Rosenbach Museum and Library
Best of Philly 2007: Museum You've Never Been To
The Rosenbach Museum
& Library, just south of Rittenhouse Square on Delancey Place, features a collection as eclectic as brothers Philip and Abraham Rosenbach were in life. The globe-trotting collectors tastes ran from the sublime to the odd, so at their former home youll find original illustrations from Alice in Wonderland alongside James Joyces death mask. Book lovers can pore over the original handwritten manuscripts of Charles Dickens and Joseph Conrad. And be sure to set your watch to the elaborate 18th-century alabaster clock on the second floor, with a snakes tongue indicating the hour. The timepiece was made by Marie Antoinettes clockmaker.
