So who will be the next famous athlete to live in this modern-Colonial hybrid in Gladwyne?

We’re not saying that the next owner will definitely be a famous athlete, but two of the last three owners were. Phillies second baseman Chase Utley purchased this home, which was built in 1998, in 2013 for $2.325 million from its then-owner, who bought it in 2006 from retired 76ers star Allen Iverson for $2.85 million. Utley then gutted it and renovated it in a more contemporary style.

But Utley’s a Los Angeles Dodger now, so he really has no use for this magnificent Gladwyne abode. So, as the Los Angeles Times reported, he’s selling it.

The resulting home has some of the features of a center-hall Colonial, such as a two-story center entrance hall, lots of Palladian windows and stone trim on the brick exterior. But those huge Palladian windows have no panes, and the dining room leads into a huge open kitchen with all the latest appliances, an island with bar seating and a breakfast room with plenty of light from its large windows and French doors leading out onto the rear deck.

Upstairs, there’s a huge master bedroom suite with dual closets, sitting room and striking master bathroom with marble-tiled shower enclosure, plus three other bedrooms and a laundry room, each with its own private bath. Down below, there’s a huge open-plan space that combines game room, media room and exercise room, a wine cellar and tasting room, another bedroom with its own bath that would make a great in-law suite. Beyond the doors leading to the rear patio and yard is a brand-new Hamptons-style saltwater swimming pool with cabana and play structure.

All of this sits on two beautifully landscaped acres behind a gated entryway.
