Eagles Wake-Up Call: Three Numbers That Matter

Eagles Cornerback Bradley Fletcher Helmet off

Welcome to another edition of Three Numbers That Matter. You should know how it works by now.

85 – The number of yards LeSean McCoy needs to average in the final two games to break Wilbert Montgomery’s franchise record for rushing yards (1,512) in a season. McCoy is currently at 1,343 going into Week 16.

"If it happens, it happens," McCoy said. "I'm sure one of these years I'll break it."

Told how many yards he needs, McCoy added: "That's a guarantee right there. Nah, I'm joking."

McCoy is going up against the 31st-ranked (Bears) and 30th-ranked (Cowboys) run defenses, per Football Outsiders. Among the 42 running backs who have at least 100 carries on the season, only DeMarco Murray (5.5) has a higher yards-per-carry than McCoy (5.0).

Meanwhile, as a receiver, McCoy needs 86 yards to set a new career-high in that category. More importantly, he's averaging 11.3 yards per catch. To put that into perspective, McCoy has never averaged better than 7.7. And Brian Westbrook's career-best in that category was 10.1.

19 - Where ESPN.com's Todd McShay has the Eagles picking in his most recent mock draft. McShay has the Birds taking Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olumu:

I don't think the Eagles are going to find the pass-rusher they're looking for at this point in the draft, so taking Ekpre-Olomu would help them fill their second-biggest need. He is a ball hawk and playmaker with very good anticipation and route-recognition skills, and he's a fluid, flexible athlete who isn't afraid to come up and support the run. Eagles coach Chip Kelly has a familiarity with Ekpre-Olomu, having coached him at Oregon. Receivers like Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews and Florida State's Kelvin Benjamin would fill a need as well, if the Eagles opt to pass on a corner.

We'll have plenty of time to talk draft in the offseason. But if we're talking need, outside linebacker, cornerback and safety are all on the list.

The Eagles have decisions to make at wide receiver, and offensive line is a possibility too.

13 - The number of pass interference penalties called on the Eagles this season. That's the most in the NFL. The defense has lost 200 yards on pass interference penalties. That's second-most in the league.

The Bears come in with a couple big targets in Alshon Jeffery (6-3, 216) and Brandon Marshall (6-4, 230). But interestingly enough, each wide receiver has only drawn one PI penalty on the season (per Football Outsiders).

This isn't a case of the Eagles having to keep up with speedy receivers on the perimeter. But Jay Cutler throws the ball up and lets his guys make plays. The Eagles' defensive backs will have to be prepared to make plays on the ball without drawing flags.

WHAT YOU MISSED

An All-22 look at the continuing education of Nick Foles.

What they're saying about the Eagles, including one writer defending Chip Kelly's fourth-down decision.

McCoy says he wants to put the offense on his back against the Bears.

Brandon Boykin continues to be sidelined with a concussion.

T-Mac on anger, edge and the good that can come from Sunday's loss.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

Elizabeth Merrill of ESPN.com looks back at the Riley Cooper situation:

But Cooper's story is about more than redemption. It's about a team with strong leadership. It's about forgiveness. It's about a young athlete who was seemingly born with everything waking up one day and realizing he was on the verge of winding up with nothing.

Chris Burke of SI.com has the Eagles 16th in his power rankings:

Again, not quite sure how to handle the Eagles. Five straight wins entering Week 15 ... and then 48 points allowed to the Vikings sans Adrian Peterson. This defense has improved greatly during the season, yet there remain questions about its ability to do the job when it matters.

  • GEAGLE

Do I have to guarentee that we aren’t taking a CB in round 1 again? Why are “experts” so dumb?

If we pick 19, we will move up to 15 and get our pass rusher, MACK TRUCK!!!

Why draft a CB, when you can draft 1 pass rusher who will make ALL YOUR CBs better? McShay does this every year, all year round, how can he be so clueless?

OLB or WR in round 1…possibly a Shede Hagemen! Nix, Dix if they are on the board

I will say that for Fans that want us to move away from Celek, unless you see us draft Sefarian Jenkins who is an explosive athlete that can block his ass off, Celek will be here next year

    • Will

Geagle guess you want a OLB…?

      • GEAGLE

Not about what I want???I want to read accurate Eagles coverage!!!!

        • Will

What position would accurate reporting fill?

          • Will

Pundits accurate? We’d have no fun….

          • ICDogg

It’s absurdly early for mock drafts. Even the last ones done by the best prognosticators are not that “accurate” in terms of predicting the actual results. At this point it’s just ridiculous. We don’t even know who is staying in school, or what the draft order is.

          • GEAGLE

Yup…impossible right now…everything changes at the senior bowl, combine

          • bentheimmigrant

It’s not that bad for those of us who don’t get much of a chance to keep up with college ball. It’s a more interesting format than “Top 50″ lists.

          • ICDogg

            Yep… they are entertaining.

          • GEAGLE

Absolutely,..heck, I’m a mock Addict, even if I know the get are worthless…
            ..
I can’t help myself, so I will still do mocks. But when picking in the 20s, this year I’m going to do a list of ten most likely names in each round that I think have the best chance to be Eagles

          • bentheimmigrant

Have you seen http://www.drafttek.com/ ? They basically put together a big board from a bunch of places, then run a script putting in team needs. You can go in, change draft order, team needs, etc, and it’ll spit out what it thinks should happen.

          • GEAGLE

Thanks man…I used to actually use it a lot last year, but honestly I forgot all about that site. THANKS!!!

          • GEAGLE

In reality, NO ONE is accurate, NO ONE…the most you can do is get like the top 7 picks right and even that is difficult…as soon as you mess up one pick, the rest of your mock gets thrown off…it’s fun to mock, but if you want to be realistic you are better off compiling a list of your teams ten most likely round 1 draft targets and a list of 10 players we won’t be drafting…you can try and mock who we will pick when we are picking #4, but when you pick in the 20s, you are foolish if you think you know who we are taking…
            ..
If you had a clue last year you knew it was either Dion or Lane. This year we will all be in the dark…

          • ICDogg

The best mockers before the draft aren’t necessarily more football knowledgeable than the other mockers, they just have better inside info on what the various teams’ front offices are thinking.

          • Adam

That’s all it is. People talk about fallers and climbers before the draft, but all it is is the mocks syncing up with the teams big boards. Guys don’t fall or rise that much.

          • BlindChow

            Except after the combine.

          • GEAGLE

OLB,WR…round 1…..there are about 30CBs slated to go in the first 3 rounds, and these dopes have the audacity to say we will takes one I n round 1? JOKE

The only way that would happen is if they think a CB is more special then everyone else…and since people can’t even decide who the top CB is, I don’t see it

There are only like 10 players that could fall in our range that I would want

    • ICDogg

He’s got the Cowboys picking 16 and the Eagles picking 19. That is not even mathematically possible since one of those two will have to win the division and won’t be picking until 21 at the earliest because they will be in the playoffs.

      http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/todd-mcshay-2014-nfl-mock-draft-1-0-a-2015604/

He’s got Mack going #8. He’s got the Giants taking CJ Mosley #11 and Dallas taking Stephon Tuitt.

      • GEAGLE

8 to who? The bills? They are replacing Byrd with Dix

Mosely could be an accurate target for the Giants…although they need help on both sides of the trenches

        • ICDogg

          Vikings.

          • GEAGLE

I guess that’s possible…but I don’t think Barr is coming off the board til 5-7, so I think Mack will fall to ATleast 11…..all the teams that people think need Barr, all have franchise QBs who née to be protected…heck I’m starting to see Mocks where Clowney falls to 7..

Hard to talk draft until combine senior bowl, but I can’t help myself :)

Yesterday I saw a mock with Jernigan FSU as a top 5 pick…wtf

          • ICDogg

He’s got Barr #7 to Tampa.

          • GEAGLE

That’s a great pick for them, Altjough people are starting to nit pick Barr…
            ….
As long as Mack doesn’t go to the giants or cowboys, I will be happy

          • ICDogg

There are some strange or at least unexpected picks in this mock. I say that only comparing it to what other pundits have said. But I didn’t expect Blake Bortles going 3rd overall, even if it is the Raiders.

          • GEAGLE

Everyone is starting to mock that kid in the top 8….in fairness, I had him as a top pick in 2015, I just didn’t expect him to come out this year…..I’m telling you, that kid will get consideration for the top pick

          • ICDogg

            Fair enough.

          • Andy124

Geez, I was hoping for Bortles in the 6th as our developmental guy if the coaches didn’t like Barkley. :)

            Kid’s a stud.

          • GEAGLE

Lol kiss that dream goodbye…dude is rising FAST, and with a good combine, senior bowl, he will be a high pick

What’s up with Teddy???is he still coming out! or staying?

          • Andy124

Yeah. That dream is dead. The new dream is just to not draft Logan Thomas… unless we project him as a dominant pass rushing OLB.

          • GEAGLE

            Meh…he doesn’t tickle my fancy

          • Andy124

How can you even form a fair opinion on him? I’ll bet you haven’t seen him rush the passer once. :)

          • BlindChow

Depends on how much he likes Texas.

          • GEAGLE

If I’m the Texans, I try to sign Cutler so I can draft cLowney

          • bentheimmigrant

I would want nothing to do with Cutler. He’s just not a winner (how’s that for an intangible?).

          • GEAGLE

I actually don’t disagree,,I put him in the Carson!Stafford category…but they have a pretty veteran team that could compete right away if they had a QB…..they are in a situation similar to the cardinals and Cheifs were last year. We saw those teams aquire veterans so they could compete right away, and now we will see them draft their future QBs…I think both KC and Arizona draft a QB this year…..I could see Texans following those teams blue print and go after a veteran QB this year, draft you future next year

          • GEAGLE

Cutler is also a pain in the ass because he is practically a package deal with Marshall. If you want to sign Cutler you prob have to trade for Marshall…..and if the bears lose Cutler, would they really want to have to deal with Marshall?

          • anon

Cutler staying in Chi, only reason chi goes back to him after mcclown.

    • Will

      Love me some Celek…TE not a need…at all…

      • GEAGLE

Yeah I don’t think we will draft one…just saying what we would have to do to move away from Celek…I think Chip values him significantly more then fans…

If we are a playoff team, I don’t expect to lose any key pieces

  • GEAGLE

I would rather trade back then take a CB in round 1

    • Will

What about a Safety? Can’t be that many good ones in this draft? We need two…

      • GEAGLE

I would love a safety, but I think only one will be picked in round 1…I guess it’s possible that Loston or Joyner can sneak into round 1 after the combine…I desperately need safety, but there isn’t a good round 1 for safeties this year

        • Will

Just no more Nate ” Business decision” Allen…

          • GEAGLE

I wouldn’t even play around with this draft…get a veteran stud in FA…because you don’t get the safety you want in the he draft, we are screwed….not a deep draft for safety

          • Richard Colton

            worst nickname in sports

    • Scott J

First 3 picks should be OLB (pass rusher), corner, safety. We should take the best available in no particular order.

      • Broadcasting Wisdom

So the best player available at one of 3 positions… don’t think that’s Howie’s strategy anymore. It’s Best Player Available period. Don’t be surprised to see an OT, OG, WR, or D-lineman in the first couple rounds. Everything, except hopefully tight end, is in play.

        • Richard Colton

Feel the same way you do. The team is (obviously) much better today than it was 12 months ago. But since we aren’t talking about QB in round one anymore, there isn’t a position to mortgage the draft for, or just a few positions to target.

The thing I most want from round one is an impact starter. Now if it happens to be an OLB, i’ll be 2X as happy. Wouldn’t cry about WR/O-Line/S either. My only nightmare scenario at this point is 2008 redux. We trade down to take a bench guy who never pans out, and Dallas uses our pick to grab a quality OLB.

          • GEAGLE

Ultimately I agree..get me a legit round 1impact talent that pans out, position be damned…but in order for that to happen, you have to handle business and plug all your holes in free agency…
            ..
At the very least you need a “sopoaga” at every position..A guy you can start for a year if need be..then if the player you draft at his position is ready to take over sooner then we think, that’s just gravy…
            ..
We don’t have many of these glaring holes, but at the end of FA, you should have a team in place you are comfortable going to war with…then you can go BPA and just let the chips fall where they may. Howie GETS IT! his passed mistakes weren’t in vain

      • Adam

We should address one of those secondary spots via FA, IMO.

        • GEAGLE

The BIGGEST mistake we can get is to not adress safety in FA, mind go into this weak safety draft class chasing the position….I BELIEVE we are smarter then that, so I believe a safety will be signed….not signing one is literally one of the biggest mistakes we could make this offseason

    • nicksaenz1

Kelvin Benjamin, a dude I think will be awesome in time, is getting all kinds of love after the last two games. He makes big play catches and makes them in traffic, but he drops some easy ones, man. I’d love him on our team, but not in the 1st.

      • GEAGLE

I wouldn’t mind him…but this is a good draft for WRs..deep, a lot of WRs I like…find the one who lives for this game and has the highest football IQ, and coach him up…

        • nicksaenz1

I hear ya, but we need a guy who can make the catches in traffic. Cooper manning the outside with DJax on the other side, but mixing it in the slot/backfield, and Benjamin and Ertz in the middle, that’s nasty. Especially if we bring Self Tacklin’ back.

          • GEAGLE

I would actually be kind of surprised of we don’t add a WR in the first 3 rounds

          • nicksaenz1

As would I. Think we do, just a matter of who and which round.

  • Adam

Knew it was inevitable.. a Riley Cooper redemption story. Ugh.

    • nicksaenz1

      Didn’t take long, either.

      • Adam

Let’s do one for Plax for his foot wound healing while we’re at it.

        • nicksaenz1

How about a Donte Stallworth redemption story? What’s the family doing with that money? How reflective were those 30 days? Is he doing well in AA?

          • G_WallyHunter

            Ray Lewis?
Oh right, that one was in February
What about a new one? now that he is retired?
Would be a great piece for ESPN

          • nicksaenz1

I almost included Ray Lewis but decided against it. Too easy.

        • theycallmerob

Heard it changed his life. Went on to massage school, opened up his own business. Specializes in pedicures

        • Richard Colton

His biggest crime was wearing sweatpants in a club. Did he go through a 12 step program to fix that?

          • Adam

You know you’re big time when they let you in a club with sweatpants. Based on all the strip clubs I’ve attempted to enter I am indeed NOT big time.

      • G_WallyHunter

haha they wanted to make sure they did it as soon as possible before the majority of readers forgot about what Riley said..

  • GEAGLE

I’m really hoping we will see one of those QB/OT feeding frenzies in the top 13 this year because that will push a stud at a serious need down to our range

    • Roasty

I think there will be a good chance at QB run considering some of the bottom teams but I still feel like we won’t get that OLB like we really need. I like the Ifo pick if he is there.

      • GEAGLE

If we end up taking Ifo, I won’t complain because I like the kid and I believe in him…but I just don’t believe in drafting CBs n round 1, unless you see a sure shot REVIS type..I don’t believe in it. They can’t play as rookies….and they have little impact on a defense other then just guarding their man..

Other positions like OLB, can make ALL your CBs better, so there is much more value adding a supreme talent at other positions then CB..
        ..
Also, this is a very deep draft for CBs..there are ATleast 30 slated to go in the first 3 rounds…you can get way more value in round 1 then a CB who might be marginally better then the one you find in the next round…..rather trade back instead of taking a CB

        • Roasty

Didn’t know too much about how many corners are coming out, I just know it is a pressing need, the kid is impressive and I don’t think you are going to get that home run OLB 19th or later. On another note, I don’t think Buffalo is going to hold onto Byrd………

    • cliff henny

was looking at a bunch of mock drafts, your boy mack was often out of the top10. him and Mike Evans would be 2 guys eagles should seriously consider if they fall within 5-7 spots, not overly expensive to go get.

      • GEAGLE

For Mack it’s going to be ALL about how many QBs and OTs go in the top 13…def think it’s worth trading up for 5 spots for both those players..

I’m not a fan of giving up picks, but if you can get an explosive 6’5 230lb WR to pair with Cooper, Ertz and Desean. It makes us really scary both passing and in the run game..I don’t know where to slot Evans, because I don’t even know who the first Wr to be drafted is..alot of good WRs, the Underclassmen from Fresno St Devante Adams could sneak into top 15…really can’t figure out the WR situation until Combine, senior bowl…like if we were to list the order of who the first 10 WRs drafted, we would be lucky to get two names right…
        ..
As much as I crave defense, we have a stud pocket passer so we will get a lot out of drafting WRs high…I’m hoping we land Byrd in FA, so we have the flexibility to draft a OLB and TWO WRs high!!

Just imagine what FOles could grow into if he is sorrounded with:
        Ertz
        Coop
        Desean
        Mike Evans
        Jarvis Landry
        Brad Smith
        Celek
        …..
You figure we need to replace:
Avant (although I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Chip values him enough to keep him)
Damaris we get nothing out of
        ..
Rejus I adore, can’t count on I him
        ..
        Maehl, meh

        • cliff henny

one thing about taking wr in rd 1, is there will be really nice ones available with picks 2,3 and 4. if eagles can walk with olb in rd 1, wouldnt mind seeing 2nd and 4th used on wr…if foles is going to be the man, get him weapons. FA can get safety and try and find another brad fletcher, undervalued pretty good player. corners just scare me, they take so long to develope, and see it all the time, guys suck one place, go to another and all of the sudden can play. sort of like guards too.
          .
so many ways to go…makes draft very exciting now that i’m not leveraging whole top end to get qb.

          • Andy124

Yup. BPA. It’d be pretty cool to see one of those 6’5″ studs on the Eagles though. Maybe Momah will be back in camp next year and be much better. :)

If we did go with one of those guys, I gotta think Maclin isn’t back, because I’m assuming that Cooper is.

          • GEAGLE

Whatever happened to Momah? He isn’t on our PS right? Is he just of the street? Or did we IR him?

If Maclin is having a hard time finding a home, we would do him a solid and give him a chance to prove himself…you bite the bullet and do right by him if he cant find a deal…it would go a long way for our players to see us look out for Mac…we are trying u build a family, and ask guys to give us home discounts to build something special, so we have to do right by Mac. But he won’t keep us from draftng one..he might keep us from drafting two…if Mac is back it won’t be a 3-4 year contract, it will only be one year

          • theycallmerob

cunningham and murphy are the WRs on the PS. he was cut ouright. no one has picked him up since

          • GEAGLE

Thanks guys….you would think he hasn’t given up his dream yet and spent the year working on his game..I wouldn’t mind checking out his progress this summer.
            ,,,
One thing I know for a fact to look out for, is Howie would like to find his own basketball player that is developed into a star football player. It’s one of his white whales…at some point we will see Howie get it right and find a basketball player that works out

          • nicksaenz1

That’d be sick. There’s a dude on Florida’s team that’s an outright monster. Might be too tall, though.

          • GEAGLE

I have heard Howie talk about it on multiple occasions..finding a basketball player that pans out is one of Howies goals

          • Maggie

White whale. Oregon right next to Washington state. Seattle. Starbucks. Hmmm. Am I reaching too far?

          • Adam

He’s on the street. Big body, just doesn’t have the talent I guess.

          • bentheimmigrant

Thankfully he’s big enough that oncoming cars see him just standing there.

          • Adam

            womp womp

          • GEAGLE

Right!!! And I TOTALLY agree that because of what’s available later in the draft, getting our stud OLB in round 1 is our very best case scenario…

Honestly if it were up to me:
            Sign Byrd
Sign another Brad (haven’t looked at CB names available yet)
            Coop
            Lock up Ced
            Meco (cheaper contract)
JP for 3 years(big signing bonus, so won’t count as much toward cap)
            Let Maclin,Nate,Coleman walk
Bring back Colt to lead ST with Jason Phillips

            OLB in round 1
            WR in 2
            WRS in 3
And with our 3 picks in rounds 4 and 5, take a G/T, Safety, CB

          • nicksaenz1

We control Ced for another year or two, forget the exact situation. Need to look it up.

          • GEAGLE

Good. he is important..be nice to be able to not worry about him this summer…
            ,,,,
There was this one play against the Vikings, Ced literally threw the h the center outr of the way and cracked the RB…it was such a beast move..wish I had a gif

          • theycallmerob

that is my issue with it too. You’ve seen I mock LBs and S- Joyner- only because I feel WR is deeper this year. Landry in 2nd? He looks dominant as well. just one example

          • GEAGLE

You already know I view QB,OT,OLB/DE has more important above the rest…and I like WRs available after round 1 so OLB is top on my wish list..it’s a position that can have the biggest impact on your defense

  • Sean

Ha Ha Clinton Dix out of Alabama intrigues me… Any chance he lasts til the mid-to-late 1st round?

    • GEAGLE

      Really doubt it…
      ..
The bills will give him a look in end of the top 10 to replace Byrd

There are so many teams before us that need a safety, and not a lot of safeties to be found in round 1, so I really find it hard to believe that he would be on the board when we pick. Heck we will be lucky if he gets passed Dallas or the Giants…I like the kid a lot, I just don’t realistically think we have a shot at him

      • ICDogg

McShay has the Bills taking the big OT Taylor Lewan.

        • GEAGLE

They can go so many directions:
          Weapons for EJ
          protecting EJ
Kiko’s ILB running mate CJ Mosely
          Byrds replacement
          Local pass rusher Mack

But I do expect an OT frenzy again like last year…the question will be if we see a QB feeding Frenzy, or if teams try to play it cool and wait til round 2….

    • ICDogg

McShay mocked him 14 to the Rams.

      • GEAGLE

        Bills,rams,giants,Cowboys,Browns if the lose Ward,

    • Brad

Our D will have Dix and Cox. Whooo!

  • cliff henny

some unusually and uncomfortable rooting interests this week. we’ve read how this game could be meaningless for Eagles, Bears have same sceranio. if the packers beat the steelers and lions lose to New York, Bears win or lose vs Eagles, NFC north title will be decided in week 17 matchup between Chi/GB. can trick myself into thinking i’m rooting against Dal, not for Wash, but actively rooting for NYG? not proud, path of least resistance.

    • nicksaenz1

You play to win the game. That said, as long as a division rival isn’t in playoff contention or in our way to playoff contention, you always root from them if their wins help us. My trick is not watching the game, which prevents me from having to actually cheer them on. Rather, I just check scores occasionally, and thank them for the help or curse them for their incompetence.

    • GEAGLE

Cliff…there is nothing to root for…Washington is winning this game!!!

Cousins has too much to play for, he is putting up 400 against Dallas. And his team mates will rally around him to make RG3 look bad…they played with more energy I have seem out of them in weeks on Sunday…Dallas is too fragile, they will be soo tight on Sunday! Washington will be loose and energetic…Dallas continues to implode Sunday!

      • Chris

Also read that it’s London Fletchers last home game before he retires, so he’ll be trying to get the crowd rocking. hoping for an upset here!

        • GEAGLE

          Nice!!!

      • cliff henny

Garbage defenses on the road, tough for even good qbs (romo is good, not great) to overcome. game is washington’s super bowl. benching qb is great way to get team’s attention too.
        .
be great to have bears having nothing to play for. would think it’d be tough not to have letdown, especially on the road.

        • GEAGLE

I don’t bet football, but I’m considering betting on Dallas melting down lol…
          ..
I think a lot of players resent how RG3 has acted and how he gets treated, and I think playing their ass off for Cousins is how they will try to humble him…Dallas is SOOO bad defensively. like they are worse then we were last year???they just paid Scandrick a ton of Money to SUCK..Claiborne is bad…their safeties make yours look like Dawk

  • J-Rod

Personally I’d like to see them fill the hole at safety (as witnessed in the Vikings game) in FA with my eye on Byrd. No one else in FA at S sticks out to me and I don’t think we can upgrade in the draft (Dix will be gone before we pick). I’d like to see Cooper and Maclin signed and maybe go after a slot receiver (Golden Tate?). Then I feel like we can go BPA in the draft with OLB, CB, OL or WR. Would love to see Barr fall far enough that we could move up a few spots to grab him. The other OLB that I’d would love to see as an Eagle is Trent Murphy. Dude seems like a beast pass rusher with some cover skills and can put his hand in the dirt in even fronts. I agree with GEAGLE that I wouldn’t be thrilled with a CB in the first round. I’d rather see OL or WR. I’m a PSU fan so it would be cool to see Allen Robinson in green. I think he could be a great slot receiver with RAC abilities. There are a couple other WR I like as well. Tevin Reese out of Baylor would be interesting in the slot for a later round pick. Seems like OL is deep in this draft so I’d like to see them grab one in the first three rounds for depth. NT Nix is an interesting prospect if he were to fall but I would hate to spend a first round pick on someone who would only play 50% of the snaps when we already have a solid, young DL. I’d rather find some depth for the DL later.

    • theycallmerob

If you haven’t yet, take a look at Khalil Mack OLB. Also a 1st rd prospect like Barr, but if one falls it will be Mack (Barr is probably top 5). His game against Ohio State was terrific.

If they go DB in 1st round, only player I’d like is L. Joyner from FSU. Later rd CBs I think could do well are Fuller, Gilbert, Roberson, and Jean-Baptiste

      http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2013/12/18/5222698/2014-nfl-draft-cornerback-rankings-mock-darqueze-dennard

      • GEAGLE

If we want Joyner we will have to pull the trigger in round 1…he won’t fall to us in round two

        • theycallmerob

I agree. It makes more sense the farther we fall in round 1…divisional rd maybe?

I think it was CBS, maybe Rang who had him 2nd rd (57th overall or something). Thought that was too far.

          • nicksaenz1

Yeah, that’s out of range if we’re drafting 64th in rd 2 :)

  • theycallmerob

    Good morning everyone.
I know this isn’t quite the correct forum for this, but I’ll try anyway.

I’m part of a small community group trying to help bring the violence down here in Baltimore. We’ve been running for 12 years now, and work mostly with kids and teens to build confidence, discipline, and patience through traditional eastern Martial Arts.

We just inherited an old building from the city; it will be the largest traditional dojo around once we’re done this spring [think the interior where Morpheus and Neo fought the first time in the Matrix :)]. At 4,000 sq ft, it will also double our capacity (currently full). However, everything we do is volunteer-run.

We’re trying to raise funds right now for construction. Please consider us, or pass this link on to anyone you might know.
** 501c3, so any and all donations are tax-deductible
** all money goes directly to our programs with kids or the new building. there are no paid staff.
**help provide a recreational and community center for SW baltimore, which is extremely undeveloped and lacking.
** feel free to find us on the web or youtube, #cortigers or #300menmarch to see our work

merry xmas and happy holidays to you all.
    http://corcommunity.com/Fundraiser.html

    • GEAGLE

I’ll pass this on to my boss. No promises, but good for you Rob!

Mixed martial arts is excellent for Children..as is wrestling! I think wrestling is really really good for kids. Builds so much work ethic and mental toughness. Shame wrestling programs are getting shut down

      • theycallmerob

        obliged.
I’ve been hitting up Kevin Plank (underarmour CEO) non-stop. I’m spending my winter break finishing the framing and wiring.

        • nicksaenz1

Send me an email. It’s my handle at yahoo. There’s a very remote, outside chance I can lend a hand, I’d just want to provide the person with more information if I can.

        • GEAGLE

Ill make a donation when I get home. But my boss is big time philanthroper Oscar Lasko…if I can get him to donate, it would be generous…I’ll try Rob

          • theycallmerob

you’re the man Geags. You’ll have a lifetime pass to train and spar anytime.

      • Chris

Agree – i wrestled for 8 years, we had plenty of football players, etc. on the team, they all agreed it was the toughest sport.

    • BlindChow

Why, you’re a real life Cutty from The Wire!

      • theycallmerob

I’ve yet to be charged and convicted of murder, but thanks.

        • bentheimmigrant

Does that mean you’ve been shot?

          • theycallmerob

close, but that only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades. ironically, that too……but not in bmore. even at it’s most violent, West Bmore < West Bank, mideast

        • BlindChow

          Hey, don’t sell yourself short!

        • nicksaenz1

Time’s on your side. You can make these dreams come true.

    • nicksaenz1

Great cause. Baltimore is definitely a city that needs it. I used to be a courtroom clerk in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, so I’ve seen far too much of what happens when these kids don’t get pushed in the right direction. I’ll see what I can do.

      • theycallmerob

thanks. I’ve spent far too much time in circuit court testifying; I worked in the city jail with the teens charged as adults for years. trying to hit them before the courts. kudos for your work

        • nicksaenz1

I’ve definitely seen my share charged as such. Saw far too many get the mandatory 5 for having a firearm in the commission of a crime. Interesting job, but ultimately didn’t pay me enough that I could keep it and realistically have a life, thus I moved on.

        • nicksaenz1

Donation sent. Not much, but hope it helps. Do you guys try to bring anyone in to speak? I know Ray Lewis used to do a fair amount of things like that to help keep the kids off the street.

          • theycallmerob

thanks a million. and don’t quite have that reputation yet. hard to find committed adults, which limits our work with kids. and for every 10 young guys we get off the street, only 1 or 2 are with us months later.
this summer was big with the 300 men movement. now we’re closer with city hall, hoping that stuff you mention comes. Angelos (O’s owner) is kind of a scumbag, but I did think of the Ravens.

          • nicksaenz1

Angelos isn’t kind of a scumbag. He IS a scum bag. Can’t stand him.

          • Chris

He’s the worst kind of person. As a die-hard O’s fan, I can’t stand him. the whole success/moneyball thing the last few years has actually hurt us IMO, because he now thinks he can underspend every year and keep winning. Not going to happen.

          • nicksaenz1

I used to be an O’s fan as a kid, went to games at Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards all the time. He’s the biggest reason I stopped, on top being a pitcher as kid who loved Pedro Martinez. Angelos literally ruined Baltimore baseball for me. I applaud those who have remained loyal to them despite knowing that he will never do what it takes to give his fans what they ultimately want.

          • theycallmerob

…..about says it all. well said.
As much as I root for the O’s, don’t quite have that passion. Still Philly Phorever.

          • Chris

Ah see, i’m from Baltimore originally so have always loved the O’s, but started watching football when Bmore didn’t have a team, went to Eagles as a kid and never loved another team. Can’t stand the Ravens, my GF lives in south jersey so I spend a good chunk of time in Philly as it is. Love that city

    • Adam

Sent one over. It’s not much but hope it helps! Merry Christmas bro.

      • theycallmerob

you too northern homey! I’ll tell the kids we’ve got international support. not sure if I can trade that monopoly money for lumber, but we’ll try :)

        • Maggie

There’s a good chance that any Canadian donation can be converted to US dollars, you know. Anyway, I spent several years at the front counter in Social Services. (More commonly called Welfare), I saw plenty of young kids in trouble. Most were addicted by their “parents” before they hit first grade. So many 12 or13-year-old walking dead. I can’t stand drugs in any way, shape or form. Anyway, I’ll check the website. Is there any alternate payment method?

          • theycallmerob

thanks. It’s all there on the website.
Easiest is obviously paypal and credit card (direct link), but checks and even envelopes full of cash are always welcome :)
            everything is on the site.

    • Chris

Hey Rob, donated what I could.

I also live in Baltimore (up in Hampden, hon) so let me know if you guys need any kind of volunteer help. I keep a pretty busy schedule but usually have some weeknights free and a good group of friends who love this kind of work.

Also, is that the old firehouse??? I think my buddies were trying to convince the owner of their company to move into that place. where is it located? I also studied conflict analysis and dispute resolution in school, so love backing this anti-violence stuff :)

      • theycallmerob

ha, it is! huge inside, 20 ft. ceilings…going to be a sweet dojo
904 Washington Blvd, about 2 blocks in from MLK where 95 comes in. Right near the stadiums. And I studied that for a bit, too, the MS program at U.Balt. Were you in that?
All of our contact info is on the website. Winter break is next week, so our kids classes are on pause. We’ll be working pretty much whenever folks are free. Other than that, anyone interested can come to one of the adult classes. They’re free, just another way for us to get to know people’s character. Hit up the email or # on the page.
        http://www.corcommunity.com

        and thanks for the donation!
        Eagles fans are the best

        • Chris

I will, thanks! And no, I did that for my undergrad at Salisbury

      • Justin Weaver

Hey, I’m in Hampden too! Moving to Parkville this week actually though to be closer to work.

        • Chris

Hey nice, small world! i’ve been here for a few years, love the place. Good luck with the move! I’ve considered Parkville as well, if/when i’m moving out of the “city”

          • theycallmerob

howdy to both of you from waverly

          • Chris

            fine weather out there today

    • Richard Colton

OK Rob – just sent one online. Thanks for the work you guys do – those kids absolutely need it and deserve it.

      • theycallmerob

        Much obliged.

This goes for all of you- free drinks on me if you’re ever stranded in Charm City on game day (or any other day)

        • GEAGLE

I love fells point. Big fan…

This place that has the tater tots with melted cheese and crap meat have turned me into a fells point addict. Also love that Po Donk Diner across from the big bOat looking restaurant

          • theycallmerob

Ale Mary’s for the tots, and of course, Sip & Bite!
            tots are on me.

          • GEAGLE

Ugh!!!! Love that place..next time I’m down there I’ll give you a heads up

    • EaglefaninAZ

I’d love to send a couple bucks (I have $12 in my Paypal acct.), but I didn’t see any option to donate via Paypal. Great work you’re doing.

      • theycallmerob

FYI, the big gold “donate” button is the paypal link. sorry to twist your arm!
        but thanks anyway.

        • EaglefaninAZ

Lol… I had no idea! On the way then.

    • Michael Jorden

Done. Maryland native here. Good luck.

      • theycallmerob

        Thanks Michael!

    • Justin Weaver

I’ve been reading birds 24/7 since they started last year. I never made an account to comment until now. As a current Baltimore resident (by way of Reading, PA) I love this. I’m going to share it on my Facebook and show a couple people I know in fundraising.

      • theycallmerob

Thanks, glad to have you. Hope we see you more ’round these parts.

  • nicksaenz1

Seeing #24 on the picture makes me have flashbacks of Nnamdi. Can you please change it, Sheil???

    • Chris

      thats what i thought too!!!

    • cloisterwater

Try thinking of Sheldon Brown instead to ease the pain. Works for me.

      • nicksaenz1

I tried to, but then I just got more pissed that we traded him for peanuts, plus, those Nnamdi flashbacks are like ‘Nam flashbacks, they ain’t never goin’ away.

  • GEAGLE
