Best of Philly 2008: Jewelry Design (and Re-Design)

Halloween

If Halloween, that lavish treasure trove of a jewelry store, is eccentric (have you seen the pearl brooch in the shape of a cowboy?), then owner Henri David is downright flamboyant. He answers the phone with a singsongy “Trick or treat!” He throws a Halloween party — every year for 40 years now — and invites the entire city. He’s designed jewelry for Elton John, and for crazy Stevie Nicks. The man is friends with John Waters, for Pete’s sake. But he’s also a true talent, and old-school when it comes to honest dealings and customer service. David and his staff have earned our trust — and their icon status — with quality, beautiful work. They’ll duplicate any design, clean and refurbish your grandmother’s hand-me-downs, and work with any budget to make your jewelry at least as memorable as the place it came from.
