The NFL regular season kicks off tonight as the Carolina Panthers visit the Denver Broncos in a rematch of Super Bowl 50. The game starts at 8:30 p.m. and can be found on NBC.

Both defenses project to be among the best in the league again, but while Cam Newton returns for Carolina, Denver has an unknown starting for them at quarterback. Trevor Siemian, a 2015 seventh-round pick out of Northwestern, beat out Mark Sanchez — who was cut and has since signed with the Cowboys — and 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the job.

In the debut of the Birds 24/7 weekly picks column, Brandon, Chris and Josh all picked the Panthers to win, as did the readers. However, both ESPN’s Football Power Index and FiveThirtyEight’s forecast give the Broncos a slight edge.

Feel free to jump in the comments below as the real football season is finally upon us.
