Making Sense Of the Eagles’ Inactives

The following Eagles are inactive for today’s game against the Giants: QB Nick Foles, safety Patrick Chung, RB Matthew Tucker, LB Jake Knott, OT Matt Tobin, OT Dennis Kelly and DL Damion Square.

As expected, Foles is out after suffering a concussion during last week’s loss to the Cowboys. Michael Vick will start, and Matt Barkley will back him up. James Casey is the team’s emergency QB.

Chung has been battling a shoulder injury. He gave it a go two weeks ago against the Bucs, but couldn’t make it through the game and missed last week’s loss to Dallas. Rookie Earl Wolff and Nate Allen will start at safety. Both are playing better than they were earlier in the season.

At running back, Chris Polk returns from a shoulder injury. He and Bryce Brown will back up LeSean McCoy. Polk has drawn praise from Chip Kelly for his performance on special teams.

Knott is out with a hamstring injury. Emmanuel Acho will be active for the first time as a backup inside linebacker/special-teams player.

For the Giants, defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, who played well in the first meeting, is out.
