FringeArts Scratch Night: FringeArts' Scratch night returns with a showcase of up-and-coming Philly artists who you can get to know while sipping on free beer. The lineup includes Scott Sheppard and Jennifer Kidwell of Groundswell Theatre Company, <fidget> co-director Megan Bridge, and the AntiGravity Theatre Project, and more. Oh, did I mention free beer? Monday, March 3, free, FringeArts, 140 North Columbus Boulevard.

FAT TUESDAY

Mardi Gras in Philly: Celebrate Fat Tuesday with a number of drink specials and NOLA favorites around town. Chris' Jazz Café has drink specials, bayou food and live music from the Hoppin' John Orchestra. Rex 1516 serves up classic New Orleans cocktails and Mardi Gras eats like King's cakes and the purple-and-gold iced cake equivalent of a Cracker Jack box (prize inside!) South Street comfort food pub The Twisted Tail is also hosting Fat Tuesday festivities, with Louisiana-brewed beer on tap, po'boys and music from zydeco musician Reverend Chris. Laissez les bon temps rouer! Or, "more beads!"

TUESDAY

Brazilian Carnaval Kick-Off Party: The obligatory "the weather may be cold, but these dances are hot!" intro. International House starts Carnaval off right with hip-shaking dance, floor-shaking music and food and drink aplenty. Philadelphia 24-four piece Brazillian band Phillybloco and special guests Worldtown provide the singularly Brazilian, pan-global riddims. A cash bar features Brazillian signature cocktails, and food is provided by Chima Brazillian Steakhouse. Tuesday, March 4, 6 p.m., $20, International House, 3701 Chestnut Street

THURSDAY

Gunnar Monta na's HYBERNATE: Montana's description of his upcoming performance and installation is notably bizarre. It's a winter wonderland burlesque with elements from The Lion the Witc h and the Wardrobe, Snow White and the Huntsmen, and The Notebook (?). There'll be jumping stilts, a snow bear, drag mannequins and a slipping slide (?!) How these rather disparate pieces come together into one performance is beyond me, but I guess that's why Montana is running the show. Thursday, March 6, 7 p.m., $15, The Latvian Society, 531 North 7th Street.
