Report: Maclin Eyes One-Year Deal

Jeremy Maclin wants to bet on himself. But apparently, the Eagles want a longer-term commitment.

That is according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who reports that Maclin is looking for a one-year deal from the team, but Howie Roseman and company would prefer a multi-year arrangement.

Maclin tore his ACL last summer. If he’s confident that he will put up big numbers in 2014, a one-year deal makes sense. He could improve his stock, become a free agent next offseason and then cash in.

On the other hand, Maclin has done all his rehab with the Eagles. The team knows how healthy he is and can get him for less guaranteed money this offseason.

The Eagles inked Riley Cooper to a five-year deal on Thursday, but Roseman didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing Maclin back as well.

“Jeremy’s a good player,” Roseman said. “Jeremy’s someone we drafted, we have a lot of respect for, obviously in this system, really high hopes for him coming into this year. Without getting into specifics on any player, he’s got a lot of good traits and certainly fits into the chemistry and what we’re trying to do.”

The Eagles have until March 11 to lock Maclin up. If they don’t do so by then, he’ll hit the open market.
