Injury Report: Ryans Questionable Vs. Giants

DeMeco Ryans (2)

Here is the injury report for Sunday night’s home game against the Giants:

OUT

C Jason Kelce (hernia), LB Mychal Kendricks (calf), RB Chris Polk (hamstring), WR Brad Smith (groin)

QUESTIONABLE

LB DeMeco Ryans (groin)

PROBABLE

LB Connor Barwin (knee), CB Brandon Boykin (hamstring), TE Trey Burton (achilles), CB Nolan Carroll (hamstring), WR Josh Huff (shoulder), T Matt Tobin (ankle)

The linebacker situation is really the one to watch. Kendricks will miss his fourth straight week of game action as he continues to recover from a calf strain. Ryans did not practice Wednesday and was a limited participant Thursday and Friday.

“Just trying to get back to it, just trying to get back into where I can go full swing,” Ryans said yesterday. “Certain movements don’t feel too good. When I’m effective, I’ll be out there.”

Casey Matthews and Emmanuel Acho would be the starting linebackers if Ryans can’t go. Matthews assumes he will be the one wearing the headset if Ryans is out.

Smith had surgery this week to address a “core muscle injury.” Chip Kelly said he will be out a couple weeks.  With Polk sidelined, Josh Huff is expected to return kicks while Burton will likely serve as the team’s third running back.

For the Giants, running back Rashad Jennings (knee) and linebacker Spencer Paysinger (hamstring) are out. Rookie running back Andre Williams is expected to get the bulk of the work in Jenning’s absence. Defensive end Robert Ayers (neck) and linebacker Jon Beason (foot/toe) are questionable. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle/hamstring) and punter Steve Weatherford (left ankle) are probable.
