Delaware State Police say a digital camera was found in the bathroom of restaurant — and was positioned in such a way that it could have recorded women using the toilet.

The camera was discovered on March 19th at the Moe’s Southwest Grill at the Midway Plaza, a strip mall in Wilmington. An employee notified cops around 9 that she had found a small digital camera in the bathroom. Police first confirmed the existence of the camera on Monday when Action News reported on the discovery.

Action News reported a female employee discovered the camera after becoming suspicious of comments made by a male coworker. “Sources who say they reviewed the memory card video were alarmed at what they found, describing the images as a disturbing invasion of privacy,” Channel 6 reported. “They estimated there could be more than 100 individual video clips of women using the restroom.”

“Moe’s Southwest Grill corporate is aware and has been in contact with the owner of this franchised location as the safety of our guests is our top priority,” Moe’s spokesperson Karlie Lahm said in a statement. “It is our understanding that the franchise owner is fully cooperating with authorities and their investigation.” The restaurant chain is based in Atlanta.

The Delaware State Police Major Crimes unit says it “is conducting numerous interviews and examining the physical evidence,” according to a Facebook post. It is not known how long the camera was inside the restaurant.

Cops are asking anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes unit at Troop 2, Glasgow, at 302-365-8567. Confidential tips can also be called in to 1-800-TIP-3333 or submitted online.
