Pulse: Pursuits: Hot Tickets: November 2010

Stuff you can’t miss this month.

CONCERTS
Pink Floyd mastermind Roger Waters brings his critically acclaimed 30th anniversary production of The Wall to the Wells Fargo Center for three nights of crashing planes, laser shows, dazzling pyrotechnics and, of course, $253 tickets (11/8-9).

EXHIBITS
The Art Museum, with its Bosches, Eakinses and Picassos, looks a bit more like Kitchen Kapers this month with “Alessi: Ethical and Radical,” which features, yes, kitchenware as art. Alberto Alessi, head of the Italian kitchen accessories company and grandson of its founder, will accept the -Collab Design Excellence 2010 Award on the 20th, bringing with him 150 or so of the line’s more whimsical and sometimes downright silly teapots, paper-towel dispensers, spoons, and other contributions from the firm’s 89-year history. Look for distinctive items by Philippe Starck and Michael Graves, like the latter’s “Whistling Bird” Teakettle (1985). From November 21st.

STAGE
Putnam and Fonda
Philadelphia Theatre Company plays it safe with the endearing 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (from 11/12), while Theatre Exile lives up to its “Dependably Unpredictable” motto with That Pretty Pretty; or, the rape play, in which two vengeful strippers encounter Jane Fonda (from 11/11). It stars Charlotte Ford, whose Chicken was the Live Arts fave.

GEEK CONS
Calling all dweebs, nerds and dorks: The Philadelphia Science Fiction Society hosts PhilCon, should you be looking for some Trekkie paraphernalia or a first-edition Orson Scott Card (Crowne Plaza Cherry Hill, 11/19-21). And lovers of mystery and intrigue—and authors of both—will be at NoirCon (Society Hill Playhouse, 11/4-7).

COMEDY
Funny Girl(s)
Annoying D-Lister Kathy Griffin lets it rip at the Academy of Music (11/6), while normally potty-mouthed part-time Media resident Wanda Sykes will—presumably—keep it clean as she plays Miss Hannigan in the Media Theatre’s production of Annie (from 11/23).

DANCE
From Salsa to Swing
Like to watch? See champion ballroom dancers Burn the Floor at the Academy of Music (11/12-14). More of a doer? Get to the Painted Bride for its “Salsa Caliente!” dance party, and shake it (11/5).
