Sheil – can you add a column to your table listing who is the agent for each coach? From what I’ve read, that has as much to do with who gets interviewed where as anything else. Thanks and Happy New Year.

    • Johngiam

Who the agent with has soooo much to do with what coaches and players teams target!!! Very good point, and yes adding a comun would be very insightful and appreciated..

Just get me the holy trinity from the steelers family tree:
DC Horton, OC Wisenhunt, HC Arians!!!!

  • D

Are we to assume that Kelly doesn’t have any interviews scheduled? Maybe the chart needs more work.

    • John D

He can’t interview or even talk until he plays his bowl game (Thursday).

      • johnGiam

notice the Browns in typical Banner fashion havent tipped their hand? they have no scheduled visits, yet need a coach? they will swoop in as soon as the bowl is over and go hard at kelly.

        • JOhngiam

nvmd…lol didnt see they had Marrone or horton on the radar lol

  • RJ

I thought about it, I honestly don’t think Arians is gonna leave Indianapolis, given how he’s grooming Luck and how him and Pagano work together so well.

    • Johngiam

He is up the in age, I believe he will cash in an head coaching opportunity…if no t now, then never!

  • Chulo

Why not give more consideration to mccoy?

    • MRT

IMO #s from Carolina go down the higher he rose in staff. Orton is his major feat, and he was just avg. Tebow scored afew FGS a game then Tebowed his way Downfield in the final 5min. , and Manning is likely the one teaching McCoy. IMO.

  • jon h

    this is awesome.

Why don’t any of these teams give the top high school coaches a chance ? Does anyone really think they can’t do better than Buddy Ryan’s 2 sons ? If it weren’t for Buddy both would be stuck coaching in the youth leagues.

What makes any one believe that O’brien will be any more successful as a Head Coach in the NFL than the Patriots assistants who ran programs before him? Once they leave Belichick, they have shown themselves to be abject failures as skippers of NFL programs.

  • http://twitter.com/Lez215 Dutch

Why would lovie smith be omitted from these list? Kelly would be the perfect fit for the Bears.

  • Chef Lucky

I would be more than Happy to have Lovie Smith and a Big Name Offensive Coordinator. This Team needs a Defensive Head Coach who will make them formidable.

    • Wilbert M.

I live in Chicago – be careful what you ask for. Lovie makes quite a few strategic mistakes. He would also be eaten alive by the Philly fans because of his near comatose personna. But, he got a raw deal with Jerry Angelo as his GM all those years and he’s not that bad a coach. but he’s a bad fit for Philly.

The Eagles should hire Bruce Arians as the HC and Lovie Smith as the DC.

  • http://twitter.com/ScottJ610 Scott J

Did the Chiefs interview anyone else? Aren’t they suppose to interview a minority candidate?

  • Geoff

GUS BRADELY FOR 2013!!!! can you guys do a little story on him, I really think he is the right choice.

  • Erik D

Die hard Eagles fan here: I no longer want Chip Kelly as bad as I previously did. I find him to be too offense-focused and our defense is the bigger trainwreck. His offense is a little too “razzle-dazzle” for my liking…and if it means he keeps Vick around then I absolutely dispise the notion. My favorites (in order) are Jay Gruden, Mike McCoy, Doug Marrone, Gus Bradley. I feel like Jay Gruden and Mike McCoy would be excellent young coaches for the next decade! Go Eagles!

  • Erik D

My predictions for where everyone ends up:

    Chiefs- Andy Reid (official)
    Cardinals – Ray Horton
    Browns- Chip Kelly
    Bills- Lovie Smith
    Bears- Mike McCoy
    Chargers – Ken Whisenhunt
    Eagles- Jay Gruden

  • Johnny_P

It’s a travesty that Eagles aren’t even considering Mike Zimmer. Obvious need is defense.

  • Mike Donnelly

Singletary to Bears would be so much fun.

  • Mike Donnelly

Sheil please repost this table sorted by team. KC only interviewed 2 coaches ?? And Bears are now at 11 ??

  • Mike Donnelly

Add the Jags to the list and Mularkey. 6 openings and 8 HC fired in total. How about GM’s, we need this list as well. How many open GM spots ?

  • Mike Donnelly

Greg Roman early front runner for HC job in Jacksonville

  • Johngiam

Dude give me a break! You really trying to already ruin my new year with this chip Kelly crap! I just wanted one day with o chip Kelly nonsense lol.

eagles would get Bill Obrien before Cleveland does. I would love us to get Marrone.

my dream scenario is probably HC Bruce Arians, OC Ken Wisenhunt, DC Horton if he can’t get a HC job

Saban or Chip would ruin my life lol

  • Bob A

Why all the hate for Kelly before he even comes here? Because some of the talking heads were saying that you couldn’t run that offense in the pros even while the Pats and Redskins clearly have ‘read option’ as huge parts of their offense? And Foles doesn’t have to be all that mobile, none of Oregon’s QBs the last few years have been speedsters.. That’s the beauty of it, it just needs SOMEBODY to be mobile. Give Kelly enough credit to know what he can bring over and what he’ll have to leave in Oregon.

  • Graham

Arians, Wisenhunt, Horton sounds great. I’d love that too. But Wisenhunt likely wants an HC job right? same for Arians? Who knows what Horton wants either. It will be interesting to see which way Lurie goes, he assured he will be making very thorough evaluations and what not, that’s always good to hear. Let’s hope he makes the right choice on a coach that can give us half the success Reid brought… Whoever comes in know they have some serious shoes to fill lol that will be a factor in their decision probably.

  • Johngiam

No thanks! Not in the mood to tinker with assume one with nI nfl experience….running the spread option is very different then just having a few spread option wrinkles in an offense……..why do I have to be ok with chip Kelly?mwhats wrong with me wanting an nfl assistant?

  • Bob A

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, just keep an open mind that there may be guys that aren’t NFL assistants that could be good coaches. There have been any number of NFL assistants that have been bad head coaches, Crennel, McDaniel, Spagnuolo, Linehan, Raheem Morris, Whisenhunt,Shurmur, the list goes on and on. But, of course, you still have to consider that an NFL assistant COULD be a good one. Same with a college coach.

  • jOhngiam

To be honest with you, at this point I dont even care any more. Andy Reid was a great coach early on, but Andy was so terrible this year, that whoever we get will be a significant upgrade from what we saw this past year…Im just anxious to find out who the next coach will be, and what the vision is going forward. I really dont even care who they chose anymore. there is more then 1 person that can turn us around…I was really down on Howie, but i really liked what I heard from him. He isnt a football guy, but he has been around, and if he learned from mistakes, which is what he claimed then who am I to say he cant do a good job for us, I liked the past draft…Im dying to just find out who the coach is, see what Howie does in the draft/free agency, and get up to training camp to see this new coach at work…Im anxious. In typical Eagles fashion, I expect this is all just a big smoke screen, and this weekend they will swoop in and get their guy. expect press conference on Monday introducing the new headcoach
