Royal Tavern

Like the wonderful Standard Tap in Northern Liberties, Royal has a great jukebox, local beers on tap, and thoughtful food that can be eaten with your hands. Salads and sandwiches are superb; the first is liable to feature beets, and the second could be a smoked-duck club. There are deep-fried foods, too, but in this case it's crab fritters (937 East Passyunk Avenue; 215-389-6694).
