Best of Philly 2007: Dive Bar

Jerry's Bar

129 Laurel Street
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19123

We’re not sure when it became acceptable for “dive bars” to have jukeboxes connected to the Internet that play virtually any song you could ever want to hear, $7 cocktails, cover charges, MySpace pages, and hoity-toity brews. But you’ll find none of that at Jerry’s Bar, a weathered little smoking-and-drinking joint in a Northern Liberties alley. We’re pretty sure we’ve never seen anyone drinking any beers other than Pabst and Bud (both $2); the jukebox, when it’s working properly, is packed with music that’s usually too loud; and a shot of VO will run you just a buck.
