Eagles Cut Miles Austin

The Eagles have released wide receiver Miles Austin. Howard Eskin was the first to report the move on Twitter. Birds 24/7’s Tim McManus confirmed that report.

Austin was inactive in the Eagles’ 35-28 win over the Patriots after being active and used in the team’s first 11 games of the season.

Austin caught 13 passes on 31 targets for 224 yards and one touchdown in those 11 games. He had caught just one pass for 12 yards on seven targets in the three games leading up to this past Sunday.

The Eagles signed Austin to a 1-year, $2.3 million deal this offseason.

The move coincides with the Eagles’ signing and promotion of wide receiver Jonathan Krause to the active roster. Krause made his first appearance as an Eagle against the Patriots, and caught one pass for six yards.

Chip Kelly was lofty in his praise for Krause’s upside and work ethic, including in his justification of using Krause in the game against New England.

“Krause is just a guy that has shown up in practice every single day and we felt like we wanted to give him an opportunity to play,” Kelly said.

“We brought Jonathan Krause in here for a reason and we felt like he was a really good player. We brought him up for a reason, too. It wasn’t just to reward a guy, but when you watch him in practice and we see him as a staff, he can continue to do some really good things, and I think he had one good catch, but it’s really good when you have good competition.”
