Making Sense Of the Eagles’ Inactives

kendricks_940_100113The following Eagles are inactive for today’s game against the Washington Redskins: QB Michael Vick, WR Damaris Johnson, CB Bradley Fletcher, safety Earl Wolff, LB Jake Knott, OT Dennis Kelly and LB Mychal Kendricks.

The good news for the Eagles is that Jason Peters is active and expected to start. He was listed as questionable with a pair of injuries (quadriceps, pectoral). If Peters has issues, Allen Barbre will step in. The Eagles also have Matt Tobin active, along with backup guard/center Julian Vandervelde. They usually go with only two backups on gameday, but because of Peters’ injury, they are going with three today.

Johnson is inactive for the first time all season. The Eagles signed Brad Smith last week, and he’ll be active. Smith or Brandon Boykin will presumably return kicks, and DeSean Jackson will handle punts.

Matt Barkley will back up Nick Foles at quarterback.

Fletcher is inactive for the second straight game. Roc Carmichael will take his place at cornerback. Patrick Chung will start for Wolff at safety.

Kendricks is out of the starting lineup for the first time all season. Najee Goode will start at inside linebacker alongside DeMeco Ryans.

Wonder if Kelly’s back still isn’t 100% or if both Barbre and Tobin are ahead of him in the eyes of the coaches.

    • Pennguino

Kelly may have fell behind because of his back. Maybe Tobin is a better guard.

      • Richard Colton

I was thinking that Penn, the versitility thing. But the Eagles typically dress two back up O-lineman, 1 T/G and one G/C. Today it’s three because of Peter’s injury. So they’re dressing an additional OT.

The only reason I’m bringing this up is because we have a major issue with age/depth on the O-line. If Kelly isn’t going to be a player, then we have a problem.

In hindsight, maybe Kelly could have been IR’d, but that roster spot would likely only have gone to somebody else’s sixth corner or LB.

First team to 40 wins? I look for the Eagles to hit RG3 more than the ‘Skins will get to Foles, and that may be the difference. 45-34 Birds to break the schneid!

  • Mr. Wu

I assume the skins are going to try to take advantage of Good today…hope he holds up

I’m here at the game with my girl and a buzz. Let’s go Birds!

    • Johnny Domino

Here’s hoping you leave with both, and a ride home.

try to take a picture when GEAGLE starts the FOles chant.

      • G_WallyHunter

I’d pay money for this, btw good use of GEAGLE’s patented FOles typo

This is probably the last game before Chip announces Foles will be the starter for the rest of the season. I’m betting Vick is healthy after the bye, and Chip won’t be able to dance around the elephant in the room any longer. Unless Foles repeats the Dallas game, the job is undoubtedly his.
