4 Home Design Trends That Are About to Be Huge

Jinous Kazemi is the woman with impeccable taste who’s running the show, and we picked her brain on the biggest home design trends that are about to blow up. (She ordered a showroom full of dusty pink and soft blue inventory months and months before Pantone ever named their colors of the year, so I’d take her word for it if I were you.)

Flowers and birds are having a major runway moment right now (see Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Gucci). Why do we care? Kazemi tells us,“Home trends reflect in a calmer way what’s happening in fashion.” The most apparent runway trends coming into the home manifest in fabrics; upholstery is your fashionable friend. Expect to see lush flowers and bold-colored birds splashed across everything from couches to curtains to kitchen towels.

Besides the flora and fauna mentioned above, natural elements are going to work their way into color schemes very soon. Next year will be all about deep emerald and strong eggplant hues, with lots of stone and wood elements worked into both foundational and decorative aspects of the room.

Of everything in my wardrobe, my leather jacket and crushed-velvet booties are the two things I wear the most. Home decor’s got some innovative ways to use velvet and leather percolating—and no, we aren’t just talking about another gigantic, cracked brown leather sofa. We mean real, buttery-soft leather that will bring a natural element to the room in a new way. We’re talking borderline-opulent couches completely covered in velvet. Leather throw pillows? Maybe. Velvet lampshades? Bring it on.

Stainless steel has been a kitchen trend about as long as skinny jeans have been clinging to our legs (or at least it feels like it). But Kazemi tells us, “Copper and gold in shiny finishes are replacing stainless steel.” It’s out with the cool, clinical, brushed-steel surfaces and in with the warm metals. We’re already seeing copper trickle in with the Moscow Mule hammered mug obsession, but we’re over here just waiting for a full-on gold refrigerator. Hell yeah.
