Believe it or not, we’re less than a month out from the new year. Am I the only one who feels like 2013 went by like THAT?! Seriously, time seems to fly faster and faster the older I get.

It’s always about this time of year, with visions of holiday trees and lights and gifts playing in my head, that I start to think about what I hope to accomplish in the coming year. I’ve always hated the word “resolution” so I prefer to think of it as an exercise in goal setting. Problem is, most of them don’t usually, er, stick.

It’s true: I’ve had helter-skelter success with these goals in the past. In fact, the only one I can say with confidence that has actually stuck was my goal several years ago to become a regular flosser. Let me tell you: My dentist has never been happier.

I’m not sure yet what I’ll set out to accomplish next year, but I’m open to ideas. If the flossing thing is any indicator, the smaller, habitual changes are the ones that seem to work for me, rather than the far-reaching, life-changing, lofty goals like, oh say, actually running that marathon I’ve always been meaning to train for. (Side note: How the heck do you people find the time to train for one of those things?! Like, I simply don’t have enough hours in my day to casually run 15 miles on a Wednesday.)

Take the poll below to share whether you’re even bothering with the whole New Year’s Resolution thing this year. If you do plan on setting a 2014 goal, share your ideas in the comments. You never know—you might just inspire someone else to take the dive.
