Free Agency Buzz: Sean Smith, Quin And Winston

In today’s Wake-Up Call, T-Mac provided the latest on Dashon Goldson and LaRon Landry.

In case you missed it from Monday night, the Eagles are also reportedly in the mix for Raiders defensive lineman Desmond Bryant.

Some other rumors and nuggets to round up:

* NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington says he ran into Sean Smith’s agent, and the three teams to watch are the Eagles, Chiefs and 49ers. The Dolphins’ cornerback has not been a consistently productive player, but he’s young (25) and has size (6-3). The question for the Birds will be price. They clearly need to find somebody to play cornerback, but Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly and company will have to determine Smith’s value. If the bidding gets beyond what they’re willing to spend, they could go in another direction. Click here for additional cornerback options.

* Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network said he’s hearing a lot of buzz about Texans safety Glover Quin going to the Lions. If the Eagles don’t land Goldson, Quin would potentially be an option. The 27-year-old made the switch from cornerback to safety before the 2011 season and has played well. As others have pointed out, though, Detroit is 23rd in cap space, so they will have to choose their spots in free agency.

* Right tackle Eric Winston has yet to choose a new team. Remember, he was released by the Chiefs, so he doesn’t have to wait until 4 p.m. to sign with another club. Winston, 29, met with the Chargers over the weekend, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

* Yesterday, Schefter said he did not expect Goldson to land in Philadelphia. But Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com doesn’t seem to agree. He is hearing that the Eagles “will be the team to pay Goldson what he wants, or close to it.”
