Jackson: I’ve Never Been Part Of a Gang

DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson’s camp has released a statement on the wide receiver’s behalf.

Via ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

“First I would like to thank the Eagles organization, the Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia for my time in Philly. I would also like to thank coach Andy Reed [Reid] for bringing me in. Secondly, I would like to address the misleading and unfounded reports that my release has anything to do with any affiliation that has been speculated surrounding the company I keep off of the field. I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang. I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values. I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true . I look forward to working hard for my new team. God Bless.”

  • BirdGang

I wish this man all the best.

  • melodically

Best wishes to one of the best — if imperfect — receivers in Eagles history.

  • Bird of Prey

This is twilight zone like in the way it was done. But after Hernadez in NE, I can see how this can happen. The thing was he was never implicated in the crimes and the police described him as very cooperative. Again, twilight zone.

  • botto

wow he is a good writer..haha

  • TripSquadMonopoly

    Fired for speculation…what a joke

    • RIP illa

Happens all the time. What did you expect when your in a business that is heavily influenced by image. He did it to himself.

  • Ark87

guys…you do realize this story isn’t supposed to break until Tuesday right….or is april fools making like all the other Holidays and starting early?

  • TripSquadMonopoly

Chip did such a great job the offseasonn in free agency retaining players! Our team took a step back today offensively that may take another season to get back there. The defense WILL suffer when we draft WRs.

    • Tom w

Nah offense is going to be fine. Won’t miss a beat. And we were going to draft one or two wrs irregardless if we get djax or not

      • TripSquadMonopoly

Our #1 is coming off an ACL tear and we picked up a 31 year old backfield receiver. You don’t lose a playmaker that great and not miss a beat man Chip Kelly isn’t God.

        • George

false. he is, in fact, a god

        • Chip Kelly

ERRONEOUS. When it comes to operating this NFL team, I am god. I will bet you a cheesesteak with whiz we will be the top offense in the NFC once again.

  • Brent E. Sulecki

Deseans lying. he was in a gang. #BIRDGANG

    • BirdGang

haha Yessir. We are all part of that GANG.

    • Johnny Domino

Never birdgang enough for Chip apparently

  • Tom w

Damage control. Joel segal is a smart man.

    • Richard Colton

Doubt he misspelled Andy Reid’s name. This actually looks like Jackson wrote it.

  • KimbaFuzz

Never arrested, charged, or even suspected. But a report comes out literally 5 seconds after the Eagles have been dangling him as trade bait for weeks? Yeah. No. I don’t buy that at all. This feels like a smear campaign. I’ve never been a DJax fan. Never cared for his attitude. But to all of sudden make insinuate he’s a gang member? Cause he KNOWS a dude who was acquitted of murder?

Is everyone who knows Aaron Hernandez getting released too?

    • Ark87

doesn’t smell made up…smells like the Eagles knew for a while and were trying make it someone else’s problem. Everyone was confused why we suddenly wanted to get rid of him (including other teams). This story is about to drop, the gig is up, we go ahead and release him. Seems pretty straight forward.

    • Richard Colton

You’re suggesting the Eagles are somehow behind the NJ.com story?

    • Tom w

      You are in denial.

    • Tom w

Just the tip of the iceberg is that story. Eagles didn’t cut him based on that story they know a lot more than that. Much more to come

    • Scott J

You’ve already decided he’s innocent without waiting for all the info to come out.

    • RIP illa

That report puts the organization in a really bad and somewhat incompetent light. Had to let him go. He may be innocent in a court of law, but that’s way different from perception, and no company in the world wants to deal with a bad image if they can avoid it.

  • Explorer51
    • Tom w

Said that all along but I was told to keep quiet and get back in the bashing chip and Howie line.

    • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

And that’s sense been recanted. Nice try though.

  • Richard Colton

Just sucks. I was looking forward to another season of DeSean thriving in Chip’s offense. But I guess it had to be character, personality conflict and/or off the field stuff, because it was never about salary, on the field production, or scheme fit.

This sucks – we lost our best WR

    • Ark87

We’re definitely coming from the same place, couldn’t have summed it up better myself.

    • Andy124

Nah. Momah is 12 inches better.

    • Tom w

Best but replaceable production in this offense don’t get it twisted. His numbers had dropped three straight yrs before chip came and he performed much better w Vick over foles this past year. Really not all that upset except we were unable to get any compensarion

      • Weapon Y

Replaceable? Who’s going to replace him?

        • IAteLunchToday

Cooper obviously. Or maybe Maclin is ahead of Cooper. I’m not sure now that I think about it.

        • Tom w

Maclin, uptake in ertz, sproles in slot, rookie wr 1 like odb or cooks, rookie wr 2 lile moncrief latimer etx. Plug and play. This system isn’t predicated on one player. It’s based on matchups and taking advantage of defense. Not predicated on djax like lions offense on megatron. Maclin alone gets back atleast 75 percent of his production and throw in a better ertz sproles and a better wr3 like odb cooks or moncrief and we good to go.

          • morgan c

Look I like our offense too, and hated DJax as a person, but he is not getting replaced in terms of production. He was a very good receiver, and the best we had. It would take the best rookie season of all time for a FRP to come in and replace DJax’s production. Ertz may improve, and it will be great to have Maclin, but Cooper’s numbers will almost assuredly go down, and if Sproles gives us something, McCoy will give us less. And if we now must draft WR early, it means we don’t get the edge-rusher we so desperately need.

          • Chip Kelly

            Well put, Mr. Gamble.

        • Will

Help wanted sign just went up in the window at the FO..

        • RIP illa

He’s production’s gonna be replaced by “committee”, barring any one WR shows out this year.

          • ACViking

Committees work in the regular season.

            Stars shine in the post-season.

Not saying Jackson’s that kind of post-season star.

But committee work at WR won’t get it done in January . . . not without Tom Brady and the opposing team’s defensive signals in your pocket.

          • cliff henny

welcome the official start of Philadelphia Moneyballs. Kelly has come out and said his system is plug and play. I was bit shocked to even hear current Eagles use those exact words.

          • #7

There is no plug and play in the NFL. Not in my lifetime. It’s always been talent first and a great coach to get that talent to play as one.

    • Will

So much for Shifty Shady and Speedy was really looking forward to that….

  • K.

Honestly, many excellent players have been released and their teams survoved. I’d wait to see what the team does to replace his on-field numbers before bashing them. We’ll see what they do at the draft, andhow they adjust in-season.
At this point next year, we’ll be able to judge better whether they goofed or not. Before that, it’s a bit too early to REALLY KNOW how this will affect their record.

  • JosephR2225

Yeah, but that’s exactly what a gang member would say…

    • RIP illa

LOL. Actually, you’re not allowed to renounce your gang in any way, except in cases of going to jail…if “old school” rules are still being followed.

  • Will

Look DeSean took it to far plain and simple…DeSean chooses to have a certain culture in his life in his free time that is not compatible with the culture the Eagles are developing plain and simple…Zero Compensation says a lot….we do not want him on this football team!

Source: The Eagles Were Poking Around Quite a Bit About the Burglary at DeSean Jackson’s House

    Kyle Scott —
    March 28, 2014

A source – who proved to be very, very right – predicted earlier this
week that the reason the Eagles were considering cutting DeSean Jackson
had nothing to do with his attitude. The source said the Eagles
approached police recently and were asking a lot of questions about the
alleged burglary at Jackson’s house in January. There were a lot of red
flags, and the legitimacy of the robbery is (or was) being questioned. There were no signs of forced entry and Howard Eskin just reported that $100 was left on the counter.

It’s unclear what exactly happened. Insurance fraud and a gang related event
are two theories being thrown around. Whatever it was, this played a
part in the team’s decision to shop and eventually cut DeSean.

    • Tom w

      Yep. Sorry geagle

    • Will

Insurance fraud is no joking matter….this may be an ongoing investigation…

      • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

There was no police report signed no insurance claim filed.

THEN just as quickly as they false burglary reports came out…they were quickly recanted. Just part of a larger smear campaign.

  • EagleDuck

No one has said DeSean is “part of a gang” (at least I haven’t read that yet), his twitter feed clearly shows he associates with gang members, who incidentally have been investigated as murder perps.

4.4 speed and poor life choices? Oakland is probably having him docusign a contract as we read this.

    • GEAGLE

Doubt teams in Cali can touch him….Carolina coaches are interested! but I’m assuming he is a seahawk

      • EagleDuck

Hey, his friends could ‘stand their ground’ in Florida… Maybe Miami?

That comment was probably out of line. Might be some repercussions heading this way in 5…4…3…2

        • RIP illa

No repercussions and I get the joke, but unfortunately or not (either way it’s a real stupid F’n law), that law only favors minorities something like 1% of the time down there.

          • EagleDuck

(there’s really no appropriate response to that sad commentary, so here you go)

Well that’s not fair. Everyone should be able to shoot whomever they want, regardless of race, creed, religion, etc.

          • RIP illa

            LOL.

      • Adam G

Don’t know about the Seattle thing. Carroll does a ton of anti-gang charity work. Don’t think that’s the right message to send.

  • K.

The real issue isn’t that DJax is gone, it’s more than they didn’t even get a song for him…I think that’s the real shocker.
Liar, liar if you really thought he’d be on this team for long…

    • Andy124

didn’t even get a song for him

      Ahem. Diamonds On My Neck.

      • RIP illa

        Ok…a good song. LMAO

  • Fabrizio

we shouldve have restructured Desean to that Dez Bryant strict ass contract with 3 man security team. Made him lose money any time he got caught hanging with known gang members. Haven’t heard squat about Dez since they put him on it.

  • David

Suspected gang affiliation is weak tea. Perhaps this is just groundwork for a related actual bombshell; if not, this still makes little sense. I get that DJax is probably a constant irritant in the locker room, unreliable in meetings, etc., but every NFL team has these issues. Chip’s job is to figure out how to manage difficult personalities and minor off-field issues.
Anyone who argues that the Eagles are as good on the field is delusional. That doesn’t mean the offense is doomed. The offense should still be good, and possibly very good, but the WR corps just went from strong to poor (Maclin is a very good #2, but a lousy #1; Cooper’s a very good #3, but a lousy #2). The birds will have to spend a draft pick and Chip will have to coach everyone up.
This would make a lot more sense next offseason, when $$ will be a real issue (rather than something that everyone worries will be an issue next offseason), and when the Eagles will be better prepared to move on (a talented young WR with a year under his belt, a year to evaluate whether Maclin is 100% and capable of being a strong starter, etc.). Seems to be that unless much more serious stuff emerges the Eagles needed to just manage his personality as best as they could and enjoy his on field production for at least another year.

    • Jason

” but every NFL team has these issues. Chip’s job is to figure out how to manage difficult personalities and minor off-field issues. ”
Uh, no. Not every team has these issues. NE, GB, SF etc… They don’t have these problems. 2nd, Chip’s job is to figure out how to manage difficult personalities. That is exactly right, that is why in the words of Duck Dynasty “He Gone”

      • RIP illa

Really, NE had Hernandez and SF has Smith. Don’t know about GB and don’t care, but I’m pretty sure they got some skeletons too. I get your overall point, but if not every, then very very many teams have this problem

        • Jason

And NE got rid of Hernandez. Most of the quality organizations clean there own house. I’m not arguing they don’t have problems that arise. My point is they take care of them.

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

NE got rid of Hernandez when he was charged with murder.

NE drafted the guy when it was KNOWN that he was likely involved (not associated with (multiple) shootings in Florida.

          • RIP illa

“Uh, no. Not every team has these issues. NE, GB, SF etc… They don’t have these problems. 2nd, Chip’s job is to figure out how to manage difficult personalities.

Wasn’t that what you said??? And wasn’t my counterpoint, along with others, a direct and honest rebuttal??? So if now you wanna go and change stuff around then go be it. If your point was to say that they “take care of them” then just make that point without trying to invalidate another’s point.

      • David

Your examples prove my point. NE: Hernandez; GB: Darren Sharper; SF: Aldon Smith: these players all have issues MUCH more serious than anything we know about DeSean. As for Hernandez, his issues before we knew he was a murderer were much more serious than anything we know about Desean, and the Patriots kept him.

        • RIP illa

Ahh, forgot about Sharper. Good one!!!

  • RIP illa

I don’t know what was talked about in the last thread, but him being released based off the NJ.com report, is completely understandable and pretty much the right move. And this is coming from a big DJax supporter!!!
While he has not been labeled gang affiliated, which means that there is proof of funding and/or being involved in any criminal activity that is gang related. He still made the organization look bad. Perception can and does mean a hell of a lot, and not only did DJax leave the door open so that a negative one could be interpreted or viewed, but basically painted the picture his damn self.

The family/party/property name ownership/murder thing…I really can’t say anything about that, other than it only increases the negative image and impact coming from the story, regardless of the lack of involvement DJax had in the direct crime, as well as pretty much everything else. I could really care less that he was pulled over for DWB and popped for weed after his rookie season. Hasn’t been an issue since. We all knew about the gang signs and pretty much figured he was hanging with some people about that life. The article by ESP only confirms it. The real bad connection was the 1st point in the article labeled “First signs”, which he had no part in. But he still supported his friend, who was acquitted, and brought that mess straight to the Eagles doorstep just by being associated with that dude. right or wrong. Add to that, that the Eagles gave him a “Big” contract afterwards, and there you have an Organization, “looking stupid” and having a very negative image. Plus nobody in the league wants to have even the slightest possibility of having a Hernandez situation.

DJax did it to himself, by choosing to maintain relationships with people that stay surrounded in negativity and criminal activities. I have friends that I love to death, that have been criminals, from everything to drugs to felony assaults. And if they hadn’t or weren’t trying to move on from that life and move in a positive direction, then there’s now way in hell that I could allow myself to continue to stay around them…And I don’t have fame and fortune on the line. So no matter how much positive he tried to present and do, people will get fixated on the negative, if you allow that kind of negativity to remain a constant, in your life. That’s what Vick was saying, and probably told him numerous times before, when he gave out those interview quotes.

So goodbye DJax, wish you were here and gonna miss your talents. But you did it to yourself.

    • Andy124

      Nice post, rip.

      • RIP illa

        Thanx man

        • Adam G

Really appreciate that post. Good work.

          • RIP illa

Cool thanx. Just my thoughts and since I’m a big DJax defender. But if “you’re” wrong, “you’re” wrong. And DJax gave them all they needed. People wanna cry it was just about money, but how many employers are gonna sit there and keep an employee who publicly makes them look bad, to this extent??? It doesn’t have to be an either or. And I really can’t stress enough about the “Hernandez angle”, cuz that’s all outsiders are gonna go to to attack DJax and the Team, despite the differences. They’ll just keep throwing it up and pounding that talking point.

          • Adam G

I’ve read your other comments, and we’ve gotten into it a little, but its nice to see a commenter look at the whole situation. All these people saying he will be signed in a day. I wonder what will happen when they investigate all this stuff. I don’t think there will be teams climbing over each other to sign him.

    • Tom w

      Well said

    • Joe from Easton

      Couldn’t effing agree more.

    • DharmaBum

      Well said.

    • GiveMeABreak

What a joke. None of that is any reason to terminate the guy. All reasonable evidence is that this was about the $. He is the best wideout I can ever remember playing for the Eagles and we let him go and get nothing for it? He was let go because the FO misplayed their interest in trading him and no one would offer anything because they knew Eagles would do this.

      • RIP illa

“None of that is any reason to terminate the guy.”
        Um…ok!

        • Hiral

But it’s ok to use the N-word and not think Riley wasn’t using that word previously nor that he isn’t associated with people who use the word

          • RIP illa

When did I ever say that or say anything near??? DO you know me??? Were you present to when I was posting about Coop??? Do you even recall what I said and/or the points I agreed with??? Is being the racist the same as being a murder???
            Didn’t think so!
And I’m sure there’d be a lot more pressure on Coop if his incident happened after the Incognito thing. And I would expect him to be released also…How do you not account for timing and context??? So now that the League wants to take a hard line stance on the “N-word” or Nigger, I would hold the Eagles to the same standard as this incident. “Whatever’s fair”!!! Don’t act like I never had to sit and swallow the bull shit of racism before and don’t act like I’m the 1st…just one in the long line of many. And this game is played by our rules and not theirs!

      • Maggie

The best WR to play for the Eagles? Short memory.

    • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

      well said

Sorry, We got a racist. A woman beater. Formerly had a dog fighter and we release the guy that maybe possibly might have some questionable friends?

      - Who hasn’t been arrested, convicted, tired for anything?
      - The alleged murderer was found not guilty.
      - SIX years the kid has been here and all of a sudden…on the day he is released it comes out he has all these supposed “gang affiliateions”
      - Oh and he’s such a crip that he runs around in all red…a lot.

I expect better from you @ripilla:disqus

      • Dilwala_G

        Exactly

      • RIP illa

Ok, so you wanna do this for all the white people to see??? :-)
Let’s do it…No let’s not really. It’s Friday, I’m getting drunk mourning the loss, and it’s way too complicated for me to write out.

Stop, please stop, leaving out the impact that the Hernandez situation had on the league. I made all the points you made about DJax, except for the wearing red thing, and still stand by them. There’s a big difference between gang association v affiliation. If you’re a player who wants to walk that very slim tight rope between the two (although ill advised), then go right ahead, your choice, and if I like you, I’ll still support you. But when you start slipping and leaning toward affiliation then you’re definitely F’n up and get what you get at that point. Can’t defend you on that. And that’s exactly what DJax did.

I don’t think he’s a bad dude, or criminal mastermind. I just think (hope) he’s perpetrating that life, but not really bout it. Yet, when you bring two murders to your bosses door, by simple association…You’re F’n up!!! No if, ands, or buts about it! That’s not difficult to understand. Could you get away with that? If so, please hook me up with a job where you work.

Could the Eagles stand by him sure, but that would be going out on a extreme limb this day and age, just the same as they can let him go. I, nor you, nor anyone, can’t seriously be mad at that. It would make no sense for any anger. What they did was completely understandable. What they are now doing, with the statements post release, is a different story. He crossed a line, plain and simple! We can argue, whether, if, or how it could be avoided, but we can’t argue that. No matter the outcome or limit of involvement…a line was still crossed. Had he kept on that tight rope, I’d be right there with you in anger, if he was still released.

Coop and Shady didn’t bring murder into the equation!!!

So whether they want to use this as cover for other reasons…doesn’t matter. DJax did more than just play into their hands, as so many before him have done. That’s the way they get us. Been going on for awhile too. No more hanging on their part. Just give us enough rope to hang ourselves…so to speak. Ugh, said I wasn’t gonna get into it. So I’ll stop.

        • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

Yes Baby. We are going to air our dirty laundry in front of ALL of the white people;-)

I like you I do. We don’t always agree but you’re a cool guy who knows his football and isn’t full of hate and stupidity. A VERY big deal on a sports blog.

But let’s look at the facts shall we:

From the smoking gun NJ article:

“DeSean Jackson was nowhere near the scene of the crime when…” also “DeSean Jackson was not part of the case,” Jane Robison, a spokesman for the LA District Attorney’s Office, told NJ.com. “He was not a charged
defendant. He was not a witness.” And “Despite Jackson’s name having come up in connection with two gang-related murders involving Crips, Crosson said police have no hard evidence that Jackson is a member of
          the gang…”

          1. He was not charged

          2. He was not a witness

          3. No police evidence he was a gang banger

          4. No investigation

          5. He wasn’t arrested for anything

So in other words this is ALL speculation that Jackson (who is from So. Cal) maybe possibly knows is some friends with folk who were ACQUITTED of committing a crime.

NOT anything like Hernandez who was PERSONALLY linked to shootings/murder at UF. Apples and Oranges darling.

The other thing is this REEKS of a hack job so as to rile up those Philly fans…and you know of the ones I speak…who can say “Yeah we don’t need that thug on our team” YET will go to bat to defend a drunk who THREATENS VIOLENCE against all the “N*ggas in here.”

          Really?

          And you’re defending them?

Come on Baby. Don’t be that dude.

          • RIP illa

I understand, that he was not in anyway implicated and that the dude was acquitted. Yet, I do think that you still fail to realize and address, that you can’t bring this shit to your company.

Just cuz it’s not the same as Hernandez, doesn’t mean that there are not ripple effects, or that anyone team wants to be anywhere near or close to a situation like that.

And no I’m not defending them. However, this is what we live in. These are the rules that are set…I don’t need no yes man or Uncle Tom shit, but if you’re (meaning DJax) gonna rebel against them, then do it for something worthwhile. This, or rather that shit, doesn’t seem worthwhile. Especially when he, for now, has lost everything (which does not mean he can’t get it back). I went hard at all the people and media for trying to tear him down based on what I perceived as, pretty much racial undertones…ie, racism. I didn’t have to, nor attempt to throw it in their face, for a couple of reasons. Usually that allows them to shutdown the convo and go in complete defense mode and lie to themselves. And not everyone comes out with it, as blatant as some dude(s) on G.Cobb. So if they wanna play that game of skirting and dancing around the issue, then I’d play it with them and still make them look foolish.

I’ve already expressed my extreme displeasure in the manner of how this shit was executed!!! I can’t F’n stomach it…and the more that the team speaks, and the more that they dig and allow shit to come out…I will be right there condemning and blasting them for what they’re doing and seemingly are. But I try and address every issue separately, until it’s all complete. And for now, the issue of his release, is something that I can’t argue against. It’s well within their rights and reasoning to do so. You cannot, and I repeat, cannot sit here and go around putting no onus on DJax. I was taught better than that, and judging by your intelligence, I believe you were too. This particular issue is not a us vs them thing…yet. But it could get there and certainly does have a hint of it. But that’s not the issue established by his release, nor the issue I chose to address. I see it, you see it, but I think you’re jumping the gun. I’m taking it step by step…just look back at any post I have on the issue.

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

We are going to agree to disagree here.

Getting rid of a guy ’cause you don’t like his friends is fine IF the team has shown consistently that they care about “charterer” – scratch that it’s not fine…but you have something to hang your hat on.

BUT you don’t go sign a guy who made VIOLENT RACIAL threats where the “company” is made of 3/4 of the people your threatened to kill and then tell me ’cause a guy who has some shady friends needs to go.

Sorry. I’m looking at this not on whether a guy who grew up in So Cal has shady friends (come @ripilla:disqus } but the hypocrisy of the organization doing it.

Kelly was ADAMANT in retaining Cooper. He NEVER thought about releasing him. So you can offend 3/4 of the workforce and all is good. But not be accused, investigated, withness anything AND get cut?

            Sorry. I call bullsh*t.

          • RIP illa

I can agree on that point about Coop. And I do understand what you’re saying. I can understand the hypocrisy and the critical statements on or about Chip. But we already know how things go and play out. Doesn’t mean keep your head down and don’t speak out against it. But please don’t come at me for calling out what’s wrong is wrong. I’ll do it, and have done it for both sides of the issue, when it is there. And F Cooper…Just had to get that out…better.

Philly had devalued and trashed DJax enough over the years. I’m sad to see him go, even if I can understand it and even if that sadness comes from a multitude of reasons.
“The Game is Rigged”!!! Best line from the Wire. And there’s plenty of pitfalls and traps that are set.

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

“But please don’t come at me for calling out what’s wrong is wrong”

i wasn’t calling you out. I save that for that @sshats on this site…you know who they are..

I was calling bullsh*t on the Eagles and their hypocrisy. I understand what you’re saying..I just don’t agree for the reasons stated.

I gave Kelly a pass after the Coop situation. I didn’t like how that was handled. A real slap in the face to 3/4 of your workforce. This DJax mess just solidified my initial thoughts – the Good Ol Boy network is in full effect.

And I will never be okay (or understanding) about that.

          • Maggie

Oh please you two. RIP Illa, you are possibly right, except for one small detail. The NFL, up to and including the League offices, is FULL of black men. And NOT ONE OF THEM wants Desean. ABBaS: everything in the world is not about race. Grow up. Stop taking up space with drivelling on and on. Nobody else wanted DJax or they would have found a way to deal with his contract or trading something for him.

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

You grow up and stop taking up space with the baseless factless conjecture.

No one wanted to trade picks and pay a 10 mil dollar contract. No one would trade for a guy it was CLEAR was going to be released soon. And all those folk who didn’t want to TRADE for him…are now in the market for his services.

” FULL of black men” No it is not. black men primarily make up the on the field talent NOT the executive talent. Try again.

You’re right everything isn’t about race…but when you keep the racist and release the guy while smearing him with alleged gang affiliations it is.

          • RIP illa

Is racism the same in Canada as it is here? Please, this was our honest discussion about race and the situation. Sorry I can’t deny that race plays into everything about DJax and how he’s viewed, since he’s entered the pros. And you’re small detail is a bit off. There has been plenty of talk and a concerted effort to increase the number of black people in not only team’s offices, but the league office as well!!! And reports from the team, via Scheftie, have stated that they chose to not trade him…for whatever that’s worth. Please save your “Oh please”, until you lived it.

          • #7

They didn’t want to give anything up because teams knew he would be released. Cmon now Maggie

          • RIP illa

I saw that edit…haha…you know what I’m talking about! :-)

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

            That was a typo.

Do Freudian slips include typos too?

            *looks around*

            lol

        • therealpistolp

Can’t bring the hood to work… They don’t understand association vs affiliation…. Gotta leave it home cause it’s all the same to them…

          • #7

            You said it best

          • RIP illa

            Exactly.

      • Hiral

I agree with you completely and it’s sad because I really like chip Kelly but if doesn’t work out then he will see how fast the city turns on him. Oh and I hope Jeremy Maclins mouth doesn’t write checks his hands can’t cash. And we wonder why we have 000000 superbowls

        • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

And the numbers show that Maclin is MUCH better with Jackson on the field than not. Jackson is good either way.

And Jackson keeps the safeties from cheating up…hell he makes Cooper better…you saw how much Ds respect Cooper in the NO game…that’s to say not at all. NO wasn’t worried about him doing any damage.

Luckiliy we are in the NFC Least. So there is still a good chance we win the division…but playoffs…yeah..no.

        • #7

Maclin is SOFT and WEAK. He’s now the#1 WR (shivering). Alligator arms as our #1 WR because Chip Kelly is an arrogant punk. The PLAYERS MAKE THE SCEME WORK. He acts like he doesn’t need talent. The NFL is about to punch him in the mouth and the city of Philadelphia is known for turning on it’s coaches quickly.

He better mf’in win. Even with the drastic drop off that is coming from Foles. Foles will have it rough this season then you turn around and release his best WR and no compensation?

          Unbelievable

          • ryan pertl

Don’t be a stereotypical Philly sports fan. DJax will be missed but he’s not bigger than the team. I’m going to go against the grain and trust the coach that turned Nick Foles into a Pro Bowler on top of giving Shady, DJax, and Coop career years. Players didn’t just get a little bit better with his scheme — they became legitimately great. We were supposed to be rebuilding last season but ended the year with a playoff appearance and an all-time great Eagles offense. Wasn’t the league supposed to punch him in the mouth last season? How’d that go for them? Again, I was a huge Jackson fan but no one player is bigger than the team.

          • #7

Jackson never acted like he was bigger than the team. He’s guilty for the way he carried himself off the field and that’s it. Is it worth him being cut? No in my opinion. Why smear his reputation because of his associates and make themselves look good? This was their way out of his contract. Period.

    • therealpistolp

He did it to his self…. If he didn’t have a Instagram nobody would have a clue who he hang wit or what he rep

  • GEAGLE

This is why Desean is an idiot…no one believes that you are in a gang pal, that’s not even in question…the problem is you are a wannabe and it doesn’t look good. You may have done nothing wrong. But you gave the eagles an easy out that the public won’t crucify them for, basically giving the eagles an easy out to get your contract off the books..

You can’t have a rap label, and pretend that street cred isn’t important to you…maybe this will cause you to sell a few more records…if 10mil a year don’t make you the happiest most model employee possible, then you are just an idiot…now fans lose one of their fav players! and some lucky stacked team like Pete Carroll will exploit this situation! get a hungry! dialed in Desean for a cheap prove it deal. Thanks idiot

    • Will

Sad but well put spot on…

    • #7

      Another home run for Geagle

  • Will

    Wow….wonder how long he remains a free agent…? 4-5 mil a season if he’s lucky…

    • Ark87

I’m surprised he’s still on the market

    • RIP illa

Yeah, gonna be real interesting to see how this plays out for him during this offseason. Concessions are definitely gonna have to be made on his part, when negotiating a new contract.

  • GiveMeABreak

Scarlet letter from the management team for a guy who does not have this history. Question will be whether management labeled a guy this way in order to get out of a contract it did not want to pay. One thing for clear, Eagles just lost a big weapon.

  • Ark87

I kind of miss him already…

  • Will

Well now we go get a big tall WR with blazing speed in the draft, …I wonder who we get on our first pick?

    • cliff henny

      want my vote?

      • Will

yup might as well accept DeSean is long gone and look to the crapshoot of a draft deep at WR…I vote for Evans go up and land him….

        • ACViking

          At what price?

          • Will

Good question figures next year’s 1st and our 2nd this year to climb to say 10-15 if he’s still there…

          • cliff henny

wont take that. last yr sf moved to Dal 31-19 for a 3rd and mia moved to oak think 9-11 to 3 for 3rd. cant see using 2nd, need olb, but 3rd and should get them in 12-14 range

          • Will

So our 1st in 2015 and 2014 3rd put us 12-14 range saw him go alot at #10 spot in a lot of mocks…

          • Will

If we give up 2015 1st rd pick and our 3rd this year we still have the #22 pick this year for an OLB…and our 2nd rd #54 to trade back for picks…

          • cliff henny

maybe, i’m not great with those trade charts. know teams want picks this yr.

          • Will

yup…we be interesting for sure…I’m stunned if two days ago you told me we are gonna cut DeSean for nothing and sign Mark Sanchez I would fell out the chair laughing…

          • cliff henny

better than me, i’d have to go out in my front yard to get the chair

          • cliff henny

knowing Eagles, they’ll put a price on Evans, I cant see going much past 1st and 3rd, cause need that #54. don’t think that’ll get them into top10, he’ll need to drop to 12-14, guessing. seems to be the way they play the game now, what they did in free agency.

        • cliff henny

well, with the 10m Lurie’s saving this year, hopefully he spends 100k for new turf on practice field. couple more blown knees on that crap and Eagles are 8-8 at best

  • ACViking

    GEAGLE . . . you there?

Which team did DJax’s college coach, Tedford, join this off-season?

Do they need a WR? Do they have cap-room?

    • Will

      Tampa Bay I think…

      • ACViking

        W–

        Right on. Thx

    • UKEagle99

      Bucs and yes.

      • ACViking

        UKE
        Thx

  • cliff henny

man, Jax must have been toxic. not too much belly-aching coming out on twitter from teammates. or, Kelly has them all in-line.

    • ACViking

      CH:

I think “toxic” is a great word for this situation.

As far as that NJ.com story goes, two things.

One, the Eagles had a hand in it. Too much inside scoop there for the reporter to have unearthed — including locker-room info.

Two, if the Eagles wanted to stand by Jackson after the NJ.com story, the Birds could have done it. All they’d have to do is say something vague.

The story’s timing is a nice excuse for the release today. But the release was coming either way.

If anyone thinks the NJ.com story “caused” the release, I think they’re putting too much “trust” in Kelly.

      • RIP illa

They could of stood by him but why would they have? What organization is gonna stand by a guy with ties, no matter how loosely, to two murders?
Not saying that it’s not plausible for cover on part of the Eagles, but it’s some pretty damn good cover. No they were not blindsided by the article. I’m pretty sure they received some professional courtesy. So it could really go either way…cover or that they just didn’t want to look like they are condoning any of the implications/gang relations, by not releasing him and supporting him.

        • Will

The reporter could of said I’m not sitting on this any longer too…any ways he is not an Eagle anymore…

        • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

          Right.

So teams have never stood by those associate with murderers (Ravens) and Rapists (Indy, Steelers, Green Bay)…that NEVER happens?

          • TimX

I think the Hernandez things changed the Leagues mind.

          • RIP illa

Yup. Easy for her to take her stance when she leaves that out of the equation.

      • cliff henny

Elliot shore might have been sitting on that article for months too, wasn’t anything new. way Eagles allowed slow leak smear campaign starting with kempski, who’s funny, but certainly not Bernstein. then we just got a continuous slow trickle of bad news from the media who generally get nothing out of NovaKremlin. feels way too convenient that NJ article came out as jax is getting release.
        ,
agree with sentiments below, think eagles were searching for an excuse, and Jax poor choices served one up on a platter so they didn’t have to pay 10m.

        • RIP illa

Yeah, that’s the part that I don’t like. The painfully slow leak smear campaign. I would think that they could have been straight forward with whatever team(s) and still traded him, rather than sabotaging and killing his value even further. Yeah they would have taken a little of a loss, but it would be better than just releasing him. I really think a team, who he was traded to, could have handled the release of the article. Or I think it’s at least possible.

          • cliff henny

for a FO that gives us nothing, ever, gonzalez mosher and kempski are breaking news, mean com’om.

          • RIP illa

Said it before, say it again…I think they botched this whole thing so badly. But now the focus is shifted towards DJax and gangs, so I guess the FO comes out clean.

          • cliff henny

            Howie ‘andy dufraine’ roseman

          • #7

I’m sure you’ll disagree and I’ve read most of your comments, but this is a smear campaign IMO. The organization or any other job always want to appear in the best light. Just release the dude instead of stringing us along and come out that he’s a supposed gang member the day he gets released.

That’s bs and they botched this big time

          • RIP illa

Well I’m taking a wait and see approach and I can definitely see it leaning toward being a smear campaign. There’s already some hints being dropped. Hopefully they don’t do that, cuz I don’t want to be any more mad than I already am. I agree, I don’t like the way they strung us along and how they leaked a little hear and a little there until they finally got there chance to make their move and dump him, after release of the article. But release itself, I can’t really argue against. I also don’t like the BS about not wanting to trade him to another team. So we will see how far they take it. As of now, they seem content to let the media do their dirty work. So just cuz I’m not flipping out and condemning them, doesn’t mean that I’m blind to what’s going on or the game they’re playing.

          • #7

I hear you on that. And you’re absolutely right about #10 taking things too far with his associates. You and BBaS had a nice dialogue going there.

          • Adam G

There are reports they actively chose not to trade him because of the info they knew.

          • RIP illa

Haven’t seen them, need link(s) please.

          • Adam G

ESPN reporting it, Peter King, its all over.

          • djack10

            cant find it. help.

          • RIP illa

That’s some Bull shit right there!!! Straight Bull shit!

      • Kev_H

Kelly’s the coach. He was hired to turn an underachieving, last place team into a champion. He doesn’t need to justify or bake up reasons for his moves toward that end. He wasn’t hired to coddle Reid’s problem children.

      • Maggie

Whatever the “cause”, the team would not release any player, out of the blue, 40 minutes after a story was made public. Forty minutes. That’s hardly time to text “Let’s call the whole thing off. Forget trying to trade. Nobody else wants him.”

    • Will

The player’s know DJax and the real deal AR loved him…Not so sure DJax is Chip’s ideal at WR….well everyone wanted a tall, fast, big bodied Red Zone threat at WR so I’d expect the Eagles go get one…

    • GiveMeABreak

Or, Kelly won’t stand up to FO when they’re doing something idiotic. I would like anyone to find a example of a team doing something like this with perhaps their best player.

  • Will

The FO firmly believes they did the next right thing by not taking any compensation for DeSean Jackson and just release him….

    • RIP illa

That sounds like complete BS. What would they take compensation away for??? Is this a quote or what?

      • Will

Reports are they did not want to trade him with this baggage…

        • RIP illa

That’s so BS. I get that they wanted to and did release him because of this, but no need to ham it up. Big difference in not wanting to trade him v being able to trade him. If you can trade him while being totally candid…then F’n do so. That’s doing what’s best for the team. Let other teams, which you’re trying to trade him to tell you no.

  • ChaliWil

    Terrell Owens.

    • http://www.idonthaveawebsite.com theedevilsadvocate

my giants friend said sign plax lol i said id rather have TO funny…

  • Weapon Y

This is a slap in the face to Eagles fans who want a competent defense. Now the Eagles have to get a starting wide receiver, and with Chip in charge, do you really think he’s going to take a defensive player over a receiver? Hell no. Our secondary is going to get toasted and pass rush will be weak because of this move. Thanks for nothing, Chip.

    • TimX

We dont know the whole story. The league security may have told them something and the Eagles didnt want to risk it with a guy they made a 12.million a year commitment to. Maybe DeSean will grow up if he gets a second chance.

    • Maggie

Wow. You have an amazing ability to foresee the future!

      • Weapon Y

So no one is ever allowed to predict anything? Thanks for letting me know. I missed the memo!

  • TimX

After the Hernandez thing, the NFL security is checking these associations out seriously. If he gets a second chance, I hope he takes it. The NFL isnt messing around anymore. Good.

  • LeftyRules

Eagles just got worse. The eagles just got rid of a guy who has never been arrested or failed a drug test “on character grounds”? The real reason will come out over time but it sure looks like Jeffy did not want to pay him $10 million. With the possible exception of Mike Quick, DJax was best receiver the Eagles have ever had and we cut him? Maybe the Birds did not conceal their intentions to get rid of him and other teams saw chance to get DJax without compensation and with ability to walk away from $10 million. Let’s see where he signs.

  • Bobby

Sad to see him go, but honestly not really. Never quite turned in the season I thought he was capable of. The man has talent through the roof, but no heart for the game. Passionate but at the wrong time. DJAX I’m mad at you for this! Could have been a beautiful thing, you and Philly! I’ll still root for him when he’s not playing my birds. Bird Gang! 4life

  • Weapon Y

The real question is which team did we just give a competitive advantage by letting them take DeSean?
