It sounds like the Eagles have themselves a new running back.

Per ESPN’s Adam SchefterDeMarco Murray is en route to Philadelphia and is “expected to sign” with the Birds. Schefter reports that the Cowboys know they’ve lost Murray and have already started to call about other running backs.

The deal is reportedly worth $42.5 million over five years with $21 million guaranteed.

Assuming this thing becomes official, the Eagles get the NFL’s leading rusher from a year ago. Murray carried 392 times for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. He averaged 4.7 YPC and also had 57 catches for 416 yards. Taking the playoffs into account, Murray totaled 436 carries.

There’s no doubt that when healthy, Murray is a talented, productive player. But there are certainly concerns.

One is the wear and tear that last season took on his body. He’s one of four players in the last 15 years who carried 390 times or more in a single season.

And injuries have been a concern for Murray going back to his college days at Oklahoma. In the NFL, he’s played all 16 games just once. On the flip side, he’s only missed two games in the past two seasons.

Murray turned 27 last month.

Terms of the deal have yet to be announced.

As for the Eagles’ RB situation as a whole, they’ve also got Chris Polk and Darren Sproles in the mix. Ryan Mathews had reportedly agreed to terms, but that signing has not been made official.

Much more to come.
