The collections here span the world, but it’s the mummies that kids remember. For many of us, this is where we first saw dead people — and though they might be shriveled, they’re undeniably human, somebody, a guy just like you, whose stomach probably rumbled at lunchtime, and now he’s here in this glass case, and you’re staring at him, which is really creepy, because, you know, he’s been dead for, like, 5,000 years, and they pulled his brain out of his head through his nose.
