Maclin: This Is Where I Want To Be

NFL: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

Jeremy Maclin met with reporters Saturday and reiterated what he’s been saying for months now: that he wants to stay in Philly.

“I know that everything’s gonna work out how they’re supposed to work out,” Maclin said, per CSN Philly (video embedded below). “I’ve always stated this is where I want to be, and the Eagles have stated the same thing, so we’ll continue to get on the same page with all that, and like I said, just get something done.”

Free agency begins at 4 p.m. on March 11.

We will reach a fair deal with both Maclin and Coop, extending them before they hit the FA market…can’t wait to see which WR we add in the draft, wouldn’t be surprised if we drafted two WR or a WR and a TE…regardless we won’t be seeing too many new faces on the field for our offense next year. The offensive additions we add will be young backups..probably a late round Guard, unless Howie can pluck another Barbre/Mathis out of Free agency. The WR we draft will get eased into the lineup the way we did with Ertz….one thing I think we can count on, is Chip is going to want someone who is worth a damn at returning Kicks. So one of the WR we draft, will most likely be a dangerous return man, like an Odell Beckham…ideally we add one smaller BURNER type like Odell.Landry, Brandin Cook, even a Robert Herring in a later round..I also hope we add a Big pass catcher. It can be a WR like Evans,Benjamin,Martevius,Coleman,Moncrief, Jordan Mathews, even Agile pass catching TEs like Ebron(if we are considering a pass catcher at 22, I think you have to consider him if he is still on the board)..

we have an accurate pocket passer, who will spread the ball around, get the ball to our weapons and let them make a play..so adding some young speed to an already good Corp of pass catchers is going to make Chips offense, with FOles that much more dangerous…You give Chip a stacked arsenal of diverse pass catchers, and this offense should become very difficult to try and contain? Just picture the combinations and possibilities with an arsenal like:
    Ertz
    Cooper
    Jordan Mathews
    Maclin
    Desean
    Odell Beckam Jr.

The injury to Maclin, made us pretty average in the WR speed department. It’s amazing to me, the space this offense created without having much speed at WR. ONLY players who were FAST at their position was Ertz and Desean..every other pass catcher was average to below average speed…I think it’s amazing how well an offense predicated on speed was able to work this past year. When we add more young speed, it will help further stretch defenses thin, which will result in our skill players having more room to work with. Chip was already masterful this year at creating mismatches, then isolating those mismatches with plenty of space for our guys to beat their man. Adding more speed to the offense we have in place makes us flat out scary, ESpecially, if FOles improves the way he should!

Hope we find a way to land TE’s,Fiedorowicz or Lyeria(assuming Chip thinks he can contain him)

greg cossell was being interviewed, said the WR most underrated is Moncrief. can easily see him is kelly’s offense.

      • GEAGLE

You can easily see him in chips offense? Or Cossell said that? Always liked the kid, especially since it seems he can be had in rounds 3, maybe 4..

        • cliff henny

i can, liked moncrief in 4th for awhile, seems like great value.

          • GEAGLE

Gotcha..yeah I def agree…4th would be amazing value, I’d be pretty damn pumped. Kid runs like a beast. Fast. Breaks tackles…reminds me of a poor mans Cordarrell

why are Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes still on this team?

          • GEAGLE

Because you get the best offer next Thursday..that’s the only reason I can think of :)

Your above scenario would mean the Eagles draft WR in rounds 1 & 3. I don’t love Odell Beckham as much as you do, but when you factor in K/P returns in year one, you make a pretty good case. As deep as this WR class – drafting two in the top four could easily happen.

Honestly, I don’t love OBJ more then I love like 15 other WR prospects…I just use his name as a proxy for a quality WR who also returns kicks…if you asked me to try and rank the top 20 WR right now my head would probably explode. I hAve no idea who I like more then who right now….i also have no idea what round to mock any of these WRs….I’m not married to any of the WRs…all I know is if I could have my pick it would probably be Evans…although people are starting to call Watkins the best WR prospect since AJ and Julio! I’m just not familiar enough with him yet to agree or disagree…
        ..
All I know is that with good coaching, you should be able to find serious NFL WRs in the first 3 rounds of this draft, maybe even round 4. I never care too much about offense, but i honestly can’t ever remember a WR class with so many prospects that I would be thrilled to have,,,A lot of serious talent so I think Interviews, measurements, Versatility and ST play is going to play a MAJOR part in narrowing down the eagles WR Wish list…

I’m not married to a position in the draft – and I know the Eagles aren’t either. I just know it’s going to get ugly around here when we draft Offense with the first three picks.

Assuming we handle our business in FA, I don’t care so much about the draft position..I can pretty much find a player at any position that I like in every single round..and I wouldn’t be Mad if we went offense early at all..although a RB would be a head scratcher in round 1. I prefer not drafting OL in the first round of this draft, but OT is one of the strengths of the 15-25range in this draft so I wouldn’t be completely dumbfounded by us taking a OT..most of our immediate starters are in place, but we need young talent at every backup position, so as long as they get a probowler at 22, I’ll be happy…we just had two really quality drafts..just keep drafting like that, and we will have a stacked roster within the next two years anyway, so position doesn’t matter much..
            ..
A rookie Defender will pay off more in terms of instant gratification because defenders rotate in and out. Draft an OT and he may not even play next year but the goal is to get to a stacked Niners/Seahawks type of roster anyway, so get QUALITY and the positions will work themselves out in the long run…

I think we’ll start seeing a run on LBs & WRs in rds 2 or 3. Both are deep positions in this draft (WR a bit deeper). But I have a feeling that once teams start seeing them go, they’ll start snatching them up knowing next years talent pool will be thinner to pick from at those positions.
