Joe McMenamin and his sidekick Sal Mannino at Center City’s Groom have spent a combined 88 years perfecting the art — er, craft — of shaving, a signature service in the two-chair shop, now relocated in the old digs of Harry’s Barbershop. Joe, who learned from old-world hands, and Sal, a 74-year-old Italian who is old-world, put you at ease with hot towels, a stupor-inducing lathering massage, and classic vanilla Pinaud aftershave. Oh, and a damn-close shave.
