The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2016 NFL schedule continues this week as the team is set to play the Washington Redskins (6-5-1) on Sunday. The Eagles (5-7) are looking to put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Philadelphia’s playoff hopes have gone down the drain following the team’s recent slide. It was only a month ago that the Birds were very much alive at 5-4. Ever since beating the Falcons, however, the Eagles have really struggled.

Philadelphia’s defense hasn’t been able to buy a stop recently. The Eagles’ offense is predictably bad due to key injuries and a general lack of talent. To make matters worse, the effort of players has been drawn into question by the team’s own head coach: Doug Pederson.

On paper, it’s hard to feel good about the Eagles’ chances this week. Washington’s offense is really good; they lead the NFL in yards per game. Kirk Cousins and company have performed well against Philadelphia in recent seasons. The Eagles could really struggle to defend Washington’s passing attack this weekend. Philadelphia’s pass rush has failed to come up big lately.

The Eagles’ offense isn’t likely to pose a huge threat to Washington’s defense. The expected return of Jordan Matthews and Ryan Mathews might help to some extent, but it’s going to be hard for Philadelphia to match Washington’s offensive firepower. In order to have a chance in this game, the Eagles will need to get their run game back on track. Pederson can’t ask Carson Wentz to throw the ball 60 times like he did last Sunday.

Washington is favored to win this game, and for good reason. Maybe the Eagles will come out and play harder than anyone expects. Even if Philadelphia’s playoff odds don’t look good at this point, they can still try to win in order to keep Washington out of the post-season picture.
