You Can Buy Buzz Bissinger’s Designer Clothes on eBay

Three pieces once owned by the journalist — and admitted Gucci addict — are for sale on eBay. But be prepared to bust out your wallet.

Buzz Bissinger’s 2013 article in GQ, “My Gucci Addiction,” is one of my favorite personal essays in recent years. Maybe ever. It’s certainly my favorite personal essay on addiction, a type of article usually about alcohol and other drugs (or, maybe, gambling). It’s thoughtful and weird and funny and all the good things you like in a personal essay about someone’s own personal obsession. (Bissinger himself later called it “very flawed,” but whatever. I’m allowed to have my opinion on it, too.)

For those of you not familiar with the piece, it ends with Bissinger having spent $638,412.97 on high-end clothes, mostly Gucci. At the end of the article, Bissinger begins going to meetings for sex addiction. In late 2014, Bissinger consigned about three-quarters of his collection to a company called LuxeSwap, which calls itself “the preeminent destination for the worlds finest luxury goods.”

It’s been more than a year, but some of Bissinger’s former closet is still on eBay. There are three pieces on the site right now. Let’s check them out.

CELEBRITY BUZZ BISSINGER’S CUSTOM GUCCI GENUINE ASTRAKHAN PERSIAN LAMB FUR COAT

In the GQ article, Bissinger talks about getting Gucci to make him custom clothing. This is one of them. It might even be the one written about in the article:

The same with a coat made of Persian lamb’s wool that is probably the most spectacular piece of the collection. I want it, but I am not wearing the right clothes to get any feel for it. (It isn’t until I am back in Philadelphia that I buy it; it costs $22,500, a new Gucci record for me.)

You won’t be set back $22,500 for this coat, as it costs just $11,996 on eBay. I wish I got 50 percent of the purchase price of the old sneakers of mine I sell. Though, I guess something that’s on your feet doesn’t quite get the same value.

BUZZ BISSINGER’S LOEWE MADRID SUEDE LEATHER PASSEMENTERIE LASER CUT COAT 48 $12K

This coat doesn’t even look like it’s leather, so you know it’s high-end. It’s only $5,596.00, and was apparently originally $12,000. Yes, it looks more like a woman’s coat, but in his GQ story, Bissinger did write about how the American man is repressed in his looks:

If the clothing you wear makes you feel the way you want to feel, liberated and alive, then fucking wear it. The opposite, to repress yourself as I did for the first fifty-five years of my life, is the worst price of all to pay.

I agree! I do this with neon yellow and even pink sneakers, but, hey, however you like to.

Also for sale online is this piece from wowniceshirt.

* VERSACE * 2014 Buzz Bissinger Black Short Motorcycle Leather Jacket 40/Medium

I think it goes to show just what a fashion icon Buzz Bissinger became that this random leather jacket is being advertised as Buzz’s right in the headline. Not just that, but it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Buzz himself.

Unlike the other, more expensive jackets, this one costs just $653.15 and comes with free shipping. (It’s $12.50 on the four and five-figure coats.) If you’re interested in owning the clothing from a legendary personal essay, this is the most affordable one.

Meanwhile, Bissinger is working on Caitlyn Jenner’s memoir. “All I’m doing is expressing myself, and that should be celebrated, but it’s difficult,” he told Philadelphia magazine last month. “A lot of people have gone underground with their opinions because of the favorable publicity about Caitlyn, but I think a large number of people still find cross-dressing and gender-switching perverse and disgusting. Most of them now make their comments under disguised names, though. These are the Donald Trumpites, and there are a lot of them.”
