Eagles Sign LB Acho; Release Prater

Let the Acho fans rejoice.

The Eagles announced Monday that they signed linebacker Emmanuel Acho off the Giants practice squad and released cornerback Shaun Prater.

The team will likely sign quarterback G.J. Kinne to the practice squad as well, per a source. He would be called up in the event that Nick Foles and Michael Vick are not ready for Sunday. Kinne was with the Eagles in training camp before eventually being released.

The Eagles originally acquired Acho (6-1, 240) from Cleveland in exchange for Dion Lewis back in April. The second-year linebacker had a strong showing for the Eagles this summer. He had at least a share of the lead in tackles in three of the four preseason games, including an 11-tackle performance against the Jets in the finale.

Acho made the original 53-man roster but was released shortly thereafter when the team signed linebacker Najee Goode.

“When Chip talked about the versatility of the back of the roster, we didn’t want to duplicate a lot of skills,” Howie Roseman explained at the time. “So that’s what made some of the choices at the back of the roster, maybe some guys who played well in the preseason but maybe they were duplicating the skills that some of the guys we had.”

Jake Knott left the Dallas game with a hamstring injury, which helps explain the move. And it doesn’t hurt that the Eagles are playing Acho’s  most recent employer, the Giants, this week.

The Eagles claimed Prater off waivers from Cincinnati in early September when they waived/injured Curtis Marsh.

Bush league picking guy off giants roster on Monday before a game

      There’s nothing bush league about a W.

    • Bdawkbdawk

Yea. That sounds like Chip Kelly. Innovative, super competitve, offensive Guru…..And stealer of the Giants’ super secret strategies. How can we throw more interceptions? What’s the secret to having a horrible rushing attack? How did they navigate to 0-6?

      • The Answer

Ha, I read Jake Knott injured a hammy so that seems to be the crux of the signing.

You relish negativity, why don’t you join Howard Eskin? It seems by your name/comments you aren’t an Eagles fan, just wondering who DO you like?

    • Johnny Domino

Could say the same for the Giants signing him out of camp, doubt he is the lynchpin either way.

You’re right, shoulda done it Sunday and given Shaun Huls another day with the thumb screws and water torture. Now I know why the hired an ex Navy Seal and what a “Sports Science Coordinator” really does.

Kline, and not Dennis Dixon? I’d have brought Dixon back 1st

    • Basscase

Acho at least has shown he can be competent.

Dixon is like the stale crumbs at the bottom of the cookie jar when you really want to make a cookie ice cream sandwich.

Dixon is on the Bills’ practice squad. The Eagles could sign him, but they’d have to clear room on the roster for him. You can’t move a guy from one team’s practice squad to another.

        Correct explanation!
