Bride-to-be Blogger Kristy: Focusing on Family During Wedding Planning

Kristy and her sister, Stacey, her matron of honor.

This past weekend had nothing to do with wedding planning. No decisions to make on the menu, the ceremony, the attire, the shoes—nothing, because this weekend was all about my sister, brother-in-law and their baby to be.

My mom and I threw my sister (my matron of honor) a baby shower to show our love and excitement for the arrival of their baby. It is a very exciting time for both of our families (ours and my brother-in-law’s) as we wait to welcome the little one. I can’t help but wonder: boy or girl, tall or short, runner or basketball player, and who will the baby most resemble?

Planning another shower was difficult to properly fit into my current schedule, but I made plenty of time for it because of its importance to me. My sister, Stacey, has already invested so much time into our wedding, mostly on my support team. She visited every wedding gown shop while I hunted for my gown, tried on endless bridesmaids dresses while we narrowed selections, and just recently accompanied my mom and I as my mom hunted for her dress for our wedding. It has been a huge help having her with me along the way, offering opinions, advice, and countless recommendations (from vendors to jewelry), though always doing so while respecting my own opinion.

It was a huge relief that her shower went amazingly well. A little less than 50 ladies attended last Saturday’s festivities. It gave me some reassurance that maybe our wedding day will go just as smoothly (fingers crossed). Everyone ate delicious food, enjoyed playing a few games (some at my sister’s expense), and Stacey opened endless amounts of presents for the little one, all while keeping everyone entertained and happy. (Our dessert table may have had something to do with that: about five dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies, five dozen cupcakes, and a cake large enough to feed everyone. What can I say? I like to bake!)

So this past weekend, it was great to host her family and friends in celebrating her growing family! Sometimes another event or celebration puts your Big Day into perspective, and my sister’s shower made me so excited for the future ahead.

Did you have another important event occur during your wedding planning that gave you some perspective on your Big Day?
