Eagles Release DeSean Jackson

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Eagles announced today that they have released wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

The team has not released comment from owner Jeffrey Lurie, GM Howie Roseman or head coach Chip Kelly and is not expected to at this time.

The move came within 40 minutes of an NJ.com report that detailed Jackson's connection with Los Angeles-area gang members.

The Eagles drafted Jackson, 27, back in 2008. He made the Pro Bowl three times in six years and put up career-best numbers in several different categories in 2013, catching 82 balls for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. But Jackson's name surfaced in trade rumors earlier this offseason.

All along, it seemed like there might be some kind of smoking gun involved. The Eagles have had concerns about Jackson's fit in the locker room and his off-the-field interests. The team had been discussing trading him since the end of last season, but when it learned of the NJ.com report, it decided releasing Jackson was the best option.

Per NJ.com, Jackson was associated with gang member Theron Shakir. Shakir was charged, but then acquitted of a gang-related murder back in 2010:

Acting on unspecified information that Jackson might have knowledge of Shakir's activities on the night of Watson's murder, LAPD detective Eric Crosson said he interviewed Jackson on the phone in late 2011. Crosson wouldn't reveal details of that conversation, but he described Jackson as "cooperative at the time."

Crosson also told NJ.com that he reached out to the Eagles by phone in early 2011 -- even before he interviewed Jackson -- as a courtesy to alert them to Jackson’s connection to an alleged killer. He never received a response from the team, he said.

In 2012, Jackson's name came up in another gang-related murder in Los Angeles:

This time, Jackson's name surfaced as part of an investigation into a 2012 gang-related murder that occurred outside a South Los Angeles business where a party had taken place. The building was owned or leased by a member of Jackson's family, police said.

During a search of the building, Crosson told NJ.com investigators found several documents belonging to Jackson, including a car title, a gun permit issued in New Jersey and credit-card receipts.

Jackson was never considered a suspect in either crime, police told NJ.com.

Earlier this week at the owners' meetings in Orlando, Fla., Roseman declined to take any questions about Jackson. And Lurie as well.

Kelly addressed questions, saying he liked Jackson, but left the door wide-open for a possible trade or release. Several of Jackson's teammates spoke yesterday about his standing with the team.

According to OverTheCap.com, Jackson's release leaves the Eagles with $6.25 million in dead money.

From a football perspective, the move leaves the team thin at wide receiver with Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper as the projected starters.

Much more to come.

  • John J. King

    I stand corrected! Wow.

  • EaglesFanInPhx

    wow.. no compensation.

    • scarolina1

Who will give up a draft pick for someone that may be arrested????

      • EaglesFanInPhx

nobody would.. i know.. just sucks that’s all.

        • scarolina1

I agree, no compensation really hurts.

  • BirdGang

WTF. man i swear this week has been really bad for Eagles Fan. First we sign Sanchez now we let go of our best WR.

    • borntosuffer

Appropriate name for commenting on this post

      • James Hathaway

        Upvote!

      • BirdGang

lol people crack me up. Now yall want nothing to do with him??? But when he was posting big numbers for us i bet yall were cheering for him.

        • borntosuffer

Just thought your name was appropriate. I am going to miss him on the field. But, that’s the case with most athletes – you don’t know much about them except their athletic performance until something happens. It’s a bit hard to argue with cutting a guy who is associated with gang members – other than Spanky’s gang and your BirdGang – which is not a real gang, right?

          • BirdGang

lol. Na not you. I was talking about some of the other posts. But I dont get it…has he ever been in any trouble? Ever been arrested?

          • James Hathaway
          • BirdGang

If that is the same article i read before…I will ask this question has he been in trouble?

          • borntosuffer

Yea, it’s just crazy. I am having trouble digesting the whole thing. Just crazy. Wow.

          • Jerry Pomroy

Yes. Read the link to the NJ.com story. He was arrested in 2009 for possession of marijuana, but ended up pleading guilty to disturbing the peace.

The part you aren’t getting is that not only is he hanging with known gang members and been linked for questioning to two murder cases, but he’s using public social media and the NFL & it’s networks to showcase and promote his gang affiliations.

            GOOD RIDDANCE!

          • BirdGang

Weed? Weed? Ey people this man is talking about weed. He said he got arrested in 2009 for weed. hahahahaha are you kidding me. Do you not see the horrible things going on in this world and you are talking about weed.

          • Eagles1018

            Wow. Just wow…..

          • BirdGang

Hey should i change my name from BirdGang to something else? I dont want to get removed from this site. :(

          • Andy124

Yea, but BirdNotAGangMember doesn’t have much of a ring to it.

        • James Hathaway

I was always very conflicted about Desean. I couldn’t stand him as a person but I liked him as a player. He needs a serious attitude adjustment and needs to reevaluate his life choices. Not the kind of player I want on my team.

  • K

    W-O-W…
I understand the whole gang thing but football-wise, this is B-I-G.

  • James Hathaway

I want nothing to do with this guy. Maclin needs to come through for us, big time. Going to be tough to replace last year’s production, but I want absolutely NOTHING to do with him being on our team after reading that report. Never quite liked the guy to begin with. Hated his attitude, hated his Me-First approach, flipping the ball before scoring, quitting without a contract, etc.

It’s the Maclin show on offense this year… Chip is either selling the fans on him, or is really in love with his skill set. It will be interesting…

  • George

If he really was part of a gang, then He NEEDED to go and I applaud this move. If not, WTF?!

  • Uncle Wonder

SMH…not sure what else to say

  • Tom W

Amazing Philly sports media and media in general completely blows another story and misses everything that was publicly available

  • Will

Knew that Gang affiliation was why they wanted to dump him…still wow…Character has zero tolerance with the birds have to support the FO on this one…100% gangs are bad news…

    • Tom W

      Nice call btw

      • Will

Thanks was hoping DeSean would take the hint and change who he hangs with…Well the Eagles cutting Chris Carter turned his life around maybe DeSean will look at who he is hanging with and make changes…

        • Ark87

Vick knew exactly what was going on in hind sight….man

          • DharmaBum

Yeah, you’d have to think that. The fact that he was there for that rapper contest video — as a judge, no less — tells me that he knows exactly how connected DeSean is to the gangs.

          • Ark87

Vick and Jackson have always been tight. I thought now that Vick is a Jet, I thought he would be full backing for Desean…goes on air talks about learning from this, etc…like what’s he talkin about?

            ….oh

          • #7

LOL you kind of have a point though…

          • Joe from Easton

            Yea. amen.

          • KimbaFuzz

Wait so being a judge at a “rapper contest” makes you aware of gang connections? Because rap contest = gang affiliations?

          • DharmaBum

            You’re dense, that’s all.

          • Maggie

            Sometimes.

          • #7

Your picture says it all lol. Not the brightest light on the street lol. Cut because he judged a rap contest lol. (tears rolling from my eyes)

          • DharmaBum

Have you seen your picture lately?

          • #7

            Legendary avatar on here

          • Richard Colton

            no wine glass, but true.

          • #7

            LOL all good bro

          • Jimmy Foles

Go root for the Jets already and F off ya ape!

          • #7

            Ape eh??

        • Eagles_Nut

It’s the only way for him. Unfortunately, his statement flatly denies ANY gang affiliation, basically thumbing his nose at the known facts.
This story was just what the Eagles needed. Now they can release him without any doubt as to why. On the plus side, the rest of the league also knows the score, which will weigh heavily in anyone’s decision whether to pick him up or NOT.
Whether he’s a member or a wannabe is irrelevant. He’s way too close to the Crips, and ADVERTISES it! C’mon, DeSean, flashing their sign during a live NFL game??! Even you should be able to see the stupidity in that!

          • #7

What sign is he flashing?? I see all kinds of players doing it. What gang sign is he throwing up man since you seem to know

          • Johnny Domino

Take two and hit to left, and the steal is off.

    • LookinAtMyGucci

Yeah, this certainly isn’t a shocker. But, it wasn’t the ONLY reason. A big one, but not the only.

      • Mr. Magee

        what are the other reasons?

        • LookinAtMyGucci

His attitude/commitment. His actual relationship with Chip, as opposed to what Chip had to say to help trade valued. How Chip thinks DJs attitude would affect younger players….I think Kelce’s tweet after the release tells a lot, as well.

    • Tom W

I heard from my law enforcement friends that it was related to recent shady incidents like the robbery but this makes more sense

      • Wilbert31

Please keep shady out of this. I’d like him to stay on the team! ;)

    • Uncle Wonder

I dont buy that is what it was. Thats the cover story. Kid is in his late 20s and hasnt been suspended, jailed, or anything…of course it comes out the second they release him.

      • Tom W

Pretty telling evidence when the dots are connected by obviously a private investigator or good reporter. No other reason I see whatsoever.

        • Uncle Wonder

But certainly you can see the peculiarity in the timing…why didnt this come out months ago? The ‘writer’ had to in some way be taking instrux from the organization…which makes me…nvm, we shall see how it all shakes out.

          • Chris

I think if the org was involved in “waiting” for this to come out, they wouldve been able to flip him for SOMETHING before the bomb dropped

          • Uncle Wonder

That is what they hoped…but the market wasnt there…they wld nvr hv gotten fair value w this wr-heavy draft…so the second they flipped the switch the story comes out…feels connected to me

          • TripSquadMonopoly

who cares about fair value man. We accepted a long time ago we weren’t getting fair value. WE GOT NOTHING!

          • Jarrod

Maybe they are a more stand up organization than that. How would that look to the other teams around the league when they shop DJax and a month later they all find out he’s friends with gang members and who knows what else? Bad business IMHO

      • Tom w

        Your in denial

        • Uncle Wonder

Yes, I absolutely deny that thts all there is to the story…if youre pointing to me being delusional in some way i must inform you that you have mis-diagnosed

    • Eagles1018

Character has zero tolerance? So mike Vick and Riley Cooper being there ? They just signed a guy named Bryan Braman who plead guilty to drug use. Character my ass

    • birds

Of course ganags are bad news, but everyone who grows up in an inner city is going to have friends in gangs. It is just the way it is. The hope is that you move past those friends over time, which Desean didn’t do. I credit the Birds for taking a stand. But the innuendo and smear campaign by some like Eskin and Myths is a little sickening.

  • Nobes

    First Round pick… Sammy Watkins!

  • Weapon Y

    Fire Chip Kelly. Now

    • Javi Echie

      hands down the stupidest comment

      • EaglesFanInPhx

        agreed

        • Javi Echie

you agree to fire chip because he is establishing a culture?…maybe you should be a fan of the cowboys

          • George

            no, he agrees with u

          • EaglesFanInPhx

George has it. Agreed with you Javi.

          • Javi Echie

oh sorry my friend lol my apologies buddy I just got caught in the moment of an idiot comment saying fire chip kelly

      • Johnny Domino

        Hold off, it’s early.

      • Septhinox

Definitely a person who has benefited from Disqus’ down vote change…

    • LookinAtMyGucci

      Why?

      • Weapon Y

If Jason Garrett can deal with Dez Bryant, anyone should be able to play nice with DeSean Jackson.

        • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

Dez is not an (alleged) gang member, from what I know.
          And Chip is not Garrett.
          And Lurie is NOT Jerrah

          Apples and hand grenades.

          • Javi Echie

I would accept desean going to strip clubs and doing stupid stuff like that then having him associating with gang members and not just any gang members one of his closest friends and artist signed to his record label is a crip who is awaiting trial for the murder of a teenager that the cops questioned desean about. that’s too much baggage we don’t need regardless of the production

          • Eagledelphia

He was acquitted but same point

          • Javi Echie

thanks for the info friend. but yea still to much to deal with especially with chip who values character

          • Eagledelphia

Idk it still puzzles me but whatever it’s over with now we will see how whoever we draft in the first takes his place

    • Brian

      You’re fired.

  • Javi Echie

Apparently Chip is in love with Brandin Cooks. Bring him in!!!

  • Shark

Great talent, bad attitude. I have full faith in Chip to build this team #InChipWeTrust

  • DetmerWonAHeisman

There was fire with this smoke after all……

  • Beavis

I suppose the DJax tweet earlier in the week was either a sarcastic joke or he honestly believed things were good and the team/Chip just blindsided him.

  • botto

i guess Vick’s dog killers weren’t in an actual gang?
so if they’d only had t-shirts we would’ve never signed him i guess.
    lucky for him

    • usmcnole

How about stfu u ignorant asshole

      • botto

        ignorant?
i thought that was a pretty straight forward question.
DEsean has gang friends, we have other players with even worse friends so whats the deal?

        • George

we signed vick after he grew up, not before like djax (hopefully) will

          • botto

you’re right, and i realize that definitely vick was in a better place, i was just saying…you know.

        • usmcnole

I perceived your questions as another typical vick bashing for something he has paid his dues and then some. George is spot on. Not the same thing. Lets just leave vick and his past out of this

      • TripSquadMonopoly

Ur out of line. Its a valid point.

  • K.

I guess #22 in the draft will be th ebest available WR now…

    • Tom W

Always was w or without him

  • PB1

I’ll miss the highlight reel plays (punt return against NYG is one of the top plays in franchise history) but won’t miss the petulant attitude and getting pissed when he doesn’t get the ball on every play and fighting with teammates and coaches.
    Conflicted over this.

  • PB1

Message to the rest of hte league: Eagles are happy with Maclin/Cooper/Sproles and are likely going WR in the first round.

    • Tom W

Wrong. Message is we won’t tolerate gang affiliations. But thanks

  • hillbillybirdsfan

This is a bummer. Jersey trade-in?

    • Eagledelphia

      THIS!

  • Chris

I can understand where the organization is coming from, but how can they get NO compensation for Jackson’s production? That’s what i’m having trouble with. I get the hefty salary but you can’t say that a NE or Oakland or NYJ wouldn’t give ANYTHING for him? Maybe it was to make a statment, changing the atmosphere around here…either way, sad to see him go, but gotta keep believing in Chip.

    • EaglesFanInPhx

with gang ties report they weren’t going to get anything for him

      • Chris

I guess…guess it’s a shame we didn’t ship him sooner. Oh well, I can’t argue with the message we’re sending under the new regime.

        • TripSquadMonopoly

Mismanagement. Guess Chip thought we were winning a super bowl last year because we could have gotten SOMETHING for him.

          • Jarrod

Doubt they knew all the information before the season. I think they probably started digging once his house was robbed. They weren’t saying they were shopping him cuz
            1) All the gang stuff was a hoax and they would keep him or
            2) It was all true and they would release him so as to not make an enemy with the team they traded him to when this information surfaced

    • imnotsorryisaidthat

other teams know wat da birds know

  • EuropeanEagle

All this because he had “diamonds on his neck”… seriously though, even if i admired what he was capable of as a WR I always felt like he was a ‘me first’ kind of guy. Like that time when he talked about how he wanted to show the team that they depended on him. Still disappointed we couldn’t get a 1st for him however, but if the man’s a thug then I’m glad they dumped his ass!

    • TripSquadMonopoly

      Disappointed we couldn’t get a 1st? We couldn’t get a 7th

  • Tom W

Makes the mike Vick comments look all the more like a foreshadowing

    • kbrealsmmoth

Well, it sounds like to me that Desean Jackson can not help where he came from but made it and didn’t forget who he knew when he didn’t have it….it’s obvious he came from the ghetto and your best friend cousin may have done a few bad things before or your neighbor may have chosen a different path from yours but never the less you two played football together as well as went to the same schools and that is held against you for life… very sad

      • http://www.idonthaveawebsite.com theedevilsadvocate

making it out the hood is the goal for anyone in the hood that really wants to better themselves. you gotta leave that in your past when you are successful. that whole i keep it real i stay in the hood though im a successful sports star makes no sense to me.. for that dont play football stay in the hood and be hood if not whats the fucking point.

  • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

    WOW.
    there it is.
how many other teams knew, if they couldn’t get anything for him? and they knew they had to release if/when the details emerged?

    • Token

A team would still give up a 2015 7th rounder if they wanted to pay him 10.5 million right?

      • Jarrod

It would have been pretty shady of the Eagles to trade him to another team knowing this information. I don’t think they were shopping him. I think they were just waiting to get all the information and now they have it (I don’t think we do though).

        • Token

I doubt much comes from the gang stuff. That just makes a good story.

Like I said its a case of a player thinking hes worth more than the team thinks hes worth. No other team thinks hes a 10.5 mil player in addition to giving up any pick.

All the rumors didnt just come out of thin air obviously. They were shopping him. No buyers. So he gets released. Makes no sense to have it go on any longer.

          • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

Amazing how you swept that story under the rug. Nothing to see here.

          • Adam G

He just can’t admit it. There’s mountains and mountains of evidence against his theory.

          • Token

Whats my theory exactly? That Jackson isnt as good as you think he is? I havent read anything yet that tells me this gang stuff is gonna lead to anything. If you have a more updated link shoot it my way.

          • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

Not being/believing you’re worth 10.5M does not get you abruptly released in the NFL, 40 min after this story breaks.

          • Token

I believe Chip and the Eagles dont believe hes the WR everyone believes he is. That coupled with his salary and this off the field stuff was the last straw.

          • Adam G

So you going to ignore the trade offers they got or is that a lie?

          • Token

What offers did they get? Seriously, I must have missed it.

          • Adam G

Peter King for one is reporting they willingly turned down trade offers because of the info.

          • Adam G

Dude, I’ve been saying all along Desean isn’t worth the money, so don’t group me with everybody else. I’m saying this wasn’t bc of money, it was the off field stuff. The story about the eagles turning down trade offers to release him, if true, is pretty damning.

          • TripSquadMonopoly

Just heard Eagles didn’t want to displace their problems to another team. Maybe they weren’t shopping

          • dnabrice

I would believe that of the team. They wouldn’t just trade someone if there was something bad about to come out.

        • Amar (India)

Keep Shady out of this man !

      • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

fascinated to see what happens with the other 31 teams. 3 of the reputed targets (OAK, SF, SEA) out west, another just dealt with the Hernandez bit. Jets would bring him to NY media? Don’t think so.

Any franchise taking a chance on him?

        • Andy124

There’re months for this to play out. Probably wait for a while, do their own digging, if nothing else surfaces and they think the Eagles are just being overly cautious, swoop in and try to get a steal.

          • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

to me, that original article itself is only the 3rd most important point made by this article. To me, these are 1 and 2:

The move came within 40 minutes of an NJ.com report that detailed Jackson’s connection with Los Angeles-area gang members.

A source within the organization told the Web site: “They are concerned about having him around the younger players.”

Kelce’s tweet is 4. More to it than just that piece. But it was the bombshell.

          • Andy124

Yeah, I’m not arguing the move or complaining about it. And I agree with what you’re saying. Particularly the timing of the move. I’m just fighting against America’s inclination to convict people in the court of public opinion based on what the media tells them. See: Paterno, Joe.

  • imnotsorryisaidthat

guess he wont be going to new england

    • Will

      Lmao but not funny…

      • Johnny Domino

Guess I’ll hold my Raiders comment.

        • borntosuffer

          My mind immediately went there.

  • hillbillybirdsfan

He has to be involved in something other than flashing gang signs on Instagram or pot possession. I wonder how big the bombshell is. Sure hope he hasn’t killed anyone.

    • imnotsorryisaidthat

      he was bullying riley cooper

    • ohitsdom

That’s what I’m thinking, ESPECIALLY after Kelce’s tweet. I feel like it has to be bad for a player to basically say “SEE YA!” to another player.

  • Uncle Wonder

    • Javi Echie

      love kelce for this tweet

      • George

        i just love kelce

    • Tom w

Yep. Let’s move on as a team and organization and city and set an example our kids can be proud of.

      • Javi Echie

        Perfectly said

      • Uncle Wonder

LOL, like when they rallied around Cooper after all the kids in the city saw him call them n——s?

        • morgan c

One mistake when drunk that you apologize for profusely, and clearly have taken to heart… vs. a punk idiot who has been connected to criminals for years… ya, very similar. WRONG.

          • Uncle Wonder

One mistake when drunk? oh so ur one of those ppl who believes it was his first time talkin tht way and itll nvr happen again? Why are you copping pleas for him? I thought the team was setting an example the kids could be proud of…lol…tht was more public than anything DeSean has ever done

          • morgan c

Ya, I do think he probably won’t say it again. He has been publicly and professionally shamed, and realizes he could have lost his career. Unlike Desean, he isn’t brain-dead, so he probably realized he need to CHANGE (see: Vick, Michael). Maybe he said it before, maybe he didn’t. I sure as hell would bet we won’t be hearing of anymore controversies involving Coop henceforth. And I sure as hell bet we will keep hearing them with Jackson. That’s the point.

          • DharmaBum

Dude, don’t even bother. Three of these guys are never gonna be convinced that Jackson has anything bad attached to him. To have the attitude that you don’t want gang affiliations on your team is apparently racist to some people. You’ll never change those opinions.

          • Uncle Wonder

Well you are very optimistic about life…or naive. Godspeed

          • SBWitmer

The only thing I’d add regarding Cooper is dropping the Nword shows a state of mind .. its not a simple mistake that can you apologize away. Correct .. its not the same as DJs gang affiliation .. but lets also not pooh pooh it off as a drunken mistake ..

          • http://www.idonthaveawebsite.com theedevilsadvocate

i told my my gf i thought my neigbors are white trash redneck crackers i really dont hate all white people but in your eyes i do? and i was sober as hell too. lol

        • Tom w

Grasping for straws in that comparison but have fun w that

          • Uncle Wonder

You consider that completely logical response to your tweet ‘grasping for straws?’ lol, ok…if you say so

        • KimbaFuzz

Thank you. Cooper gets support for being a KNOWN racist. DJax knows unsavory folks and gets released. GTFOH. This just all feels a bit too much.

          • #7

Lmao you got me rollin in here

        • Eagles4Life

No surprise there. Wasn’t Kelce at the concert too?! LOL. Comedy.

        • Maggie

All of you carrying on about Jackson and race seem to have forgotten one thing. In a league loaded with African Americans, players and management and league officials, NOBODY wanted to trade for Desean Jackson!!!!!! Nobody WANTED him on their teams!!!!! Nobody except some Eagle fans thought he was all that great at his position!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even before last season, he was rated 31st by NFL.com. Thirty first wide receiver!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I highly doubt that all 30 WRs ahead of him were white.

    • Myke Lowery

Wait…No ending the tweet with #birdgang?

      • Tom w

        Lmao!

    • KobraKai7474

That tweet from Kelce says it all. Clearly at least some members of that locker room are happy to see him go.

  • Javi Echie

Bob Bicknell is doing back flips across the Linc at the news of this

  • Ark87

    This
    Sucks

  • DharmaBum

Wow, I certainly stand corrected on this one. I didn’t think there was any way, any how, that they would do this. The gang thing much go a lot deeper than any of us thought. Can’t believe how wrong I was about this one.

  • Mugzy Payton

OMG, he’s friends with people who may or may not be bad

    • johnnysanz3

lol may or may not be? The Shakir guy he is taking photos with and working with him under his music label isa known gang member and in jail as the suspect in the shooting of a 14 year old.

      • Mugzy Payton

        Article says Shakir was acquitted

        • Joe from Easton

Flashing gang signs and employing gang members of the most notorious gang in the United States isn’t exactly the hyperbole that you make it out to be. I don’t want that on the team I root for.

          • Mugzy Payton

The guy who spent time in federal prison was ok though? How about the guy yelling the N word? The guy who threw a girl off his party bus? Kurt Coleman?!

          • Jerry Pomroy

Did those guys use the NFL to secretly showcase their affiliations to gangs? Flashing those gang sings on national TV, on top of all the other stuff almost certainly will have lead to ramifications from the league office. I would assume harsh ones at that.

          • Joe from Easton

The guy who spent time in the pen came out and deserved a second chance AFTER paying his debt and proving to have matured. If he messed up he’d have been gone in a flash.

The guy yelling the N-word was drunk and that seemed to be an isolated incident. Again I’m sure they would’ve cut him had something more come of it.

This guy throws up gang signs, owns a rap label that employs known gang members of the crips, and has been connected to people charged (and acquitted) of murder. That’s too much baggage. What will come out next? Not worth waiting for find out.

I wanted him back until I read that report on NJ.com. After that it’s a pretty easy call to me. Check him out on youtube promoting his rapper at a battle. He’s a thug. He’s wasting his money and he’s getting into things he doesn’t belong in.

          • Mugzy Payton

For a thug, he has a really clean record. Desean is more a poser than a thug.

          • Joe from Easton

That’s even worse. What length’s will he go to in order to prove his thug ways when push comes to shove with his Gangster friends?

If he’s a millionaire with the world by the balls and still wants to pose as a thug then he’s got a problem. We don’t need that problem.

Bye DJax. Thanks for the Miracle #2. Good riddance.

          • EagleDuck

Man, I seriously hope this type of reasoning is not how you make real life decisions… On an internet board sure, but not real life…

          • Mugzy Payton

He’s a football player, not state treasurer. He grew up in the hood, is it a surprise he has friends who are probably in a gang? Iverson is still loved in this town, right? He has a worse rap sheet than Desean… by far.

          • EagleDuck

Is it a surprise he has friends in a gang? Yes. I’m surprised anyone would knowingly and willingly associate with gang members. Its a shockingly bad idea. Turns out it can even get you fired from pretty sweet jobs in the NFL.

          • Andy124

            Nice comment.

          • Jerry Pomroy

“I wanted him back until I read that report on NJ.com. After that it’s a pretty easy call to me.”

Here, here to that!! Anyone condoning it or trying to make excuses for this behavior is quite frankly an idiot. Sorry but true.

          • anon

the report literally doesnt say anything

          • Andy124

My biggest response to that would be not to take what you read as gospel. I have nothing against that author, but don’t put too much faith in him.

          • Jerry Pomroy

I don’t place my faith in the author but rather the findings indicated by the detective, the info relayed from his high school coach who is out in Cali, the pictures that physically link him to the gang and him flashing what have been confirmed by the detective to actually be crip gang signs in photos AND on national television.

          • Andy124

Please understand I’m not trying to pound the table defending DJ. I’m just trying to get on the same page here.
*The detective said DJ wasn’t a suspect in anything. He also said DJ was affiliated some a guy accused and acquitted of murder.
*High school coach said he was a good kid. Got involved with some not-so-good kids when his dad died.
*Flashing gang sings is certainly not classy, but I’ve seen people do it to be funny and could see little napoleon’s doing it to try to seem intimidating.

I think when all is said and done, the picture won’t be very pretty for DJ, I just don’t think that picture should be drawn in ink right now.

          • Uncle Wonder

LOL…thts very optimistic…you should know that neither drunkeness nor racist comments are ‘isolated’ incidents.

          • Joe from Easton

Maybe you’re right. I’m not here to engage in discussions about Cooper though.

The fact is that right now DeSean is unemployed because enough dirt was dug up that a top 10 talent at his position was cut and $6 million dollars were eaten by his ex-team. I’m willing to bet that what they found on him was worse than whatever you want to put it in context with.

          • IAteLunchToday

Don’t bring Michael Vick up as a bad guy. The guy did horrible stuff. But he served his time and actually changed and became a better person. He did what exactly what we all hope people will do in his situation, but they rarely ever do. So yeah, Vick was OK to have on the team in my opinion. Jackson apparently is unabashed in his affiliation with people associated with murder and gangs. But yes gang members who are acquitted are always obviously completely innocent in all facets of their lives so I guess there is nothing wrong with that now that I think about it. I cannot defend signing Cooper. I still think he was overpaid.

          • Mugzy Payton

Guy who personally did and was friends with people who did horrible things is better than a guy who may be friends with somebody who may have done horrible things. Awesome logic there.

          • IAteLunchToday

The point was Vick changed and we could expect good things from him and his behavior. Jackson wasn’t changing and who the heck knows what to expect from him. Plus, obviously, with the whole Aaron Hernandez thing, it’s better to just not be surprised.

        • johnnysanz3

My bad, reading comprehension fail. Still looks pretty shady though.

  • imnotsorryisaidthat

I could be wrong but im thinking his crip walk in the end zone after he scores might scare some teams off

  • http://thewarriors.wikia.com/wiki/Cleon Where’s Cleon?.

I usually dont comment very often but after seeing those news i got really pisses off but i hope it works out in the long run…Dam.

  • Brandon Pinkney

Now it’s a necessity that we draft a wideout pretty early. Especially with Maclin a question mark and Cooper only having one good year… it really troubles me that the eagles couldn’t get any compensation for this guy. Way to drop the ball….

    • TripSquadMonopoly

So much for drafting defense now we have to expect our D to not improve greatly.

  • morgan c

Fucking stupid. Just released him straight up? For nothing? Zero way to explain this. Categorically dumb.
    Fuck you Howie!

    • Token

No. team. wanted. to. give. up. anything.

      Think thats pretty clear.

      • TripSquadMonopoly

Not sure how clear that is. And then why not trade him months ago? Hes been who hes been since he got robbed. Nothing has happened since then.

        • Jarrod

Clearly the Eagles were looking into it. They weren’t going to give up on a top 10 WR with inaccurate information. So they waited til they got all the info. There was zero info coming from Roseman or Kelly. Never said they were shopping him. They got their information and they let him go.

        • Token

So you believe they just didnt try to trade him? I mean, come on people.

          • TripSquadMonopoly

Im not people. So when you reply to my post address me. They got greedy is my guess. Turned teams away.

          • Token

yea….so that they could release him. Use your brain.

          • Joe from Easton

            Kudos for the Jimmy reference.

  • Will

Cliff what is the cap situation dead money hit and so on?

    • Corey Dawson

I read 6 million dead, somewhere around 6.5 million saved. Gonna go check over the cap now, because that doesn’t sound like what I read before.

      edit: about right http://www.overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=DeSean Jackson&Position=WR&Team=Eagles

  • Corey Dawson

At least we’re not confused anymore.

  • Weapon Y

Chip Kelly is not Steve Spurrier 2.0. He’s Nick Saban 2.0. He’s an arrogant dictator who thinks he can replace any player at any time and will get rid of someone if he simply doesn’t like them. There’s only one way this ends: our mediocre group of receivers get exposed and passing game collapses, which in turn slows down our running game. The defense doesn’t improve because Chip will draft a receiver (a total crapshoot that will likely give us a player who isn’t as good as a top-10 guy like DeSean) instead and still play like Swiss cheese.

    • BleedGreenJames

      GANG AFFILIATION, BRO

    • Will

Still DeSean Jackson has to be a role model being or was the highest paid player . There is responsibility being the face of a franchise. It simply doesn’t matter how good he is on the field if off the field you are hanging out with known Crips Gang members who are charged in the murder of a 14 year old kid…

      • anon

OK have you seen how shady treats women?

      • Weapon Y

I don’t give a shit about what he does off the job. I don’t care about role models. I care about results. DeSean gave the Eagles results. Chip would rather lose games just to make a point.

    • Tom w

What a dope. Thanks for the comment though.

      • Weapon Y

        Tell me how I’m wrong

  • Will

Wow Mike Evans has to be on the Eagles Radar big time….looks like we might trade up for sure now…

    • Tom w

Maybe or sit and take cooks or odb or hopefully trade down and take Adams Robinson or moncrief Need a ton of juice to climb to get Evans … Maybe as high as before buffalo ad lions

      • Javi Echie

If chip is looking for a wr comparable to desean then hands down get cooks..the kid is an animal

        • Tom w

Yea I think odb and cooks fit better in the offense anyway. Evans would be perfect

          • cliff henny

cant even imagine Evans in offense, be sick

          • Andy124

Liar. I’ve seen you imagine it lots of times.

          • cliff henny

imagine, dream, draw, create bedroom wall murals…yeah, no jax will kick up my stalking creepy meter

          • Andy124

Yeah, now I just need Barr to play WR too. Bring back Iron Man football.

      • cliff henny

        I vote…ALL OF THE ABOVE!

      • Will

Next year’s 1st and are 2nd round this year maybe…

        • Uncle Wonder

For a team tht wants to build thru the draft, tht sms unlikely

      • Uncle Wonder

lol, what trade fodder do we have?

  • The observer

Guess it wasn’t a random act at Dax home in south philly………………..

  • Brent E. Sulecki

soo. who will be first to apologize on here for saying the media started this

  • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

    cliff! cap update!

    • cliff henny

adds 18m to 2yrs, depends how they do accounting

    • eneagled

I was thinking the same thing!
I think the biggest disappointment is not losing Jackson, which now seems necessary, but our approach to FA. If the Eagles knew that his contract wasn’t going to be on the books, one way or the other; then why couldn’t we have been more aggressive.

      • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

        for what?
The only guy worth A money was Byrd- to us, clearly not Chip. He got A++ money.
there was just no reason to spend money for sake of spending

        • Andy124

          Tell that to my wife.

        • eneagled

I’m not saying they had to spend A money, but couldn’t they have signed some “B money” NT’s or LB’s or something? Just a couple 1 or 2 year deals. I don’t think your batting average matters if you aren’t swinging.

          • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

again, I’m asking who? who was worth B money, that is immediately stepping in and starting over Cole or Logan (esp. Logan, and the other young DL)? or is better than any draft pick they are sure to spend on def. frontn 7?

          • eneagled

I’ll run through the some FA lists and get back to you… but in the meantime I’d like to point out that you are again putting words in my mouth. First it was A money, now it’s a starter for B money that would be better than anyone in the draft? I never said those things. But I’ll take some of the blame here because I could have been more specific. What I’d like was one or two more Nolan Carrol-esque deals. Just players who add depth, maybe compete for starting jobs or contribute special teams. It’s not like we have a ton of draft picks to add depth at every position. Maybe Ryans could play a few less snaps. And while its probably too much money to put into anyone position, it sure would have been nice to have Ward and Jenkins starting at safety.

          • dnabrice

Didn’t you read the article about Chip decision? He wanted Jenkins the whole time.

          • eneagled

Not sure if you’re serious. and also not sure how that would apply to adding depth.

    • Tom w

Love where your head is at!

    • cliff henny

assume taking all 6m dead ’14, after sanchez have about 20m. next year though, he’s off books, so working off cap of 140m, eagles are under 10m (and cap could be higher). now, cap is very solid. Howie can get 2 or 3 more special team aces (for JofreyRice).

      • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

any more Matthews nephews coming up the college pipeline?

and is that before rollover from this year?

        • cliff henny

if there is, not college more like pipeline Andy DuFraine crawled a mile out of

        • Richard Colton

Jordan I’ll take. Wouldn’t mind the O-lineman from A&M Matthews either. Just as long as casey takes the long walk.

      • Adam G

After some contract reworks they are going to be more under the cap next year then they were this year when fa started.

        • cliff henny

probably…but took getting rid of best WR. as I said, ’15 was a concern and Howie was going to do something to clear space. now, Howie can cut, restructure extend anyone his coal black heart desires. sure by end, Eagles will have a nice and pretty ’15 cap, like usual. sign ’12 guys, and batting average the F’n bejesus out of ’15 FA.

          • Adam G

Potential ’15 FAs are interesting with all the 2011 draftees coming off contract and the options the teams can pick up.

          • cliff henny

well, list them best to worst and start in the middle of the page

          • Adam G

I don’t know if you are being serious or not. So I don’t know if you know the rules but that option year is only available for 1st round picks. And it is much higher for picks 1-10 then 11-32. For instance Cam Newton will def be optioned and AJ Green as well. Annnnd I just got the joke.

          • cliff henny

meant list FA best to worst, and start looking at the ones in the middle…at best

          • Adam G

Yeah, now I got that. We’ll know more by May 3rd, which is the cutoff. If teams won’t option, they won’t franchise either, bc its cheaper. Von Miller will be really interesting. In line to get high option, I don’t know if the Broncos can afford him.

          • cliff henny

Howie will pucker up tighter than a snare drum at VM asking price

          • Adam G

He really would be a great fit though.

          • cliff henny

hopefully they find someone close to him in this draft. surprisingly, Denver has a really good cap situation

          • Adam G

They do because Von Miller and the Thomases aren’t listed. 3 players that are at the top of their positions and are very young. Only have 29 players listed under 2015.

          • borntosuffer

            Hahaha. That’s just wrong, cliff

          • damrvrhunter

            You have mastered sarcasm!

        • dnabrice

          Starting with Cole.

      • Andy124

But shouldn’t we just pay all 10M to someone worth 5M so we can say we did?

      • GreenScabs

We’ll be around 10 mil under just against that 2015 cap, but keep in mind that we can carry over the $21.5 we currently have, and I’m pretty sure we’ll be getting rid of a number of our highest contracts, i.e. Trent Cole (counting $11.5 mil against the 2015 cap, $3.2 mil in dead money if cut, so a savings of $8.3 mil), Cary Williams (counting $8.1 mil against the cap, $1.6 mil in dead money if cut, so a savings of $6.5 mil), DeMeco Ryans (counting $6.9 mil against the cap, no dead money if cut, so a savings of the full $6.9 mil), James Casey (counting $4 mil against the cap, no dead money if cut, so a savings of $4 mil), and I’m sure we can extend LeSean to get his cap number down to at least around $8 mill instead of the $12 mil he currently takes up against the cap.
Just those guys mentioned above is a cap savings of $29.7 mil, and if you include the $21.5 mil in carryover, and the $10 mil actually under the 2015 cap, we could have the potential to be sitting at $61.2 mil in cap space. Even if we replace those guys mentioned above with salaries of $1 mil, we’ll be sitting at $57.2 mil in space. We will be in total control of anything and everything we could possibly want to do next off-season.

        • cliff henny

sure, sounds great. waited 35 yrs, what’s another. hope Howie gets a raise because he’s got a double gold star cap.
          .
actually appreciate eagles cap management, but dumping jax for nothing has me in crappy eagles mood

          • Uncle Wonder

Understatement of the year…i have all this work to do and now its gettin pushed til monday lol

          • GreenScabs

I’m in the same boat! I just keep looking at my DeSean Jackson signed Eagles helmet in my office……… God Dammit!

          • GreenScabs

I’m in total agreement with you! I understand why it had to be done, I also understand why we couldn’t trade him to a team without them knowing of the circumstances if we ever wanted to be respected as a class organization to deal with. BUT it doesn’t make me feel any better about it! With the deepest draft in years around the corner, and having the fewest picks we’ve had in forever, and now having to possibly dedicate a high pick on WR due to this release.
We have to be the only franchise in history to have released three potential hall of fame receivers while getting absolutely nothing in return for them! Chris Carter (Hall of Famer), T.O. (will be a Hall of Famer at some point, the numbers are just too good), and now DeSean (though I don’t think he is a Hall of Famer by any stretch, but if he maintained his statistics for a few more years he could be. He will probably have the most 50 yard plus TD’s in the history of the league).
Say hello to Odell Beckham Jr………..

          • Adam G

Going to go out on a limb and say he will not be a hall of famer. He’s only been to the pro bowl twice as a WR

          • GreenScabs

I agree, so let me rephrase myself; We have to be the only franchise in the history of the league to have released three WR’s who have multiple pro-bowl appearances, while in the prime of their careers, and received absolutely nothing in return for them!

          • cliff henny

guess we have to see how quickly he get’s picked up. these ‘circumstances’ and ‘gold standards’ might all be in lurie’s head if jax signs 3yr 20m contract Monday.

        • Amar (India)

Cool, so Howie gets the trophy for best cap management…Wait, there is one.

          • #7

            SMH tell it

          • Adam G

Can’t believe you haven’t heard of the Joe Banner trophy.

    • Mr. Magee

Cliffy is the best, isn’t he? And he costs us nothing against the cap…

      • cliff henny

I have no issue giving my address and accepting beer

  • Jerry Pomroy

Hmm, T-Law said something odd the other day in regards to the Eagles and DeSean about the team having investigators or something like that. I wonder if they decided to have a PI start digging deeper into DJax personal life and didn’t like what he reported… Hmm?

Good riddance. I think the charity work & the NFL were both a front and capital source for deeper, darker things going on in background.

    • Ark87

After the Hernandez thing, zero tolerance. I wonder how this would have been handled pre-Hernandez.

      • Uncle Wonder

Hernandez is accused of multiple murders! Do you see DeSean killing anyone? And teams knew who hernandez was from college…i dont think that is comparable to who DeSeans friends are…Hernandez is obviously the friend everyone should have been afraid of. DeSean is from the hood…owns a record label, sure…was he coming to work drunk? high? was chip lying to us about his work ethic and engagement? that should be what matters…idk, mayb im the retard here…but then again for ppl who arent from the hood or havent bn around tht element in their life like i hv it prolly sms more sinister than it is.

        • Nailed it!

Hernandez story started out slow.. then it snowballed. I wonder if this has the same feeling to it?

        • Ark87

Not saying Desean is like Hernandez. Implying that if New England knew he had a bad crowd, but ignored it…..

Let me put it this way. If New England DID know Hernandez had a posse, they might have been inclined to let it be as long as he kept his nose clean. Hind sight and all that…organizations across the board may have set a zero-tolerance policy. Affiliation gets you dumped, period.

          • Uncle Wonder

Multiple reports tht hv come out show NE knew all along…he fell in the draft cuz of who he was known to be from his time at FL…

        • Jerry Pomroy

He used and abused the NFL on national TV to secretly promote his gang affiliations. You think the owners are gonna just sit back and take that? Zero tolerance. That’s not even including the other info known and what’s yet to be revealed.

          • Uncle Wonder

            ummm…r u talkin abt hernandez?

          • Jerry Pomroy

No DJax flashing gang signs on field.

          • Uncle Wonder

is your post satirical? or do u believe he was trying to promote his gang affiliations? far as i can see he was gettin into it w D. Hall…just like every other wr in the league and D. Hall.

    • Tom w

I think the entire Philly sports media missed the entire story completely and most posters on tlaws site owe chip and Howie a giant apology for ripping them both for two weeks.

      • cliff henny

then I want an apology for 4 hrs 16 sundays a year for past 35 yrs I’ve wasted!

        • Tom w

  • Birdbrain77

Everyone is going to have an opinion on this, including myself. I think it’s dangerous to just start labeling a person as a criminal or “no good” because of who their friends are. As far as I know, Jackson hasn’t committed any crimes. Already people are saying who’s going to want a guy that could be arrested? Any of us could be arrested, it depends on weather or not we do something to warrant that arrest. So far he hasn’t done anything; therefore, he gets the benefit of doubt for me. He is a good player and from what I’ve seen a good human being who takes time to serve the community, especially young bullied children. I wish him well.

    • DharmaBum

I agree, in the sense that I seriously doubt that he has ever been involved with any actually gang killings. I’d assume that he’s smart enough to keep himself directly insulated from that, as well as the fact that he doesn’t strike me as a genuinely bad person, deep in his heart. What I think any team would be scared of is merely his affiliation. They don’t care if he actually pulled the trigger, as they shouldn’t. No one wants a gang affiliated guy in the locker room, whether he;s a full-fledged member or not.

    • Mr. Magee

    Howard Eskin ‏@howardeskin 12m

On alledged “robbery” police questions. Why were car keys and less than $100 left behind. Police believe No cash stolen, only gun

    .
    yeah, that’s not good

    • Adam G

So he was offering 50k reward for a stolen gun? Hmmmmm

      • cliff henny

guessing bs smokecreen? that gun is in the bottom of a river by now covered by 2feet of mud, is think what eskin is hinting at

        • Adam G

Makes sense. But you can just throw a gun away without reporting a robbery.

          • cliff henny

didn’t say the guy was a criminal mastermind, just a really good WR

          • Jerry Pomroy

But what if it’s found & linked to something? I knew a guy that would get into car accidents, run from scene and call to report car stolen.

          • Adam G

Yeah, that’s right, but it still doesn’t make sense. If the crime was committed before he reported the gun stolen. I must be missing something.

          • cliff henny

            wait…you can do that?

    • Mugzy Payton

Eskin is a known mouthpiece. Weird how he has this nugget just in time for the release. And who cares if it was a gun? Not illegal to own a gun

      • Tom w

Not under Howie he isn’t. Maybe he held back so eagles could try and trade him. My law enforcement friends have known the robbery was fishy from the get go.

    • Tom w

There has got to be something more to this story… I just keep thinking back to Hernandez and how his story started off slow then it snowballed

  • PhiEagles14

Ive seen comments saying that our season is gone, and our offense is going to fail now that jackson is gone… we have, Foles, Mac, Coop, Ertz, Celek, Shady, Sproles, a draft pick…. we will be fine! …. Oh and by the way, we have probably the best offensive mind in the entire game as our head coach….

It frickin sucks we didn’t get anything out of Jackson, i thought we could of at least gotten a pick out of it. We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. If there is something any where related to murder, thats the last thing that this team needs!

I trust Chip, I trust the men on this team, we lost one of our biggest play makers, but our season isn’t “Shot” as some of you are putting it. If one of our captains on our team Jason Kelce says, “We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldn’t be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly”

We are headed in the right direction, this is pulling the knife out of the wound, it will heal, we will be fine!!!

    • Tom w

      Dead right.

  • DharmaBum

Gargano has already declared that DeSean will never play again, lol

    • Adam G

Makes sense. Why would a team risk that?

  • eneagled

One Bird in hand is worth two in the bush. I just hope it applies to Maclin too. because if Maclin/the WR we take in the draft doesn’t produce for us and our offense stalls, we’re going to have to listen to every shitty commentator talk circles around the situation all season long.

    • dnabrice

Shady is the main player that makes our WR better.

  • Tom w

Please let me here every single commenter say our offense is going to decline next year? Please let me keep a record of it so I can call out everyone when we are putting up 30 every game

    • ohitsdom

How does losing DeSean make us better? We are very thin at WR. Hopefully Maclin comes back to form, and Benn stays healthy and can play. Now we’re in a position where the Eagles might have more pressure to get a WR early, rather than just taking the best player available.

    • Kev_H

The Eagles offense will smash records next year.

  • Explorer51

Re: if these investigations of criminal cases took place a couple of years ago, why now? The alleged break-in and robbery earlier this year may turn up some unsavory stuff. And if the Eagles were trying to trade him there would probably be the need for full disclosure to the other team, as well as many NFL teams now have their own security staffs to probe into allegations. After the Hernandez case included gang ties, you have to assume that the league is ultra-sensitive to these affiliations, even if it’s just to keep advertisers and other financial partners happy.

    • Jerry Pomroy

Bingo!… Perception is reality. NFL has new deal coming up and I’m sure they don’t want to continue the path with these gang affiliations. In positive that there is an NFL investigation leading to a lengthy suspension.

  • Nailed it!

Eff. ESPN they are hammering Desean right now, but they are giving that woman beater Ray Rice a pass as a good guy in a bad situation!!??

    • anon

      don’t they employ ray lewis?

  • Jerry Pomroy

I guarantee the league investigates this. Teams aren’t going to touch him with a ten foot pole. At least not until they know the results of the league’s dealings with this. Even then it’s gonna be a short list and no more jackpot for jaccpot.

    • Javi Echie

Every team except for the raiders lol

      • Jerry Pomroy

He’s getting a suspension. Believe you me. It’s not gonna be a short one either. Not after the league was embarrassed by Hernandez. At least a year.

“#Eagles have been increasingly looking into DeSean Jackson’s off-field behavior. Weren’t aware of contents of http://nj.com story.”

“#Eagles have been shopping DeSean Jackson since March 1. Didn’t feel appropriate dealing him to other teams not knowing full story.”

    • anon

Please they are peddling that last line on SC you know they knew, but didn’t want egg on their face. If that was actually the case they would have cut him before.

DJAX doesnt even have a DD arrest.

      • Jerry Pomroy

He was arrested in ’09 for marijuana possession and plead out to a lesser charge of disturbance of the peace.

        • Uncle Wonder

Half the league has that charge…we dont find out cuz theyre in the leagues program.

    • Uncle Wonder

lol…thts a lie…the organization knew all abt the story. either they gv the ok for it to be released once they made a final decision, or the writer of the article was holding them hostage and refused to swallow the story so they had no other choice.

  • Eagles1018

You guys been using the term “smoke screen” a lot to describe other things. Now THIS…this is obviously a smoke screen. There’s another reason the eagles let him go. Not because of “affiliations”. Don’t think he’s the 1st player or the last to deal with gangs. Someone on another site mentioned Bobby Taylor. There’s definitely other guys in the league. I smell bullshit

  • Matt Broad

This is some old school Joe Banner smear-tactics bull-ish. A black man from Long Beach has GANG CONNECTIONS?!!! STOP THE PRESSES!!!

    • Mugzy Payton

      He likes rap too!

  • LostInChiTown

As an Eagles fan, this just plain saddens me. It saddens me that I won’t get to see someone who was one of my favorite players continue as an Eagle, and it saddens me that a player I’ve enjoyed so much has this association and has made these terrible choices in his life. I’ve always enjoyed not just his skills, but the passion he lets himself show when he’s having fun. I admired and was encouraged by his work against bullying. Even though he let his contract become an issue at times, I thought he could stay in Philly for years and help fill the void left by fixtures like Dawkin’s, Runyon and others. I was wrong, and it makes me sad.

Even though it’ll never feel the same, let’s remember one last time who the man is.

  • GEAGLE

Pats lose their stud for being a criminal…we lost ours for being a clown? Not even sure which is worse…

    • Ark87

I said in an earlier post, but I can’t help but wonder if the Hernandez incident led to a zero tolerance policy for gang affiliation across the league, or wonder how this might have been handled pre-Hernandez indictment.

      • GEAGLE

Def had impact, but not across the league…Lurie ain’t the type of owner to stand for this. Neither will Kraft after what happened, the roony’s,..,.but some will exploit this, act like they are giving him a second chance to rehabilitate himself and get him for cheap…Pete Carroll is going to get Desean, and We will have to play him this year…smh

        • Eagles1018

          Exactly

        • Kev_H

I don’t think he’ll play this year but if he does, against the Eagles, I’m pretty sure our defense would look forward to smacking him. Worse thing that can happen is he scampers out of bounds and flashes the Crips sign like a big man.

  • anon

They did djax dirty. If they had something, say something. But to cut him and then let rumors swirl after standing behind riley is crazy.

    • DharmaBum

Any definitive statement would open them up to lawsuits. They may have info that say, a cop or prosecutor couldn’t use in court, but that they KNOW implicates him.

      • Adam G

It’s called defamation, of course they won’t say anything unless they knew it 100%.

        • DharmaBum

Knowing something 100%, and being able to present the evidence you have in a court of law to prove it, are often two different things. Like I said before, it doesn’t matter if he was a card-carrying member of the Crips…it is obvious from his social media activities that HE thinks he’s a member. That’s enough

    • Token

If they cut him and then smear him more you same people would be flipping out even worse. Its best to keep their mouths shut a few days I think. Let it cool down.

  • Kev_H

They have to do this with what happened with Aaron Hernandez. I admit Jackson had me fooled when he wasn’t holding his gun sideways while shooting in the instagram picture he posted the other day.

  • DharmaBum

Like I posted last week when we were all grappling for answers to why the Birds might not want him, the fact is that the Eagles — like an other team or any other multi-billion dollar corporation — has internal investigators. Ex-military, FBI, whatever. These guys are GOOD at what they do. To think that the Eagles didn’t tell these guys to find out the real scoop on this robbery and everything DeSean, in general, is just deluding yourself. Every multi-billion dollar corporation does exhaustive investigations into anything or anyone with whom they have made that large an investment. It’s just smart business, plain and simple. What multi-billion dollar businesses DO NOT do, is dump investments on a whim OR by the same token, stick with investments that present a danger to the organization. Clearly, the Eagles did their homework on DeSean Jackson, and something damaging enough surfaced. People and executives who run billion dollar businesses rarely, if ever, make rash or emotional business decisions. That is the bottom line.

I’ve seen his statement denying any membership in a gang, and I don’t think it matters if he is a card-carrying member of the Crips. What DOES matter, and is PLAIN TO SEE in so many of his Instagram and Twitter posts, is that HE thinks he’s a member. That is troubling enough.

    • Mugzy Payton

Or maybe he likes the image because it helps his rap label? Jay Z has palled around with gang members his whole career and now is a global celebrity and NBA franchise owner.

      • DharmaBum

Well, first of all, Jay-Z is not an employee of a multi-billion dollar football franchise. He is a record company mogul in a genre that promotes gang activity in its listeners and customers. And second of all, Jay-Z had to get rid of his interest in the Nets since he got into the sports agent business.

        • anon

Who do you think owns that record company? Does not Jay z have endorsements? Everyone is an employee

          • DharmaBum

Never said Jay-Z doesn’t have someone above him…he does. But that person, or persons, runs a company that relies on those very gang members for, not only customers, but a steady stream of new rap talent. Can you not see the difference in those two situations?

          • anon

Have you seen football fans? What music are they playing at the games — not kinny chesney.

          • DharmaBum

Ok, well then maybe teams should start playing up the gang thing, huh? Listen, I’m not here to argue with you. I know that some people are going to defend him to the death. It’s ok, that’s their opinion. I try not to be emotional about it. I know the Eagles have ex-military/FBI type investigators who know their shit. They have info…maybe info that would be inadmissible in court, but real info, nonetheless. Multi-billion dollar corporations NEVER do anything that would damage the organization, and certainly not on a whim. Bottom line.

It probably isn’t a good feeling to have to count on a flake to succeed in your livelihood. Jackson is the most likely guy in the NFL to both a championship winning TD play by premature clowning- and that is probably indicative of how he goes about anything else. If you can’t keep it together when you are crossing the goal line, you aren’t going to be part of any trophy ceremonies. That’s why his teammates are happy.

Even Vick said that Desean has to hopefully learn from this. He indicated that Desean needs to change his ways. So if Vick as one of his best friends says this there is some more to Desean causing problems in locker room than most people understand.

      • #7

I get that. I guess I’m hanging on to the fact that he has never been arrested nor does he have a record. This was an out for Eagles. That is what I think until, as Cliff Henny puts it, more dirty laundry comes out.

I hate to even make the commentary about this, but this is crazy. ONE actual event where DeSean messed up. ONE. “Suspicions” and “concerns” about black men and their dealings. That’s it. Meanwhile, we wanted to rehabilitate and counsel Riley about using the nword in a violent fashion at a Chesney concert. Why couldn’t the same have been done for DeSean? There were just as many accounts last year of Riley being a spoiled, immature, and reckless kid all his life. Was all that researched to the extent of DeSean. Those are questions that can’t be answered factually by me, but the questions of handling should be raised. I really can’t stand by an organization with that mentality, if in fact, that is the case.

Do you know anything about the Cripps gang violence? The fact that DeSean hangs with these type of individuals is a very serious lapse in judgement on his part. It cost him his job.

      • Caught Red Hernandez

Should we remove every player from the league who has gang affiliations via their friends? There won’t be enough players left in the leagues to field 6 teams. Gtfoh with that nonsense!

The man gets paid to produce on the field and he does exactly that. End of conversation.

        • Andy124

          Prove it.

          • Caught Red Hernandez

I stated my point. You prove that i’m mistaken. I can wait…

          • Andy124

You made an unsupported and ridiculous claim. The onus is on you to prove it.

For example. I know for a fact that you are a 1-legged mass murdering leprechaun. All will consider you such until you prove otherwise. Or do you think I should offer some support of my claim?

          • Caught Red Hernandez

No, i would simply post a pic and shut down your argument.

If you think gang culture isn’t prevalent in professional sports, I have a bridge to sell you…

          • Andy124

            Prove it.

          • Richard Colton

The NFL? No way. Hernandez was the exception. Look at what his teammates said about him after the fact. Andy is right on this one. You want to make a statement like that, you’re going to have to back it up.

          • Andy124

You’re being far too polite considering he’s a 1-legged mass murdering leprechaun.

        • Mr. Magee

that mentality might have been prevalent/defensible… up until the point that Hernandez got caught red Hernandez

          • Caught Red Hernandez

nice pun but i’m not buying it. Hernandez had multiple incidents that he was directly involved in that the Pats ignored.

Jackson is essentially guilty by association.

          • Mr. Magee

All things considered, you really think the Eagles should have sucked it up and kept Jackson? Worth noting that apparently no other NFL team was willing to step up and take the same deal that the Eagles had.

My hope for DJ is that this ends up being the same wake up call that Chris Carter got.

          • Caught Red Hernandez

Absolutely! When he gets into some actual trouble then i would completely understand but not at this point, based off pure speculation

          • Mr. Magee

Not me. I think the change of scenery / splash of cold water will help DeSean – and I truly hope it does.

As for the Eagles, I support their decision to move on… and I don’t even know all the facts.

          • anon

Yeah heard vick say the same thing.

        • Will

You have never lived in the inner city to appreciate the seriousness of gangs and the effect on the community.

          • Caught Red Hernandez

Oh really? Tell me where i grew up since you obviously know..

        • Eagles4Life

          THANK YOU.

      • Eagles4Life

Dude, I come from a bad area. I’m now a corporate lawyer. I know what it’s like to still have friends back home that never did anything with themselves. If I am not out there doing what they’ve done, me visiting them when I come home to see family or keeping in contact is not the same as being in the streets gangbanging. Period.

        • Adam G

You throwing gang signs up all over the place?

          • Eagles4Life

I have before in different settings. But let’s be honest, how many of you all dug up or saw anything of the sort that you pinpointed with that in the SIX YEARS he’s been with the organization. I’ll wait.

          • Adam G

Don’t understand what that has to do with anything. Pretty sure this came to light more since he’s been all over instagram and the field flashing signs.

          • Eagles4Life

No, it came to light because the FO & Chip don’t want him. Did you look at the dates on all the alleged stuff?

          • Adam G

Maybe the “robbery” made them dig a bit?

          • #7

Millions of people get their home broken into everyday..

          • Adam G

How is it with your head constantly buried in the sand? I would imagine hard to breathe.

          • #7

I see pretty good actually. Breathe pretty good too besides the occasional cigar

          • Eagles4Life

Maybe. But let’s be honest, the information has been out there. Jaccpot Records didn’t just spring up in 2013. It’s been over 2 years. That was out there, as well as his Instagram. All during Andy’s tenure. You think the Eagles weren’t aware?

          • #7

What the F is a field sign??

          • Adam G

You know how to read? Or would you like me to explain which words go with which?

          • #7

My bad man. You got me

        • #7

Hell who doesn’t have a few friends that way. Is it a lapse in judgement in the position he’s in? Sure it is, but if you have no criminal record or have never been arrested the team just wanted him gone, period.

          • Eagles4Life

Exactly. And that’s where the problem is.

    • Caught Red Hernandez

exactly. Can’t even make comparisons to Hernandez b/c he had multiple incidents in college. What the heck has desean done? Be friends with the wrong people?!?

Hey, i heard Shady threw a woman off a bus and is facing charges. LETS RELEASE THAT SCUMBAG TOO!!

      • Real

BTW love the name. But again, we don’t know the whole story yet, we just don’t know the extent.

        • Caught Red Hernandez

We only know one thing: The Eagles gained absolutely nothing from releasing Desean at this point.

          Thanks btw.

          • Real

I look at it as they gained one less distraction. But hey, just my opinion.

          • phillyphanlvnv

Accept an opening for a true number one receiver. Move on guys. He got cut, and is NOT coming back. Knew a move of this caliber was coming years ago when McNabb made the statement shortly after being released as far as who to throw the ball to in regards to shady djax and mac. Too many big egos drafted way too close. Always wanted Mac gone and not Djax, but it was obviously going to be Desean when they resigned Mac and Coop. You do not invest that level of salary cap to WR and expect to win jack.

      • ztom6

it’s basically this: several players have done some scumbaggy things, including possibly DeSean Jackson, but unlike the others DeSean has made the mistake about rubbing the wrong people the wrong way behind closed doors.

    • Token

Dude, shouting the N word is on a slightly different level then possible gang affiliations in addition to throwing gang signs on the field.

      • anon

        yeah. did vs possibly done.

      • Eagles4Life

Lol he was just shouting? That’s all? The video indicated otherwise. That’s a fact. How about you show me all the gang signs. Do you know that people put their hands up all the time in ways that can be construed as “gang signs.” Show me something other than speculation about his affiliation and then you’ll have some ethos.

        • Token

Ugh. Not gonna go down this road.

          • Eagles4Life

Highly suggest you don’t. Your conjecture will only get you so far.

          • Mr. Magee

            Smart

          • Richard Colton

remember the creeps and race-baiters who came out of the woodwork after the Cooper thing? Yeah. Going to have to deal with these people for a few days.

        • phillyphanlvnv

Black man here that says you sir are a tool. One thing Aaron Hernandez taught the NFL very well is that your associations will eventually play a part in what you WILL become. This kid was NEVER EVER EVER going to the hall of fame, let alone, no man woman or child could honestly say he would win us a Superbowl. Not after watching him get man handled by Keenan F’n Lewis.

          • anon

you think any receiver on our roster would do better?

          • Eagles4Life

Lol ooooh, you called me a tool. I was expecting something better, like fucktard. Aaron Hernandez was at the CENTER of all allegations from his prior to his Florida days and throughout his time in New England. Since you are not a tool, sir, you tell me how these situations are the same.

As for your Keenan Lewis bs, watch the tape. Your claims have already been debunked.

          • Uncle Wonder

Black men say tool? Hernandez’ associations werent the prob…he was the prob…his friends parents were prolly like “i wish you would stop hanging out w tht hernandez boy…he’s trouble”

          • phillyphanlvnv

As i said, this kid was never going to the Hall. Why is there all this venom for the team? 3 out of 6 years were probowl years, but the other 3 were wasted seasons. This is not a 10 td catch a season reciever, he hasnt been ANY kind of weapon to speak of in the return game, and the kid is one good hit away from his career being nothing.

          • Uncle Wonder

What does him goin to the HOF have to do w anything? Does that make him less of a weapon today? it sounds like youre trying to justify it after the fact…how many probowl seasons do the rest of the receivers on the team have combined? that isnt relevant either honestly but the kid put up numbers and there is no reason to believe he wldnt hv continued to do so…now we hv a question mark. im gonna watch the games and hope they do well just like every year…i just dont like the move.

        • #7

I’m still trying to get someone on here who says “he was throwing up gang signs” to tell me what signs and gang he’s “representing”.

Still no answer. I know I have no idea and apparently if he was not a person on here can say what sign(s) he threw up. That accusation should be thrown out of the window IMO, but it won’t for obvious reasons. Let’s just be honest. People affiliate Blacks and Gangs together even though there are gangs of all races. Not fair, but that’s how it is unfortunately.

          • Andy124

Did you not read the nj.com article?

          • Eagles4Life

Do you not understand how many hand signs there are in the world and that not every single one is gang related. For instance, my fraternity hand sign is the same as the ones Bloods throw up. Am I a Blood? No. C’mon man, smarten up.

          • Mr. Magee

I suggest your fraternity get a new hand sign

          • Eagles4Life

            No.

          • Adam G

Well except he was throwing up crip signs. You know, the C for crip.

          • Eagles4Life

Justin Bieber throws signs up all the time too, let’s bring him in for gang prevention questioning lol.

          • Adam G

He does? You sure about that? I’m a huge belieber and I’ve never seen that.

          • anon
          • Adam G

Yes, I recognize those gang signs. That’s the sign for the Boys who look like Lesbians gang.

          • Andy124

I think we’d all be in favor of that. Let the questioning last a couple decades.

          • phillyphanlvnv

Its all a matter of perspective and location. This kid DOES run with crips on a daily. His premier artist is a KNOWN crip gang member. His geographical location as far as where his adolesence was spent suggest he is not throwing up a C for College.

          • Eagles4Life

And yet, everyone that has known him his whole life knows he isn’t a Crip. Unfathomable.

          • Andy124

If you’re going to tell someone to smarten up, it would help if you were smart enough to interpret their post correctly first.

Read #7′s post. Based on that and a couple other posts, he clearly hasn’t had time to read that article yet. His question is clearly answered in that article.

What you’re doing is disputing the claims made by that detective and that article, which is not what #7 questioned. It’s a fair point, but it’s not on topic at all.

          • Eagles4Life

I wasn’t concerned with what #7 was looking for. You pointed him to the article as if it cleared up all questions of proof with signs and affiliations and it doesn’t.

          • Andy124

Further diminishing the appropriateness of you telling anyone to “smarten up”.

          • Eagles4Life

Lol get real man. Let’s not act like your other comments on here don’t coincide with that theory as well. Just because I clicked reply on one doesn’t mean I wasn’t trying to address the others.

          • Andy124

My other comments where I advocated not rushing to any conclusions?

          • Eagles4Life

My bad, man. I think there was another Andy that was ticking me off on here. Takes a man to apologize. No hard feelings lol.

          • Andy124

But it’s such an uncommon name. :)

          • Eagles4Life

Absolutely. What “grinds my gears” is the fact that people so readily make the leap. That’s like me saying Kelce is racist because he was hanging with Riley Cooper when he said the nword. NO SENSE lol.

          • #7

            ZING

          • phillyphanlvnv

Read the articles and majority of them have hyperlinks to other articles WITH pictures. Dude was repping Rollin 60′s harder than Snoop Dogg. ANYONE in LA or even LV knows all too well the reputation of the Rollin 60′s. So while the kid can say all he wants to that he is not a member of the Crips, any young black male would know all to well to never throw up their signs, or even be too closely associated with them, because just driving down Crenshaw Blvd with one of em in your car can absolutely get you arrested or even worse, killed. And this kid ABSOLUTELY kept close enough company with them to CLAIM the gang publicaly and not face ANY consequences for doing so. This kid ABSOLUTELY had a known gang member signed to his record label. Jaccpot Records… CC and not CK as to show allegience to said gang. Jackson can do all he wants to try and seperate himself from these claims in the media, but any black male who has spent any significant portion of his life in a west coast city; ie LA Seatac, SF, Portland, Vegas… know just how full of sh*t this kid is, and is doing everything he can and ultimately MUST do to keep his prospects of future employment open. Of course Jackson would never phbl8caly claim Crips.. what fool would knowing you are risking millions and millions of dollars. If a record company came to snoop with an offer for 100 million dollars, but told him he .ust first publicaly denounce the Crips and deny ANY involvement EVER, Snoop would be in front of the first camera he could find saying how all of his old raps were lies.

          • Real

It wasn’t me, but to clarify, apparently it was Crip signs, and it was in the form of a letter “C”

          • #7

LOL cmon man. People throwing hand signs up of all colors. They wanted him gone and this was their way. Let’s smear his name while we’re at it

    • DoctorRick

I think we’ll find out there’s more to it.
Time will help sort things out and I hope he lands well.

  • Token

Maybe, just maybe the Eagles released Jackson because Chip doesnt think hes a great player or great fit or great locker room guy? This gang stuff could just be the last straw in this thing. WIP is talking about how he would have guys visiting the NovaCare complex. Practice issues. Work ethic issues.

    • cliff henny

all the dirty laundry will come out now

      • Token

Yea its starting to. I never heard about the police stop not long after he signed the contract. Had guns and drugs in the car apparently? Reid flipped on him from what they are saying.

        • Jerry Pomroy

I actually remember there being whispers about marijuana and Andy squashing it before it got legs.

      • DoctorRick

        And what he said.

      • Bukester

Yep. Now the Eagles have a vested interest in justifying this move and unfortunately, Jackson will suffer for it. Not saying they should smear him, but there must be a good reason or the Birds look stupid. My gut feeling is – this is the first mistake of this front office.

        • Mr. Magee

That would not exactly be classy. Let’s hope they eagles play it like they did with Chris Carter and say nothing (besides, actions speak louder than words).

    • Real

Exactly, the risk reward was not worth it for the Eagles.

      • Adam G

Yes but they had ZERO reason to release him now instead of waiting til the draft or after it unless it wasn’t money related.

        • Token

Why keep him around if you dont like his influence on the team? What good does that do for the team or Jackson? I dont get your reasoning. They werent able to trade him.

          • anon

yeah but dumping him and letting his reputation get smeared when he’s got no criminal record is a bad look.

          • Real

Again. We don’t know the full story yet.

          • #7

            Exactly.

          • Adam G

My point is that if this was about money only, they would’ve held onto him to try to get a trade during the draft.

          • anon

Not after the story just came out.

          • Token

But they tried, for months. Why would that change? Especially after all these stories. It was over. Jig was up. Time to move on.

          • Adam G

Come on. Teams aren’t dumb. There’s no reason for interested teams to show their cards right away. Everybody knows there is posturing going on. Don’t play dumb to support your point.

          • Mr. Magee

            Doesn’t look like anyone’s playing dumb…
Including the other NFL teams – rumors were swirling. Eagles would have had to put them to rest in order to pull off a trade

          • Mr. Magee

They could have made a show attempt at restructuring his contract… might have been worth it, but the end result would have been the same

          • Jerry Pomroy

WTF were they supposed to do? Keep him and defend him only to run the risk of getting burned much worse? Trade him and have this come out and ruin their rep with any other team going into draft & for the next 5-10yrs? The Eagles aren’t just a team. They’re a brand, a multi million/billion $$ business.

          • common sense

how would keeping him until the draft influence the team at all? He has zero contact with any people on the team this entire off season and i highly doubt he shows up to volunteer workouts or training camp.

    • #7

      82 catches

      1,332 yds 9TDs.

Made Foles and Vick look good. Open up things for #25, #10, and #14.

      Gone for nothing.

You like that? Of course you do! You’re Token lol, the village idiot, fake ass wanna be scout.

      • Javi Echie

you just went in on him but wha u gotta understand is that chip don’t need great receivers for his offense to flourish son. its a offense predicated on that run that opens up the receivers so basically it was #25 that opened it up for everybody else. chip had one 1000 yard receiver while at Oregon and he still put up numbers so lets be easywith the talk that desean is a god that cant be replaced. don’t get it twisted im a fan of him but we gon be good without him

        • Caught Red Hernandez

I’m tired of this “Chip doesn’t need great recievers” crap.

If thats the case how come we never saw Damarius Johnson out there lighting it up?!

This is the NFL, not college. TALENT wins games not SCHEME

          • anon

Why we spent the whole year trying to find ways to beat man coverage.

          • Javi Echie

oh yea except for the fact that chip won 10 games with almost the exact same roster andy won 4 games with the year before so yea scheme got a lot to do with it

          • Caught Red Hernandez

there are a lot more factors than scheme, simpleton.

For one, players gave up on the 2011 season midway

          • Guest

Kind of like Desean did for two years

          • #7

Umm HEALTH has everything to do with it. Our entire line was injured in 2012 except Mathis.

          • Andy124

And a huge upgrade at the QB position.

          • Javi Echie

all I’m sayin is that desean did not make the offense go that was shady and yea its gon be hard to replace his production right away but he is replaceable and I got much love for desean but he isn’t the make or break for this offense

          • #7

Well I hope that you’re prepared for a let down. People on here already have Foles in the HOF already. Should be no problem for him to lose his #1 WR/gamebreaker/has a part of making this “scheme” you talk so strongly about work, right? DeSean may be a “part” of the scheme, but he is a MAJOR part

          • Javi Echie

yea I’m prepared for a let down of going from the #2 offense in the NFL to #5 yea im good with that.

          • #7

Hope you’re right. NFL seasons are different every year…

          • Javi Echie

honestly my dude I’m juss tryna be as optimistic as possible, like I sed I got luv for djax but we gotta be positive at this point that’s all we can do.

          • #7

            Nothing wrong with that

      • Token

In the same offense that made Riley Cooper look like a NFL starting WR. What were your thoughts on Cooper before this year?

I know everyone wants to throw out this years production. But fact is we dont know how to put that into context yet. Someone else may very well come in and do that in this system.

I look at the whole story. A guy who had 3 not to great years in a row before 2013. A guy who in big games generally gets shut out. In tough situations can become a whiner if things arent going his way on the field.

The open up everything theory is such a myth. Always has been.

And thats not even including this supposed off the field and locker room stuff. I can see why they moved on is all im saying.

        • #7

“What were your thoughts on Cooper before this year?”

I said Cooper would break out this year….you killed me for that and said I was stupid.

Then we all turned on Cooper and said he couldn’t play, and NOW you think Cooper is great after the he started producing a little bit.

The point is, I beat you to it, the scholar, executive, Token. Of course, you will not remember me saying that I was fine with him starting and that I thought Maclin was soft and the loss would not be great.

I can read your mind Token

    • Mr. Magee

Yes but would not explain the eagles releasing him outright…

  • oreofestar

Please Oakland give him a ton of money I do not want him in the NFC

    • Token

Why are you scared of him?

      • anon

        have.you.seen.our.secondary?

        • Token

Have you seen some of the secondaries that have shut down Jackson?

Eh, people are emotional right now.

        • Jerry Pomroy

Jam his ass at the line continually and physically. Done. Threat neutralized.

          • #7

That’s all of the other WRs on the roster too

      • oreofestar

        lol yes

    • DoctorRick

      What he said.

  • larryv

Andy Reid approved Desean new contract with full knowledge of his possible gang affiliation! My question is could Joe Banner have been let go because he didn’t approve of this contract and Lurie backed Andy!

  • Andy

    No!

  • oreofestar

This move will say a lot about the Chip Kelly era it will either be huge mistake or if a player like ODB balls out it will show that any player is expandable and Chip should be trusted obviously I am not happy my favorite player is gone especially for nothing but at this point I am just going to wait and see and hope for the best

  • DharmaBum

Jeff McLane is reporting that the Eagles have been shopping him since March 1st, but ultimately didn’t feel comfortable trying to deal him to some team that doesn’t know the whole story about him.

    • anon

bullshit cant trade him after the story came out so cutting him. why didn’t they cut him before the story came out? they knew it was coming.

  • Cameiros

Bizarro-world Eagles to go along with the rest of Philly sports teams.

If it was the character issue all along why did they wait all this time to release DJax?
You believe someone is a detriment to the team…and the morals of the city(?)…you cut him day one, right?
    I mean, if you’re a high character organization…

This smells like some kind of misdirection. And as far as Kelce’s tweet, wasn’t he along with Cooper at the country concert where Cooper spilled the beans?

Tell you the truth I’d rather get rid of Kelce and Cooper.

The countdown to the end of the Chip Kelly reign begins now.

    • Will

This might have been Lurie not wanting any association or affiliation that might hurt the Eagles Organization….

    • Bukester

What? Leave Kelce out of it dude.

      • Cameiros

Thanks for the advice Buk…but stuff it.

  • Uncle Wonder

Welp…this is gonna be the 1st 2000 comment article I have seen on here.

    • cliff henny

nawh, johnny geagle’s taken to twitter, 1500 though

  • cliff henny

20/20 hindsite, guess Maclin knew last night. no wonder he was seeing dollar signs

    • Uncle Wonder

Maclin just needs to worry about his bad knees and stone hands

      • Caught Red Hernandez

        and fumbling issues.

        • anon

          self tackling issues

  • Uncle Wonder

This could be a LT money move…they are taking a major weapon from Foles in hopes that it will hurt his production enough to extend him at a discounted rate. How devious is that?

    • phillyphanlvnv

Quite a theory, but definitely not one that can be overlooked. Eagles have in the past, held back certain players from producing at their max to avoid the renegotiation nightmare that follows a tremendous season of play. End of the day, i look at it as a gamble. The Eagles must have felt that the gamble of bringing back Desean after all the offseason noise far outweighed what production they felt he would be capable of. People seem to forget that majority of Jacksons “numbers” came when Vick was throwing it to just him and giving Cooper maybe one or 2 catches a game.

  • Will

DeSean is gone move on….not crazy about it or zero compensation but I understand the principle of it. The Eagles may well have given DeSean a chance to review his life, who he spends his free time with. I can’t help of think of Chris Carter when he was cut out of the blue for no apparent reason. Hopefully DeSean does the same and gets with his Life Coach…

    • cliff henny

really? Jax is off eagles, jersey already in goodwill pile.

    • Uncle Wonder

lol, can we mourn please? the season doesnt start for 5.5 mo

      • Will

lol…yeah but why cry or mourn this might save DeSean from a tragic end…

    • Uncle Wonder

and CC was a drug addict…DeSean just still likes to keep the ppl he grew up w in this circle.

      • Will

Look this is serious enough the Eagles dropped him like a hot potato…granted the Eagles acted now instead of waiting for him to get jammed up…just a matter of time …give him enough rope to go hang himself….If DeSean keeps hanging out with thugs being a millionaire it will all crash just a matter of time…starting a rapp label was not the best choice to earn income…he could of done anything….but the culture of the rapp world isn’t the Eagle’s culture plain and simple….

  • Uncle Wonder

This offseason is < 2mo old and we have already seen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly…i just wanna rewind to when Boykin picked off Orton and hold hands and sing Kumbaya…my internal organs cant deal.

  • Uncle Wonder

I imagine the CBs of the NFC East are breathing a sigh of relief

    • Jerry Pomroy

DRC will be smiling every Sunday twice this year knowing he won’t have to do any tackling, because Maclin will do it for him…lol.

      I kid, I kid.

  • Badger Fan

LOL…If you release a player because he has violent gang member associations and violent gang activities, then you are going to end up releasing 99% of the black NFL players.

    • Token

No. Not really. Thats pretty racist really.

      • Badger Fan

        Oh sorry…98% then okay…LOL..

        • Token

Get this guy out of here.

    • phillyphanlvnv

Some POS you are for your blatent and racial generalization.

    • cliff henny

      damn dude…just wrong.

      • Brian

Dude? Don’t waste that friendly word on a piece of shit like him.

      • Andy124

What’s everybody so upset about? He’s only off by 1%

        Gang: a group of persons working together; squad;

Therefore, every NFL team is a gang, football is a gang related activity, and it is most definitely violent. So 100% of black (and white and plaid) NFL players are violent gang members. Except Nnamdi. He was never, ever violent.

    • Brian

      The KKK has arrived.

      • cliff henny

why espn went to facebook, tried to slow this garbage down.

    • Uncle Wonder

      SMH…true colors comin out

      • Badger Fan

And which gang colors are you talkin’ about there Uncle..LOL..

        • Brian

I loved reading your past comments. You just love attention, racist. Enjoy your ten minutes…

        • Uncle Wonder

lol, shame on me for takin the bait

    • #7

LOL you f’in bigot and eff you

  • cliff henny

schefter is saying it’s up to 6 teams already. Lurie, you are an idiot. NFL is as cut-throat of a business as it gets. you can fore-warn, give idea why, but it’s up to other teams to investigate. must have read Eagles like a cheap book. end up releasing for nothing cause you want to stay on other owner’s good side, Eagles got played, hard.

    • Token

Like I said a long while ago. If Jacksons contract wasnt getting reworked this year, you should assume hes gone. I thought itd be next offseason. But all this other stuff put them over the edge. This is a football move first. People are losing track of that in all the other mess. Thats the stuff that put them over the edge to just end this ASAP.

      • cliff henny

sounds like teams knew eagles and jax had some off-field issues, then with contract, just waited good-guy Lurie out. saw no need to even toss a sproles like pick deal. ridiculous how badly FO got played.

        • Token

Guess we will see. If he ends up getting 10.5 million a year then Id say you could be right. I dont know that any team wants him for that price tag.

          • cliff henny

guess I figured Jax would realize he wasn’t getting 10m once he got traded, so that would go hand in hand with new contract. but, I do see your point.

      • Uncle Wonder

It cant be a football move first…its counterintuitive to move your best receiver (by far) and say you made the unit better…this is based on projection if anything.

        • Token

Again, I dont think theres context enough to say whats great in this offense. Cooper was a different player in this system. Hell, after Foles came in I think Cooper was actually more productive that Jackson wasnt he? I dont believe Jackson was the end all be all. Not close. The only thing that sucks out of all of this was they couldnt get anything at all in return.

          • Uncle Wonder

youre right…not enuf context cuz we just finished yr one…i guess we will see. we had a known quantity who put up numbers in multiple systems and now we will hv to hope someone steps into tht spot…i foresee this bein a topic of convo all season

    • LookinAtMyGucci

Yeah, that falls on Lurie. Howie was probably confused at this too. This NJ.com report hurts, too, timing-wise.

  • DharmaBum

Former GM Mark Dominik is on ESPN right now echoing EXACTLY what I said about the Eagles as well as ALL TEAMS having former, as well as current FBI agents connected with the team, and that these teams know everything that goes on with a player. When things like those Instagram pics, or robbery come up, the teams use those resources to get the real info. That is just a fact. and that is what happened here.

  • Jimmy Foles

Sure are a lot of whining n1ggers in these comments LOL

    • Uncle Wonder

lets see who takes this bait

      • Jerry Pomroy

That would be me. (Bows proudly)

        • Andy124

          for shame

    • Jerry Pomroy

That wasn’t even funny and if I knew where you were I’d come and punch you in the face. You ignorant bigot!

      • Jimmy Foles

        Typical aggression from the subhuman

        • #7

          Must be high on meth

    • #7

      LOL

  • Jerry Pomroy

Is it not hypocritical to do charity work specifically against bullying, then leave the event and go hang with known gang members who thrive on instilling fear in others?

    • phillyphanlvnv

Love you comment. Crips far too often terrorize the black community, but somehow, Riley Cooper saying a naughty word is worse. Im black and i know thats a bullshit logic. All i know is a child is dead for throwing up a “rival” sign. Police arrested 2 people in connection, and one of em happens to be Djax’s friend/rapper protege. Now the facts are that Djax’s friend didnt go to prison, but the individual who was with him did. This is where the facts stop on this particular case. What one can very easily sumise however, is that Jackson hired a lawyer for both individuals, with the one not closely associated to Djax being the one to willingly take the fall to recieve a lighter sentance and ensure that Djax guy doesnt spend anytime in jail for it. Most likely some kind of financial arraingment was made so that he would recieve payment and a lighter sentance for cooperating. One must only look at the sentance handed out for further proof. ANY known gang member getting only 15 to life for a murder in and of itself raises some eyebrows. More like an aggrivated manslaughter charge is what it got negotiated to. Then you add in a 2nd murder that happened at a party in LA at a business owned by a relative or known associate of Jacksons. Too too many red flags to continue on.

  • Uncle Wonder

Its funny…true colors are coming out. We are now several months removed from Riley Cooper’s drama, and now I keep getting “oh, that was no big deal” comments…look, its no surprise that racism doesnt bother anybody, but when you try and rationalize his behavior to compare why he wasnt jettisoned and DeSean was for whatever he did, you just make yourself sound dumb…

    • Jimmy Foles

Probably because it wasn’t a big deal to anyone other than whiny white f@ggots and n1ggers who, ironically use racial epithets near constantly when referring to whites.

      • #7

        LOL you are hilarious

    • http://boyga.com/ joolyen

I felt they should have released Cooper too. I bet there’s more to this though.

      • #7

Nah they wouldn’t release Cooper. Let’s get him some therapy and bring him back to the team after 2 weeks. That should clear up this N word incident lol

    • phillyphanlvnv

Black man perspective, racism aside, Coopers “friends didnt spend over a year in jail for a murder that he probably only beat because the other guy took the fall. Usually, when 2 black men are in a car together when one commits a murder, both men go to prison. Riley Cooper SAID something stupid. Had Copper proceeded to beating a black man silly than your point might be somewhat valid. Desean Jackson ACTIONS show him throwing up a sign that has been symbolic of the oppression that black people DO face on a daily basis is beyond disgusting. Crips have terrorized black people for many a years to the point a young black kid CANNOT even wear red OR blue in LA. Kids are literally dying EVERY DAY over a f’n color and your worried about a f’n millionaire white man sayi g N*GG3R. Some intellegence you have sir. As a young black man living on the West Coast, i know all too well of the Crips and their deilings.

      • Uncle Wonder

Smh…you dont know the first thing about my intelligence…ill leave my degrees and papers out of this though…I taught in SoCal schools…so you dont need to throw around your street cred, it means nothing to this black man…you consider a hand gesture a major action while making what someone says unimportant…you sound ridiculous…who did DeSean beat silly? lol…im not gonna continue, there is no point

      • anon

“friends didnt spend over a year in jail for a murder that he probably only beat because the other guy took the fall.” notice djax didnt bail the guy out. and innocent is innocent, but that statement says more about you than djax.

        • phillyphanlvnv

Jackson bailing dude out would have meant what exactly? Notice is doesnt say who represented the dude who got off. Innocent doesnt mean shit but that you beat your case due to a resonable doubt that you commited the crime. Your statement as well says a lot about you as well sir. If 2 people are together and one willingly admits ALL guilt, than surely the other will NEVER see a second more of jailtime. Now for a young black man who probably doesnt even have a pot to piss in, but your friend is connected to a major sports superstar, and is even signed to a record deal with said player, and he offers cash as well as a guarentee that you can possibly get your sentance down to 15 years when you are probably looking at 25 to life, what the hell are YOU gonna do? Surely there are ZERO reported facts to back up this theory, but it is not the furthest stretch of the imagination and takes only a few steps in the thought process to come to this conclusion. In fact, this is the very first though ANY reasonable person who has had ANY dealings with the law either directly or indirectly would come to. So while my OPINION is just that, you keep on bitching about the release of a superb talent but subpar performer, while i gladly cheer that the Eagles will have ZERO to do with this scumbag or his dirtbag friends.

        • Warhound

Maybe the Judge denied bail – would make sense.

      • ztom6

To be fair, Riley Cooper’s had a fair number of incidents that are less talked about, dating back to his days at Florida. The N-word thing wasn’t even the only outrageous thing he did that same day, let alone in his life. That one video just happened to overshadow an earlier video of him trying to beat the crap out of some random dude in the parking lot before the concert.

Then again the same is true of a lot of football players who act like a-holes away from the field.

  • Shiggi

Did anyone else notice that the NJ article mentioned that no one in the current FO knew about the 2nd murder that Djax was questioned about? Does that mean that Reid was covering for him? Maybe there will be a reunion in KC..

  • Amar (India)

Somewhere in Dallas, Jerry Jones is doing the Gangnam style in his Silk robe.

    • kstagg

Jerry’s kids are still going to get pummelled. And it’s not like he has a pot to piss in to let him pick up DJ, otherwise all the gang-banging would have been the pre-req to wear a blue star.

      • Amar (India)

He doesn’t have to pick up DJ. Just having DJ gone from the Eagles automatically gives the Cowgals a better chance to win NFC east.

  • Token

So does the offense change? Become more of a intermediate game? I kinda thought the offense got a bit carried away with the deep balls last year. I liked the relentless drives made up of the short and intermediate throws to be honest. Quicker routes. Still take your shots, but I wouldnt mind seeing a offense with longer drives and less 3 and outs. Sproles could really help in that regard. It would play to Foles strengths more I would think.

Also you figure 2 WRs are coming out of the draft. We kinda figured that before all this but its certain now. They go out of their way to say how deep the WR class is. Does that mean they will wait or is it a smokescreen so they can jump up for Mike Evans? Ill pretend its the latter.

You also gotta come away with a legit pass rusher that can play meaningful snaps too. Should be a real interesting draft.

    • anon

honestly, i think andy and even vick fell in love with the same thing — deep ball is there a lot but short plays are better.

    • John E. Zang

They’re one big explosive receiver away from being unstoppable. I like Benjamin to fill that role or Beckham whose average height but I think will be a sure pro bowler.

  • DharmaBum

ESPN formally reporting now — echoing McLane’s report — that the Eagles did not continue to try to trade him because they were uncomfortable trying to unload DeSean and his problems on another team

    • Uncle Wonder

So they purposely took no compensation b/c they felt like it would be wrong? smh…Eagles: Bastions of Morality

      • Andy124

Pretty cool if true. May fall in to the “Too good to be true” category though.

        • Uncle Wonder

          No…not cool at all

          • Andy124

I’d ask how so. Not sure if we’re starting from a different set of assumptions, or just disagree about what’s cool and what isn’t, but I’m out for the day. Have fun peeps.

    • #7

Damn. Eagles are the good boys of the NFL I guess. Wow..just wow

      • kstagg

And that’s a bad thing, why? I love that Kelly is keeping these “thugs” out of the locker room. You want to live like a thug, flash signs like a thug? Have at it. Just don’t play in the NFL.

        • anon

But dropping the n word gets you a long term deal? GTFOH it’s philly.

          • #7

Yep let’s send an (at the time #4 WR) to therapy.

            Let’s cut Jackson

          • 76mustang

Every player in that locker room has dropped the n word numerous times – not every member in the locker room is flashing gang signs, hanging with known gang members, and dating porn performers…NFL needs to addend their personal conduct policies to include this type of behavior to protect teams put in this exact position.

          • Warhound

Porn performers? Porn is legal, wtf?

          • phillyphanlvnv

One person hangs with and shows his alliance with the most notorious gang in the black community, and the other one said a bad word. One hangs with a person who was WITH a convicted murderer at the time of the murder, the other hangs teammates and caugbt saying something stupid when he was drunk off his ass. When someone can show md a video of Cooper pummeling a poor black, or show any kind of links to the kkk or neo nazi’s then maybe you have a point.

          • phillyphanlvnv

Suck sacks lame. One person said a naughty word, and another hangs out with, and holds up his hands in gestures as though to show alliance a gang that has been the true symbol of the black plight since we finally won our civil rights. Shows how much you REALLY care about black people. As a 28 yr old black man living on the West Coast, i can tell you all too well the terror that crips reign over the black community, not to mention the skid mark they leave on our people just with their presence. The fact that all black men are looked at as thugs has a LOT to do wjth this gang in particular. Now as a man who has made over 100k in the last year alone, i can surely tell you that the word n*gg3r does NOT hold down the black race. But gang violence has continued to ruined our once proud citizenry. Again, more dumb black people defending a black no matter how bad they act up, but want to villify a man for a word because he is white.

          • TimX

No, he was fined, apologized and reached out to his teammates and to the best of my knowledge hasnt done anything wrong since. Had a great season and resigned. Nothing ever gets better with DeSean so now he can take a big pay cut if somebody signs him.

Hopefully for his sake he’ll learn to grow up and begin to show some respect his employer, the League and himself.

        • #7

Thugs? Why is Jackson a thug? That is ludicrous. Knowing you..you probably look at the way he dresses and speaks and make judgements. I don’t know of any thug without an arrest record

          • TimX

When you pay somebody 12 mil a year you reserve the right to make judgements.

          • #7

Well just cut him and not smear his reputation on the same day you release him

          • TimX

Maybe I missed something, but I didnt see where the Eagles smeared him.

  • #7

No criminal record that I know of. Eagles cut him and get nothing in return and smear his reputation at the same time to make themselves look good.

Is this the “Gold Standard” that Lurie speaks so highly of??

    • Adam G

Or maybe, just maybe, they think he is involved with bad people and these reports are true?

      • #7

Well they need to prove it and not come with the “no comment” BS. This was irresponsible and reckless on the Eagles part IMO

        • LookinAtMyGucci

What do they need to prove? There’s a detective who’s on the record stating his ties. Does he need to commit a crime to prove he’s a bad seed? That worked out well for NE.

        • Adam G

As mentioned before they can’t, and there’s no reason to. It will all come out eventually. Especially when we see if/when he signs with another team.

          • #7

Do you not get what I’m saying though??

          • Adam G

Yes I 100% get what you are saying, I just think that you are wrong. In a large majority of cases the simplest explanation is the truth. He hangs out with gang members and flashes signs, that’s proven. You can’t deny that, so saying that is smearing is stretching the truth.

          • #7

            LOL wow ok…

          • Brian

            you’ve never been more wrong.

          • ztom6

You’re right. By allowing all these stories to fly around the Eagles are implicitly saying “yeah it was the gang thing” without actually coming out and saying it. If that’s not the case, they should could come out and say so instead of hiding behind it at DeSean’s personal expense.

Anyway, other teams are going to be making calls to Philly and KC before he winds up on a new team. The real story will leak out, sooner or later.

        • kstagg

Looks like NE got burned with the “prove it” policy with Hernandez.

        • phillyphanlvnv

Uh, Desean proved it for them with his instagram as well as his label signing an artist who is a known member to the f’n police who actually work in the city this scumbag lives. The proof is all over the web. The Eagles never said Djax ordered a hit or commited any crimes. They didnt say squat. What is reported and the FACTS that are out show a clear connection to VERY unsavory individuals. Get your head out your ass.

        • John E. Zang

So you want them to actively prosecute the guy? It’s football not the FBI. They have a draft and upcoming OTAs to worry about.

    • http://boyga.com/ joolyen

I doubt the team is eating $6 milly just off speculation.

    • Real

      How are they “smearing” him?

      • #7

Uh..he being made out to be a criminal and a gang member. Why not just say he’s not a fit with the Eagles and move on? How about TRADING HIM and get something in return?? They say that the Eagles feared “compensation” if the trade failed, but the man has never been arrested so that fear is ridiculous.

The average fan that reads the article will label him a Thug and a criminal and being black certainly does not help the cause. And not trying to make this racial people. Go to other sites and THUG is all over the comments without an arrest record.

You telling me that is fair?

        • Adam G

You do realize the Eagles haven’t said anything?

          • anon

            sometimes saying nothing says everything

          • Real

And sometimes nothing means nothing no matter how hard you try to connect invisible dots.

        • Real

Oh, so the Eagles said he was a criminal and a gang member? Show me the Eagles press release that said that? It doesn’t exist. The Eagles have said NOTHING about it. Are there Articles out there that are saying this? Yes, but they are not affiliated at all with the Eagles.

You said “They say” Who’s they? It’s all speculation and conjecture. The Eagles cut him for their own reasons, and have not released that reason why.

          • Dan

@real. Did your read the NJ.com article? The eagles didn’t leak this? Try this on buddy straight from the NJ.com article.:

“Rather, sources close to Jackson and within the Eagles’
organization say, it originally was Jackson’s off-field behavior that concerned the front office. A bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with head coach Chip Kelly were the original reasons for his fall from grace, sources told NJ.com.

And when the Eagles looked more deeply into why Jackson was missing meetings, they found that his friends were becoming a more powerful — and negative — influence in his life.”

The media doesn’t do reporting, they just regurgitate what they are told by the organization. Reporting is hard, takes resources and you can get “scooped” by someone willing to put it out there first. Plus, you need access to the Eagles for future stories. All parties know that the white working class fan base will just eat this up.

There will be no follow-up and no smoking gun. It is all about being first and having access. Pathetic. I have no idea how the media members sleep at night,

          • John E. Zang

They weren’t happy with him for quite a while. It doesn’t have anything to do with his Instagram account really. He’s not a player they wanted in their future plans. End of story. Now people will be constantly speculating why. You can choose to read it or not. He’s still a millionaire and will get another job. There’s plenty other worthy issues in the world to be upset about.

          • Real

Again buddy, no official statement. No smear. Get over it. You lost me when you turned this into a “race” thing. You are a joke.

        • phillyphanlvnv

Actually, its NJ.com that reported this. Kid deserves EVERYTHING that comes his way. Ovviously you have NEVER been terrorized by crip gang members in your life. How is it a 16 year old kid gets a gun put to his head because he had the audacity of coming out the house with a Phillies cap and a red polo? Tell me that? Now while Jackson can go on andon about not being in a gang, anyone who knows better, knows better. You hang out with em, throw up their signs, your as good as in it. Desean could get killed just as easily being around them on ANY level. Let alone have em signed to your label, visit em in jail while they face murder charges, and then be seen in pictures with said individual throwing up the same gang sign. As someone said, the hupocracy of you “charity work” being about antibullying and then you proceed to hang out with known gang members is off the f’n charts.

Somewhere in Dallas, Jerry Jones is doing the Gangnam style in his silk robe.

The Eagles (per Adam Schefter) “don’t want to trade DeSean to another team due to his issues”

    WHAT?!?!

Let’s release him for nothing instead because we don’t want to hurt other teams. Unbelievable.

    • botto

yeah and we probably shoudlnt tackle him if we play against him because it might hurt him

    • John E. Zang

I’m not totally sure on this but I think if they were to trade him and he were to get suspended for something, Philly would be on the hook for some compensation.

On a brighter note Mike EVANS will be visiting on Monday

    • anon

hope he doesn’t have any questionable friends, he sure has a lot of tattoos

      • Eagles4Life

Yeah, man…I’m fearful of gang affiliation with that guy.

      • oreofestar

I don’t care at this point a lot of guys have tattoos lol (I know you were kidding) but him and ODB are my favorites if we get one of them and find a way to get a 5th-6th for BG or Byrce then I will live

    • botto

how do we trade up for him?
what do we have thay soemone wants?

      • TimX

An all-pro guard they seem to be shopping.

  • oreofestar

Regardless of what happens I will miss Desean :( disappointing but we will live and hopefully excel Maclin and probably ODB or someone will have to carry tge load and I just have to trust they will

I expected more from Sheil on this one.

The one-sided and latently racist reporting of guilt by association is utterly disgraceful. We have known for months about the Instagram photos. Sheil, like the rest of the sports media, are just in a panic about getting “scooped” on this. There is nothing new in the NJ.com report except an alleged marijuana arrest. Big whoop. Marijuana possession doesn’t make him a thug. The same percentage of whites do it, they just are subject to the same stop & frisk policy as blacks.

They knew about most of this months ago. The Eagles are just deciding to cut him now and send out these malicious rumors as rationalization. Why hasn’t one reporter stated the other side – the Eagles didn’t think Desean was worth 10.5 million and didn’t want to pay him. They bad-mouthed him to the press knowing that reporters and their white working class fan base would eat this up. The eagles are and always have been a cheap organization. They could’ve quitely cut him a month ago, but then they be expected to actually use some of their cap money on free agents.

We don’t need another eagles press release, masquerading as “reporting.”

You make some valid points about the shadiness of this whole gangs/drugs/guns whisper campaign. I don’t agree that the Eagles are a “cheap” organization just looking to save 10 million though.

Saw a lot of guys mentioning Michael Vick and the 180 degree change in his life. We better respect his words when a guy like Vick says this:

“I think sometimes it takes a change in your life to understand really what needs to happen, and the course that needs to be set,” Vick said on SNY’s Daily News Live Tuesday, per the New York Daily News. “Maybe it’s time for a change for DeSean to help him understand the maturation process of his young NFL life and his personal life. Whatever happens, I will continue to be a great friend to him and try to help him as much as I can mentor-wise so he doesn’t have to go through any situations that may be detrimental to his life.”

Vick knows what the trouble is about, Eagles players probably know too, and Chip Kelly won’t tolerate this kind of behavior. While i respect The FO and Chip to have the balls to take a big decision like this, if the team stops doing well and goes back to mediocrity, this will come back to bite both Howie and Chip REAL HARD, and should decide their futures. This could be a turning point for both good and bad, and it could get real uglier if DeSean stays out of trouble and plays top flight football. This is a head-scratcher, but what’s done it’s done.

i agree, but one thing we all know now is that he can be stopped with physical man coverage. he’ll get behind people sometimes but we’ll see….
its not liek he will all the sudden be the darling of the locker room where ever he is, he will piss his teamates off at some point sulking around

  • botto

this is such BS. doesnt make any sense why we would now release him instead of trading him before for whatever. they must just hate the guy because there is no way a team cares about another team they might have traded him to having to deal with his issues. thats stupid.
at least we know now that Kelly would’ve never ever let the birds sign Vick when he came out of prison… no doubt

Here’s how it seems to work with Chip. If you stray from Chip’s vision you talk with him and he explains the whats and the whys. If you still want to be part of that vision, Chip works out a plan for you to get back on track, but it’s up to you to take responsibility for executing the plan. If you don’t execute that plan, for whatever reason, you’re gone. If you do execute it, you’re back in. Jeremiah Masoli and Cliff Harris, and now probably Djax, weren’t able to stick with the plan. Legarrette Blount, Kiki Alonso, and Riley Cooper were able to follow the plan.

As for the Eagles organization, I’m sure the FO explored every option before deciding that the best course of action was to take the loss now, get rid of the distraction, and move on with the business of football.
