Rendell: “Probably More Ugly Women in America Than Attractive Ones”

In denouncing Trump's misogynistic remarks, Rendell just said something sexist himself. What year is this again?

Ed Rendell has always been a reliable guy to go to when you need a memorable soundbite, but a new quote from Rendell — the man who presided over the city and state for eight years each — will truly go down in the record books.

The quote in question appears in a new article by Washington Post reporter David Weigel, who explores Donald Trump‘s popularity in “blue-leaning” suburbs by paying a visit to Doylestown, where Trump performed better than anyone would have ever expected in April’s Pennsylvania primary.

A variety of local citizens and politicians offer their two cents for Trump’s surprising popularity, including Philadelphia union leader John Dougherty, who points out that “there’s still… a little racism in the world,” ultimately declaring that the “novelty of Donald Trump will wear off…”

But it’s Rendell’s quote that really jumps off the page.

“Will he have some appeal to working-class Dems in Levittown or Bristol? Sure,” said Ed Rendell, the former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia mayor, who won landslides in the suburbs. “For every one he’ll lose 1½ , two Republican women. Trump’s comments like ‘You can’t be a 10 if you’re flat-chested,’ that’ll come back to haunt him. There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women. People take that stuff personally.”

Rendell, who is in Washington D.C. for Infrastructure Week, was not immediately available for comment.
