Local dumpling shop, Humpty’s Dumplings, has just entered the big leagues. Rolling Stone named the Glenside-based dumpling emporium as the best thing they ate at Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.

Just one of the hundreds of food booths at the festival, the ranking came as a surprise. To secure their spot at the festival, Nikolaus Freedman, Humpty’s Dumplings mobile manager, said they survived multiple rounds of cuts and in the end the festival was excited to have them and the festival-goers were equally as welcoming.

“It took a minute for word of mouth to get out. And people were a little hesitant at first,” said Freedman. “But once they came, people just kept coming back.”

Alongside a few of their regular dumpling flavors,Humpty’s Dumplings brought four specials to the festival: Magic Mushroom (perfect for the Bonnaroo crowd), Peach Cobbler, Jalapeño Bacon Mac and Cheese and Nutella Banana Bread. No wonder Rolling Stone fell for them.

Now that Bonnaroo is over, Freeman said they are continuing to stay busy this summer. They have festivals and events almost every weekend. In the past they’ve popped up at local ones, but now they are starting to branch out to bigger venues too.

And in a month, be on the lookout for a Humpty’s Dumplings food truck hitting the streets. Freedman is hoping to get the truck on the road and into the city on weekdays (hint: University City keep a very close eye out for them).

And if you don’t catch them on the road, they will still be serving up their delicious dumplings from their Glenside store (no matter how famous they might become).
