO CALL “STAR AFTER THE SEASON OF IDOL IS OVER”.
BEST OF LUCK LINDSAY I WILL BE VOTING FOR YOU
August 24th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
LINDSAY WON! Enough said. Good luck on Monday. We’ll be voting for you. Some people are jealous of her because they do not have a life. Don’t let that bring you down. Use it for motivation.
