Pickup Truck Smashed Into Commuter Jet at Philadelphia International Airport Monday

No one was on board the plane, but the driver of the truck was injured and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

An airport-owned pickup truck collided with an empty commuter aircraft at Philadelphia International Airport this afternoon, prompting emergency personnel to converge on the scene. The driver of the truck, a 62-year-old man who has yet to be identified, was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with injuries to his head and face but is in stable condition, according to Philadelphia police spokesman Sgt. Eric Gripp.

Gripp added that the vehicle also struck a motorized luggage carrier before getting partially wedged under the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the scene.

The plane, an Air Wisconsin CRJ 200 jet, was parked at gate F38 and had no passengers on board at the time of the crash, airport spokeswoman Diane Gerace said. The plane sustained damage to its left wing and body, Gripp said.
