Game Review: Eagles Defense Vs. Lions

NFL: Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles

Here is a position-by-position review of the Eagles’ defense after having reviewed the All-22 tape.

DEFENSIVE LINE

* This group led the charge. Joique Bell needed 23 carries to gain 69 yards (3.0 YPC). And the Lions failed to gain more than 8 yards on any single run. Cedric Thornton was outstanding, leading all defensive linemen with six tackles (per team stats) and a forced fumble, which the Eagles turned into a takeaway. Thornton helped blow up a Bell run that gained 3 in the second and was disruptive throughout.

* Fletcher Cox wins the award for most contributions that won't show up on the stat sheet. He was credited with three tackles, but was active the entire game. Cox and Bennie Logan helped blow up a Bell run for no gain in the second. And Cox burst past the opposing offensive lineman in the third, disrupting a Bell run that only picked up 1. It looked like he deflected a Matthew Stafford pass on third down in the third as well. Billy Davis appeared to be going with less of a two-gap scheme in the second half because of the conditions. That allowed Cox to fire off the ball and be disruptive on a number of occasions.

* Logan had five tackles and was really good too, especially in the first half. He stopped Theo Riddick for no gain in the second and brought Bell down for no gain later in the quarter. Excellent hustle by Logan to help bring Stafford down after a 1-yard scramble in the third. He also blocked David Akers' PAT attempt in the fourth.

* Vinny Curry was credited with a pair of tackles. He brought Bell down after a 2-yard gain in the first, stopped him for no gain in the second and combined with Brandon Graham to stuff him at the line in the third. Earlier in the season, Curry would have barely seen the field in a game like this where pass-rush wasn't much of a factor. But he played well on 30 percent of the snaps Sunday.

* Clifton Geathers played 14 snaps and had three tackles. Geathers helped blow up the run where Graham stripped Bell in the second.

* Damion Square played 12 snaps, but was not credited with a tackle.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

* These guys were very active as well. Trent Cole and Connor Barwin had six tackles apiece. Cole showed great effort bringing Bell down after a 1-yard run in the second. He fought through the block of the left tackle and got to Bell after a 2-yard run in the third. And he was probably the Eagles' most productive pass-rusher. Cole got in Stafford's face on third down on the first possession. He also batted a pass at the line of scrimmage after a Stafford fumble.

* Barwin dropped Bell for a 2-yard loss in the first. And he was tackling Bell as Graham jarred the ball loose in the second. Barwin and Logan stopped Riddick for no gain in the second. And he chased Bell down after a 1-yard run in the third. In coverage, Barwin got caught re-routing a receiver and lost track of Bell in the flat on a 14-yard completion in the third. Overall, really good game though.

* Graham spelled Cole a bit more than usual. He had a pair of tackles and a big forced fumble in the second. Detroit was at the Eagles' 10 on the drive, so the takeaway was huge.

* Casey Matthews played eight snaps but did not have a tackle.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS

* DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks flew around and combined for 18 tackles. Ryans brought Riddick down after a 1-yard run in the first. He came on a blitz and hit Stafford on third down in the second. He also broke up a fourth-down pass late in the game and nearly had an interception. There were a couple issues in coverage, most notably when he got beat by Bell on a 28-yard catch and run in the fourth, but Ryans hustled to finally make the tackle. Overall, 10 tackles to once again lead the team.

* Kendricks gave up a 23-yard completion to Brandon Pettigrew on 3rd-and-15 in the first, but played well against the run throughout. He tackled Bell after a 3-yard gain in the second. On a two-point conversion in the second, it looked like he bit on a play-fake. Kendricks got picked by a receiver in the fourth on what would have been a big catch and run by Bell, but the Lions had an ineligible man downfield. Fumble recoveries are sometimes right place/right time plays, but credit Kendricks for hustling to jump on the ball in the fourth. He had eight tackles, second on the team.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

* The conditions were obviously a factor, but this group held up well. Cary Williams saw the most action his way. He had good coverage on Kris Durham on the first play of the game. He broke up a third-down pass in the second and had excellent coverage on the tight end on a fade (two-point conversion try) in the third. Williams' best moment came in the fourth when he stuck with Johnson on a double move. Stafford underthrew the receiver badly. Williams gave up a 33-yard completion to Johnson in the first and a couple others underneath, but overall played really well.

* By my unofficial count, Bradley Fletcher was only targeted once, missing a tackle on an 8-yard WR screen to Nate Burleson. He might have been at fault for a fourth-down conversion on the Lions' lone TD drive. Couldn't tell if he or Ryans was responsible for Bell in the flat on the play.

* Brandon Boykin played 21 snaps. He stopped Bell short of a first after a completion on the first series. He had excellent coverage on the tight end downfield, breaking up a pass in the second. The safeties were occupied with the outside receivers so he had no help on the play.

* Didn't hear a lot from Nate Allen, but he dropped Bell for a 2-yard loss in the first and didn't have any glaring coverage mishaps. Patrick Chung did have a couple issues. It looked like he lost track of Burleson in the first, but Stafford overthrew the receiver. Not sure if Chung was supposed to help on Johnson on the 33-yard completion, but he cheated up to assist on a crossing route instead. Against the run, he helped blow up a Bell run that went for no gain in the first.

Not usually one for superstition, but i’m having one of these “it’s only weird if it doesnt work” things going on.

I bought a new Shady jersey and was wearing it early in the season. after being 3-5 i took it off and left it in the back of my car on the seat. Realized after we won 2 or so games that it was still there, and decided to leave it there. 5 wins in a row later, and it’s still there. DID I FIND THE KEY TO THIS WHOLE THING?!!!!

Is anyone else having any similar stories about this win streak? Needless to say, not touching that jersey.

    • G_WallyHunter

Somewhat similar. Stopped wearing my McCoy at Chiefs loss, started wearing again at Oakland win, have worn it for 3/5 wins of the streak, I will wear every sunday now

      • GEAGLE

You hit your bets Sunday didn’t you, you lucky SOB?

If you are going to bet the NFL, quit the silly Canadia way of betting! join a site Ike BETus.com and bet the USA way online…sounds like you are gettin ripped off on THe odds you are getting out in GSP country aka CANADIA

        • G_WallyHunter

if SEA won by 4 I would have had 102 off of $2. Had Eags by 8 and over 54 on that ticket, Sea busts it. NE screwed a few of my other tickets, had them by 4 and 8, stupid CLE. Didn’t win anything this week, another disappointing week lol, only 3 more weeks to try and hit something big

          • GEAGLE

            Oh gotcha…

          • G_WallyHunter

yup every week at least one game loves to bust the ticket, but whatever a few bucks a week for the entertainment and it’s well worth it

          • GEAGLE

The craziest betting is in Italy…they have video game places that are literally just gambling shops..you have all the usual pocket, blackjack games, then you can bet the REAL soccer games, but they also have this video game screen where they have the computer play a 3 minute simulated soccer game, simulated horse or dog races, and it’s sets the odd for every race or game, and you can bet on each simulated video game…it’s actually pretty popular… That’s soooo absurd. I it’s like me and you turning on madden! picking two teams! having the computer play against itself, set odds and bet money on it…pretty absurd if you ask me

          • Chris

The Madden thing, i think you’re on to something….

          • southy

At least that way you know what you’re getting into. Italy likes to rig the “real” matches.

          • GEAGLE

You can still do parlays in the USA way, were you pick like 6 teams, but up 6 bucks and win 100…if you are going to continue to bet football, spend the rest of The year comparing the odds you are getting in Canadia with what is being offered in USA…so next year you know where to get the best odds

          • EaglePete

Youre losing cause of stupid Parlays, never bet those unless its small amounts for fun haha. Wait, I have SF -3 and lost that bet by 1. I use Bovada. Only way to win betting NFL games is to pretend to be the house and go against the public. Gotta make the weird bets like cle covering over pats, everyone always plays favorites to cover, never works. Then again, neither do I in the end, I just try to make it to playoffs and then I gamble it all away. Up this season so far, gotta keep it going. Went big on Saints and Bears last 2 games and won, that never happens.

        • G_WallyHunter

lol ya I hear you, I just do it at the store because it’s convenient. I can get an account at anytime but probably will wait untill next year now. the odds are a little worse but when I compare them to bet365 they aren’t TOO bad. Government, always gotta get their cut, those bastards. Like I said tho, it’s convenient.

          • GEAGLE

Gotcha..yeah if the odds are pretty similar then not worth the hassle..but if it’s a big difference, might be worth looking into…I’m forced to use those sites because I cant get odds locally on UFC fights, which is the only thing I bet nowadays because I win so much more betting mixed martial arts then I do anything else

          • G_WallyHunter

Ya, I’m down this year on football, not by much at all tho, these next 3weeks are to try and break even. Won big tickets in week 1 and 2, nothing since. Can see why you stopped with football

    • sprawl

Yeah the last 2 times I wore my DJax jersey were at the Linc vs the Chargers and then at home when they played the Chiefs. It clearly had no impact on the broncos/NYG/DAL losses but I’m still a little afraid to wear it during a game again.

      • Chris

Yea agreed, I know it has no impact but at the same time i’d be so mad at myself if i decided to wear it this week vs. vikings and we lost haha. Maybe i’m going a little crazy

        • Ig_l

“Only crazy if it doesn’t work”

      • Maggie

Try putting jersey over the back of chair you’re sitting on. It’s worked for several weeks now, for me. Then I wear it if I go out of the house during the rest of the day.

    • http://comic-book-nerd.blogspot.com/ SJ Mitchell

I haven’t washed my Eagles hoodie in 5 weeks!! My gf is freaking out lol. I wore it to Buffalo Wild Wings where I watched the Raiders game. I was so thrilled with the victory I didn’t take it off and slept in it that night. Been sleeping in it ever since and wear it every Sunday!

      • Chris

keep it up! glad to hear i’m not the only one haha. together we can run the table

    • Shane Brown

My fiancee is a giants fan. One morning (before Oakland game) all of our mugs were in the dishwasher except for my two eagles mugs, so she drank out of one, and I told her if we win today, i am hiding every single mug except for my eagles ones and you are going to drink from it every sunday. Since the giants suck this season and she likes to see me happy, she now drinks from one every sunday by choice, and we have won every game.

      • Johnny Domino

Dude, you’ve got to turn her.
        Those mixed marriages never work.

        • Shane Brown

shes not super in to football like i am so it works out okay

    • addicted2mula

I bought an eagles lighter and lit something with it for the first kick off. Bird Gang!!

    • Richard Colton

Please lets not do this. it hurts too much – Week 1 blowout vs. Skins, I was in Albania and missed game. Sunday vs. Detroit? digging a nurse out of a snowdrift in Woodbury…missed game.

      • Chris

RC, i’m going to have to ask you to do something you’re not going to like, at least for the next few weeks….

      • GEAGLE

Colt, do we really have to “put you in the bathroom” during eagles games?

        • Richard Colton

          +1 for Bronx Tale reference

          • GEAGLE

+1 for getting the Bronx tale ref

          • EaglefaninAZ

            Awesome. :)

          • Andy124

Damn, the only thing I remember from that movie is the chick leaning over to unlock the door for him.

          • Beavis

Best part is Chazz Palmenteri locking the bar doors when the rowdy bikers come in, start effing with people and refuse to get out.
            “Now you’s can’t leave.” Brilliant.

    • EricT

Holy Crap! You broke the code! :)

    • Beavis

I have a non-Eagles green shirt with a weird bird on it. Since November I’ve worn it alone/under jersey/under fleece and they’ve won every game. I call it my Victory Eagle shirt. .

Also, I joined a bunch of guys I play hockey with and partook in the Movember facial hair gimmick. I haven’t touched the moustache/goatee since Nov. 1 and, needless to say, I still haven’t shaved. I consider this my playoff beard.

      My wife thinks I’m insane

      • Chris

She may think you’re insane, but you’re with family here.

    • Leegles

I’ve been wearing the same green shirt/green hoodie combo the past few wins — the hoodie is bright green and the shirt is more of a forest green. Seems to work!

    • Adam

I had been wearing my Kendricks jersey up to and including the Cowboys game I flew to Philly from Canada to watch. On the way out, even though I was heavily intoxicated and bummed out, I stopped in to the Pro Shop and bought a Shady jersey. Been rocking it ever since and haven’t washed it yet. I’m not messing with it.

      • Chris

DON’T TOUCH IT!!! all hail the shady jerseys

        • Brennan Hildebrandt

I have a rookie shady McCoy Jersey haven’t worn it since the giants game I got a littl carried away before I stopped wearing it and played back yard football and now it has grass stains hasn’t been washed in 6 weeks don’t forget about the bye week my apartment smells but I think it’s worth it.

    • airgreen7

I have an Eagles house flag that I just happened to take down after the NY loss(because of some predicted upcoming bad weather). Forgot to put it back up after said weather was over. Needless to say, it is still in the toolshed.

    • Sig

Always wear my Dawk jersey, and after we started getting cold iItried things like McNabb, and B West, but nothing was working. I just stopped wearing a jersey all together out of frustration. This is right about the time they started getting hot. It kills me to not wear a jersey but it’s worth it. I do still rock other eagles gear on game day, just not the jersey.

      FLY EAGLES FLY

    • Justin

I’ve been eating a Quinoa every day since the Raiders game.

      • Always Hopeful

        Ha!

    • Andy124

Every game during the winning streak, the Eagles have scored more than the opponent. Call me superstitious, but I’m convinced there’s more causation than correlation there.

      • Chris

        buzz killington!

        • Andy124

That’s not how you spell superstitious.

    • ohitsdom

My son was born 11/8, our first. The birds haven’t lost since. https://twitter.com/ohitsdom/status/407284149956132864

      • Chris

        awesome! congrats as well

  • GEAGLE

All I hear is how awesome Chip was for his in game adjustments yet no one is really praising Cool ass Billy Dee for realizing that it was impossible to two gap, and switching to shooting single gaps…
    ….
Billy and his staff coached us to be fundamentally sound early, and now you can tell they are working in the details…in September it was hard enough for our guys to make a tackle..now you see Connar getting to the ball carrier, holding him up while Brandon Graham comes in and strips the ball…our CBs don’t have that shut down ability. But they battle the crap out of WRs, and they are becoming really good at interfering with WRs hands at the last second and breaking up passes…it’s been so much fun watching this defense grow…the growth of these young plays has been amazing. Vinny Curry was the square peg in the round hole..two months later he transforms himself into a pretty valuable two gapper…

Btw, someone who’s name that wasn’t mentioned AT ALL who ii wanna give a shot out to is Clifton Gaethers. When people start doing their film review of the game they will see that Gaethers was in on a lot of plays. nice to see DEPTH like him and BG starting to find their way and make an impact. Graham had a sack against the cardinals, and follows it up with a redzone forced fumble of bell…props to Kendricks for having a nose for the ball and leading the league(tie) in fumble recoveries

Finally a philly defense this city can embrace! Finally a unit playing good enough so that fools can realize that we don’t LACK talent..we just hadn’t grown our talent until this year

    • mtn_green

Not flashy but defense are true grinders in the right place fighting harder than other teams.

      • GEAGLE

They are really coming together tremendously. The coaching has been fantastic, but I have a feeling that Demeco,Cary and Barwin have been HUGE for our defensive locker room…Hungry young talent with the right veteran leadership can make for the beginning of something special

        • Chris

Really goes to show how dysfunctional the last few years were with babin, jenkins, nnamdi and DRC. You hear rumors but as a fan it’s really tough to actually see it happening.

          • GEAGLE

Not just the dysfunctional players, but worse is we had dysfunctional coaches…it’s a NIGHTMARE to have our young players see our Dline coach disrespecting the defensive coordinator..Dysfunctional locker room is one thing, but when you have dysfunctional coaching staff, THATS ROCK BOTTOM!

        • HowboutdemIggles

Not to forget The three you just mentioned are relatively young, they’re all under 31 years old and only one will be 30 in Demeco by this time next season.

    • cliff henny

and i thought eagles would be 6-10 cause defense would give up 4 or 5 double digit 4th quarter leads in 41-38 shootout type games. really is nice to watch a game, oppenents get to the redzone and think ‘well, now the real test begins’

      • Adam

What I really loved and never expected to see was the Arizona and Detroit game, where the defense essentially kept us in the game. That’s a sign that they’ve turned the corner into a legitimate unit, IMO.

        • GEAGLE

For me it was buckling down, having the balance of games on their shoulders against Washington and Arizona, and holding strong for the win…

Most people would prefer our offense having the last possession and being the unit that closes out the game..for our young defense to already be able to do that is very encouraging

      • GEAGLE

Man, I always said that we had about 80% of the players already in place that would eventually make up a top defense! But I’d be a lying fool to tell you that I expected this. People give me props when in reality I DID NOT predict THIS…I thought we would see THIS type of defense, but I didn’t think be would start to see it until late November! we been playing some amazing defense for over two months now…I sure as hell DID NOT predict that our defense would be bailing out a Chip Kelly Offense at times in October and November.. I knew Billy was legit, and I really liked that he already had his trail and error failures at the NFL level and that I THOUGHT this would be HIS time to become the next great philly Defensive coordinator, but I damn sure didn’t expect it to manifest itself in October….

I didn’t expect this, I expected that by the end of he the season people would start to KNOW that we had the players and coaches in place already who will make up next years GREAT defense. I nk new last years young talent was seriously malnourished in terms of coaching, but I didn’t realize how Quickly good coaching could wipe away last years stench…young playes, veterans and coaches all deserve a ton of credit…Billy and his boys have even surprised it’s biggest believer…I. HOPE these coaches get the recognition they EARNED!!

        • cliff henny

i’d taken this level of play next yr at this date, figuring couple picks and a free agent or 2 helped them turn the corner. as you go out from 1 week to 1 month to 1 year, i just get more and more excited about where this team is heading.

          • GEAGLE

What’s exciting is you really get the sense that they are BUILDING something the right way…right now we aren’t being successful on the backs of old players who can decline at any minute…we have so much untapped potential on this roster at this very moment, AND our cap situation in towards the top of the league as always, while I’m sure Chip Kelly has made this an attractive destination for players league wide..and you have a GM who was learning on the job, who seems to have learned for his mistakes…he had two LIGHTS OUT drafts in a row with two completely different personel/scouting staffs. he had an amazing draft for a 4-3 defense in 2012, and his first year in a 3-4 he had an amazing draft and free agency..

When you consider the price of the contract, who Gave his new team more bang for their buck in avast years FA then Connar Barwin? Dude is jamming superstar WRs at the Line and then doing his normal job…I don’t know that you can have a better player in the Jack role then BRAMA bull Barwin! and he is just entering his prime

          • Dominik

I’ve never been as optimistic as you about our D (though you were right, as it seems), but I always loved the Barwin signing. The price was really good and he’s an awesome #2 OLB (+ a great locker room guy). We need that special #1 OLB (+ a few DBs), then this D could be really good.

      • IHD

and I thought we had an 11-win offense and a 3-win defense. Looks like we have a 10- or 11-win TEAM. I like that.

        • Maggie

          TEAM. I like that too.

    • Justin

Man, I remember last year every time our defense I thought to myself “Well, here comes a TD bomb.” This year is so refreshing.

      • jon h

        and they actually get turnovers.

  • Brian

Remember when some media folks mocked the Eagles for trading Issac Sopoaga? Hahahaha.

    • G_WallyHunter

it was Easterbrook, that idiot, were there others?

      • cliff henny

idiots? yes, seems like every single one of them is

        • G_WallyHunter

Ah yes, indeed, I just say idiot as Easterbrook, I believe, was the only idiot that mocked the Soap trade lol, probably the only one dumb enough to do it.

          • cliff henny

have to wonder how these guys got jobs as sports writers. it’s like getting trapped talking to the annoying drunk guy at a bar who knows nothing about eagles/sports

          • GEAGLE

I don’t get it…for fun I read Les Bowans article this morning in the he daily news, and I just don’t understand how any editor allows him to cover this team…His editor is better off getting one of our thoughts on recording and just write an article using someone’s opinion on this site…I interact with average fans every single day who can bring so much more to the table then Len Bowan. That HACk brings NOTHING to the table yet he is continuously allowed to go down to our coaches office and just talk senseless trash and aggrivate OUR leader at his work place? how the hell is Les a conduit to eagles fans? It drives me crazy that he has the credentials and access that he does…

I’m officially adding Les to my list of peoples I want to fight inside the UFC octagon in front of millions of people:
            Dustin Diamond
            Diddy
            Kanye west
            Les Bowan

          • Andy124

Eh, just let them stand between Hunt and Silva next time. No one will survive the crossfire from that.

          • GEAGLE

Lol what an insane heavyweight WAR that was…that was probably the first time I can ever remember being happy that a fight was ruled a draw…it would have sucked to see someone called a loser after that fight

          • Andy124

Absolutely. That was the near unanimous feeling over at mmajunkie after the fight.

If you had to pick a winner, you go with Hunt. But I think a draw is the right call.

          • GEAGLE

Yeah hunt was the one to finish stronger,,,crazy that he broke his hand in the fight….mark hunt is the toughest SOB ever..who the hell plays rope a dope against a 280lb Giant wearing 4 ounce gloves? Normal human beings don’t allow Giants to punch them in The face 4 times and then crack them with a bomb of their own….that was the 265lb version of Shogun vs. hendo and for some inexplicable reason, they had more cardio then shogun hendo and kept an insane pace of mayhem for 25 minutes….INSTANT HW classic, you know a rematch will take place at some point…
            ..
We got to see some pretty gritty fights recently
            Hunt/silva
            Gilbert vs. Diego Sanchez
Gustafson vs, Jon jones was grueling

    • GEAGLE

And then Logan starts blocking kicks in the snow lol…this is probably the biggest case of addition by subtraction that I can recall

      • Mitchell

When Logan blocked that kick, I turned to my wife and said, “Benny Fucking Logan!!!!”

        • GEAGLE

Ther first thing I thought of was Chip loves the long “levers”

        • southy

I think it’s BS you can’t return that thing for 2 pts.

    • Adam

National writers.. bunch of morons.. they look at the depth chart .. “oh my god they traded a starter for next to nothing?! I’m not even gonna look at the tape or stat sheet, send it to the printers!”

      • HowboutdemIggles

        Bleacher Report in a nutshell

    • IHD

We haven’t lost since that trade. That’s all I need to know.

  • Adam

I thought our defense was improving but average all around, but after watching those 2 jokes of a defense last night I feel much better about this unit.

    • G_WallyHunter

makes you really itch for that week 17 lol, get rid of that sour taste from week 7

      • cliff henny

eagles scoreboard will look like pinball machine

        • GEAGLE

FOles might score 50 on Dallas if he gets his hands on them after what we put him threw after the last Dallas game…They better hope we already clinched and that game has no implications for us or FOles will embarrass them…as the say, payback is a maggie

          • cliff henny

too bad kelly shuts it down. if buddy ryan had this offense, he’d gone for 80, calling timeouts under 2mins in 4th

          • Maggie

Really GEAGLE? Is that the best you can do? Weak, son, weak.

The Chicago game has been flexed to Sunday night! We’re relevant again!

    • cliff henny

sure if Dallas game means nfc east, it’ll be flexd too.

      • jon h

can it? I thought there was a rule against flexing the same team two weeks in a row, but then again, it seems like the Broncos were on every single night game during the first two months of the year.

  • Will

The Defense was outstanding the second half against Detroit …holding them to just 6 points…my 11-5 Eagles season record prediction looks like it might have a chance…especially if AP can’t go for Minnesota next week….

  • addicted2mula

BEARS VS EAGLES GAME GOT MOVED TO PRIMETIME!!

    • Token

awful. Sunday and Monday night game suck. And we could be looking at Sunday night games two weeks in a row if the Cowboys beat the Pack.

      • GEAGLE

wtf I HATE games that aren’t at 1pm on Sunday…..this BLOWS!

        • cliff henny

it’s nice for out of towners, gives us more hype.

          • GEAGLE

Really hate it…waiting til 1pm Sunday drives me crazy enough…

          • cliff henny

i just dont get csnphilly and talk radio all week. getting that hour or so on espn or nbc is fun. plus, myrtle is still nice, get my day outside. in philly, cold wet, just sitting around waiting for games, yeah, remember even 4pm were tough. basically just tried to stay sober

          • GEAGLE

Lol right…try to stay sober enough to be awake for the birds

          • EaglePete

ya not so much hype, but we know the game is on TV dont have to spend $50 at the bar on a Sunday and ruin rest of my day because well…..I cant go to the bar and NOT drink right.

        • UKEagle99

Tell me about it, mate. That’s just gone from 6pm Sunday to 1:30am Monday morning!!

  • DirtyWaters

Bears game just got flexed. Does that mean they think week 17 will be meaningless? Can you have a team on two weeks in a row? Thought they had rules about that.

    • cliff henny

maybe nfl is trying to tell us something…they know Dallas game wont be meaningfull

      • DirtyWaters

What I was thinking. Didn’t see that one coming.

  • GEAGLE

Desean just talked about how unselfish this team is…he said he remembers during the game that WR AVANT went up to Chip and said “hey coach, run the ball my way” when normally you will only hear a WR say throw the ball my way…and then Avant goes on to take out two defenders with one block so shady could have a path to the ENDZONE…..

How this college coach came somewhere so dysfunctional, clean a mess up, and turn the bad news eagles into a united group of hungry overachievers so soon is just bafflng to me…Players adore and respect our coach, he gives them confidence to run threw brick walls for each other, and he gets the most out of our best players….our players adore him and work for him…this can really Be the beginning of something special

  • CP

For Allen – wanted to bring up the play where he went for a tackle on Bell and Bell leapfrogged him…

    • EaglePete

sometimes you just have to admire a good play for what it is. No fault to Allen for that. Shady did the same on one of his runs and then also muscled through an arm tackle.

      • Mitchell

Allen had good form. You just don’t expect a back to jump over you that high lol.

    • Justin

Celek jumped over Ed Reed last season. What’s your point?

    • Spooonius

Wow! It’s great to see folks defending Nate! That just shows how big of a factor his play is in the defensive improvement this year. He has become one of our own again.

      • GEAGLE

If guys have to jump over him to get passed him, I can live with that type of safety play

        • Spooonius

I agree. Although he should have channeled his inner Chung. Then he could have pretended Bell was Sconces and knocked him out.

    • Maggie

      The one Detroit highlight.

  • GEAGLE

The snow was fun, but this week we get to see the built for speed portion of our offense..FOles,Desean,shady,Ertz and coop there it is are gonna do some serious damage on that Minesota dome turf

  • EuropeanEagle

Defensive unit of the year award: defensive line. Every week I grow more impressed with how they perform, especially against rbs. The pass rush and pass defense have to be the team’s main focus this off-season, then the defense should become real awesome to watch.

  • Clamdigger

I know I’m getting ahead of myself here, but I wonder how Chip’s assistants will do once they land HC’ing gigs down the road. It’ll be interesting to see if they run their teams similar to this.
