Eagles Re-Sign S Thomas; Jarrett Gets A Workout

A couple minor notes regarding the safety position:

The Eagles re-signed rookie safety Phillip Thomas to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Frank Trotter.  Thomas, an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse, spent the offseason with the team but did not make the final cut. The Eagles are thin at safety, and on Monday night were without the services of Nate Allen (hamstring). David Sims got the start against the Saints and had a spotty outing.

Meanwhile, former Eagle Jaiquawn Jarrett got his second tryout with the Lions, according to Adam Caplan. The second-round pick out of Temple was released by the Eagles on September 11. Jarrett has also reportedly worked out for the Jets since being cut.

They are throwing crap on the wall now. Too bad nothing is sticking.

They’re on the wrong side of the wall, if that’s what they’re doing. The D giving 21 up to the Saints is nothing to be ashamed of.

I agree…BigRed is wiping the egg off his face in having to resort to calling back ‘throwaways’ in a REAL desperate situation. Who’s panicking now??

big red GOOFED ..he thought he was signing DAVE THOMAS

wonder when the media will begin to write about how bad our owner is.
Jeff Lurie is a disgrace and a national embarrassment. He lacks courage
on every level, afraid to fire Reid, afraid to say no to bringing Vick
in, afraid to over-rule Reid on Castillo. He cannot act in a crisis,
afraid to make a move while the city’s football fans suffer.

Finally!! A Phillip Thomas sighting! Can someone please tell me why he was cut before the season? He was easily the third best safety on the roster.

Tommy over at Igglesblitz.com says it was drug related. He had issues back in Syracuse with drugs and was suspended by the team I believe.

I knew about what happened at Syracuse, but were there issues when he was with the Eagles?

        • Corry

Honestly I’m not sure. A couple people asked on one of last week’s post (think it was Monday or Tuesday of last week when word came out that Nate Allen was hurt) and that’s what he came back with. No real details, just that that had played a part in them not signing him back to the practice squad even though he had looked decent during the summer.

West was far from the most embarrassing eagle on the field on monday. But i agree, this is seeing what sticks, just like all other 31 other teams. the difference is that we don’ feel confident the guys throwing the stuff against the wall cant fix it (reid/MM/bowles)

Good to see Phillip Thomas back on the practice squad. I thought he looked pretty good during the preseason. I’m hoping he’s able to keep himself clean now that he’s gotten a second chance.
