To Do: Eat Cupcakes For Charity at Philabundance’s Cupcake Smash

Indulge for a cause.

Eat cupcakes, fight hunger. That’s the idea behind Philabundance’s Cupcake Smash, happening this Saturday at the Piazza at Schmidts.

Now, I tend to be of the mindset that cupcakes are always a good idea, but if you need a little more convincing, look at it this way: You get to indulge after a week of healthy eating and working out, and you get to help those in need get access to food that is fresh and nutritious. It’s a win-win situation.

The event, now in its fourth year, is a cupcake bake-off competition featuring both professional and amateur bakers. Proceeds go straight to Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, that provides healthy, nourishing food to people in need in the area.

Bakers are encouraged to use ingredients from the organization’s “high-priority item” list (see here), which includes food like mac and cheese, jelly, and canned green beans. So basically, you’re in for some crazy cupcakes.

But besides cupcake heaven, this year’s event will have DJs, celebrity judges, and “complimentary cocktails.” Yup, you heard me right: Cupcakes AND free drinks.

Tickets include entry, cupcake samples, and drinks. And if you’re nearby, you can hitch a ride for free with Uber (up to $20). You can get more info and buy tickets here.

$25 in advance, $30 day-of at the Piazza at Schmidts, 1050 North Hancock Street, Northern Liberties.
