Brasserie Perrier
Best of Philly 2002 Classic Cocktail
The Sidecar is Paris circa 1920, and the bittersweet victory of American expats toasting their liberation from Prohibition in a French salon. It's also the latest in Philadelphia's classic cocktail craze. The sidecar's got all the hard-liquor credibility of the inimitable martini (with brandy instead of gin), the citrus bite of the in-vogue mojito, and the pastel palette of a cosmopolitan. The French mix a sidecar with lemon, but Brasserie Perrier's lime version, almost a brandy margarita, is an elegant update.
2-1/2 oz. brandy
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1/2 oz. Roses Lime Juice
Dash of simple syrup (a one-to-one sugar/water mixture boiled just until it dissolves)
Combine over ice in a shaker. Shake vigorously, and strain into a cocktail glass with a sugared rim. Serves one.
